You really think the president and VP (any VP or president, so settle down with the partisan talk) pay most of their own expenses?

Go away. We're having fun, and no matter how much you try to piss in the pot, it won't work.

Fluorescent Testicle: If we're going for the multiple-charity route, perhaps make it four and add in a gay rights charity? I figure it's easier to split about $20k four ways than three, and it was Biden's comments that opened the flood gates there.

(1) you must sux at math...lol
(2) Let's go all the way with it. Buy a trans-am for a disabled, lesbian medic war-vet who work with doctors without borders and won her battle with breast cancer and have Joe sign it!

Stay on point here people. This gesture is not about who Joe Biden really is, it's about who we (the internet) want to believe he is. A Trans Am driving, beer chugging, bad ass that devours debate opponents and celebrates by having anal with his wife.

/Then again, I'm heavily biased, so.

I actually like this as well. I'm afraid I do not know any really reputable gay charities. Are there any that work with adolescents?

this link says he is worth $215,000. More than you and I combined, probably.

Assuming the link is correct, yes, whereas he's also in his 60s, I'm in my 30s. I'd be willing to bet I'll have more money than that (way more because of inflation) when I'm his age. You could call it mismanagement of funds or you could call it charitable giving.

One thing you can't make a case for is his being a plutocrat and say "Whah! Whah! He can buy his own Trans Am, damn 1%er!"

Perk $10: Joe Biden will slam a Coor's Lite in your honor while ripping the sleeves off of his button-down. (Need a description) - Was thinking of, "Not really, but if there is enough interest, maybe we can convince Uncle Joe to chug a beer in your honor. Pictures to be posted all over the internet, of course."

Any more?

Perk $50- your name inscribed on a cassette of Night Ranger to be included with the vehicle (limit 10).

Is this feasible?

Well, maybe a CD. A cassette would be hard to find. And by "inscribed" I had in mind a label or something like that. I mean, this is all for fun anyway, the perks should reflect the silliness.

True. Maybe we could get a mix-tape/cassette of songs from the year the trans-am was made. Limit it to like 50?

Gotta be careful about copyright; I think we should only include purchased CDs, maybe a "greatest hits" collection of some of the artists of the time in line with the theme. The perk could be having your name included in a liner insert along with the CD?

Just remember, any cassette left in a car for over a month turns into "Best of Queen."

Hack Patooey: Hmm. Probably violates this kickstarter rule:

Prohibited uses:
No charity or cause funding.
Examples of prohibited use include raising money for the Red Cross, funding an awareness campaign, funding a scholarship, or promoting the donation of funds raised, or future profits, to a charity or cause.

It is NOT charity - it is PROTECTED POLITICAL SPEECH.

We want this to happen because we want to see what the public perception/reaction will be. This is political theater. This is protected by the goddam bullshiat Citizens United ruling. We could buy the car in the name of the Joe Biden Is A Regular Guy Media Manipulation Trust, which could then "give" the car to Biden in accordance with its to-be-written trust instruments. IF he can't accept it, then the trust either gives the car to some non-profit or sells it and gives the money away. Or Biden could take the car after he leaves government service, maybe. But if we call the car, and the giving of the car, "political advertising" then we should be in the clear and even if we're not it could make an interesting legal shiat-storm.

2012-10-12 12:48:29 PM
So. Pitch so far:

Unfortunately, not everything on the internet is true, no matter what the internet tries to tell you. Over the past four years one of the internet's favorite political meme's is of "Uncle Joe Biden." It started with an Onion article (http://www.theonion.com/articles/shirtless-biden-washes-trans-am-in-w hite-house-dri,2718/) which poked fun at the Vice President because of his blue collar mannerisms and forthright speech when discussing...well...anything.

Joe Biden has made a career about speaking what he means, regardless if it is in his best political interest or if it is the "politically correct" thing to say. Because of this he endures jokes regarding his "gaffes" and verbal miscues and America (and some of the rest of the world) laugh and chuckle about this homer Vice President of ours.

All the while, Joe Biden has calmly and quietly been an incredible Vice President. He was one of the first politicians to publicly embrace gay marriage (http://articles.latimes.com/2012/may/06/nation/la-na-biden-gay-marria ge-20120507) and may have been personally responsible for President Obama coming out in favor of gay marriage and the subsequent change in the Democratic Party's platform.

In order to let Vice President Biden know just how much we appreciate them, while also making a very silly part of the internet come true (we are the internet after all); let's buy Uncle Joe a Trans Am like one that is featured in the Onion article linked to above. It's hilarious, it's awesome and gosh darnit, it's something that we can talk about in addition to the cat pictures and rage comics.

Now, if for some reason this awesome gift is too awesome and cannot be given to Vice President Biden, the internet will still purchase the car and auction it off.

All proceeds will be distributed to the Biden Breast Health Initiative, Doctors Without Borders, the Wounded Warrior Project and GLAAD.

Regardless if it is to Joe Biden or to charity, maybe Joe Biden will even wash it on the White House lawn.

**Im wondering if we should just do this straight up for charity....I sincerely doubt he'll be able to accept it.

I like this. I'm going to add a story to the beginning of the pitch.

2012-10-12 12:49:50 PM
Suggestions for the pitch text:

Ladies and gentlemen of the Internet, Joe Biden is awesome. And frankly, it's a national disgrace that he doesn't have a sweet-ass ride to impress Congress, foreign dignitaries, and chicks with. We, the denizens of the Internet have decided to rectify this situation by giving Vice President Joe Biden a kickass Trans Am.

We're targeting $25,000 as the amount needed to find a 1979 to 1983 Trans Am in great condition, plus taxes, title, insurance and the necessary things to get it delivered to the Vice President in Washington, D.C.

Now, a serious note: We realize that the Vice President can't accept a gift like this. However, we expect that the action itself will be noteworthy and garner attention. After presenting the vehicle to the Vice President, we will sell it at auction and the proceeds will be donated to the following charities in equal measure. We sincerely hope that the attention this campaign gains will allow us to sell the vehicle for a better price than the fundraising target and get some great funds for some great charities, and have some fun along the way.

So, kick in a couple of bucks to buy Joe Biden a kickass ride, wontcha?
