I'm in. Donated in a fundamentalist evangelical friend's name who claims 'Obama is a Muslim'. When asked for proof of this claim, he replies that 'God revealed it to him in a vision'. lulz

IronTom: I loved Pontiac. I loved Saturn also. I blame Obama and his little Biden guy that they are no longer in business. Nothing like the government taking over your business.

And if McCain would have been President, those cars would be made of solid freakin gold. You're absolutely - dead on balls - correct, aren't you?

What a brilliant idea.

A note on presidential gift-giving (I'll send you a message explaining this as well). I notice that your donation page states that federal ethics rules prohibit you from actually giving the Trans Am to Biden. That is actually not true. 5 CFR 2635.204(j) states as follows:

(j) Gifts to the President or Vice President. Because of considerations relating to the conduct of their offices, including those of protocol and etiquette, the President or the Vice President may accept any gift on his own behalf or on behalf of any family member, provided that such acceptance does not violate §2635.202(c) (1) or (2), 18 U.S.C. 201(b) or 201(c)(3), or the Constitution of the United States.

2635.202(c) (1) and (2) states that the President/VP cannot receive a gift in return for an official act or solicit/coerce the giving of a gift.

18 USC 201(b) and 201(c)(3) are anti-bribery rules, and also pertain to giving of gifts in return for favors.

The Constitution prohibits accepting foreign gifts without the approval of Congress.

Source 1: Congressional Research Service Report on Gifts to the President of the United States
Source 2: 5 CFR 2635.204

Now, actually getting him to accept the car is a different matter. Most gifts to the President or Vice-President are sent to the White House Gift Unit, where they are given to a charitable organization or non-governmental agency. Given that, you may wish to retain control over the final destination of the car itself, but nothing prevents you from presenting it as a gift to Biden himself.

IronTechV1: IronTom: How appropriate. This administration caused Pontiac to close down with all their interference. Now the old guy can only get an old one of there are enough losers to send him money for being a dork.

And here I thought it was simply because the brand had already been slowly disappearing for a decade. Crazy me.

Once again, Obama's magical time machine. He went back and designed the Pontiac Aztek.

Mrtraveler01: I didn't donate but we're pretty much a GM family.
I drive an Oldsmobile, used to drive a Saturn from 1993 (very reliable car) and my parents drive a GMC Terrain and a Buick LaCrosse.

All I've owned for many, many years are GM products. '93 Corsica (sold it at 243,000 miles), '04 Grand Am, and '05 Vibe (okay, it's a halfbreed Pontiac). Love 'em. I don't wash them shirtless in the driveway, though (nobody wants to see that, for sure), although sometimes the Grand Am does remind me of a Trans Am when I drive it.

Oh, wait, I'm distracting from the purpose here. Sorry. No, wait, I think Joe "Trans-Am" Biden would say nobody should be sorry for reminiscing about their car.

Seriously, I love the angle on this donation drive! Humor in a charity drive is always a breath of fresh air.
