Not a huge amount is known yet about Chosen (not to be confused with the Jennifer Lopez dance show, just in case you thought we'd finally handed in our Geek badge and gone revealed our latent obsession with steamy salsa dancing).

The ABC drama is to revolve around a fifteen year old girl believed to be the reincarnated goddess of a South American religion, who becomes swept into a complex story of "family struggle, teen romance and California evil". We'll keep an eye out for more.

PUMA MAN!

A Takeshi Kovacs serial would be pretty cool

Isn't the whole Steampunk thing long over with now? Lamest fad ever.

Neondistraction: Slam Bradley: I liked Gotham Central - I'm 1% hopeful that they could make that into a show - not necessarily had to be set in the Batman universe (but I'd buy more tv's and turn them all on just to make ratings if they would).

Sadly, ratings do not work that way. They could, we've had the technology for at least a decade, but Nielsen just keeps doing things they same way they've been for 60 years. Small surveys and a handful of selected families that fill out a 'viewing diary' and send it back to the company. Then they take that incredibly small and very likely inaccurate sample size, assume it applies to the whole country, and boom - TV ratings.

When I first got a TiVo, I got a letter asking if I would be willing to let them monitor. I signed up and was interviewed about how I use the device. I don't recall if the consent applied to my TiVo or my account, but I suspect the latter. If the former, that TiVo was retired some time ago. If the latter, I'm one of those folks killing popular shows where nobody watches the commercials because only DVR users watch them.

Considering they just pulled the animated Green Lantern show (this episode was supposed to be Steampunk) and Young Justice at the last second, so that my DVR still lists them, I honestly wonder why I should trust these articles about upcoming geek shows. They're going to pull them so fast your cable box won't even know it.

Apok451: cgraves67: This is the first I've heard of American Gods. It sounds right up my alley. I'm gonna have to go read it.

The book was awesome. I think HBO will give it good treatment.

The only thing I worry about is Neil's ability to deliver scripts on time if he's the one writing it. There've been unspecified "issues" with the scripts he's written for other shows (the Doctor Who script ended up being pushed back an entire series).

He's better than GRRM at that, and they're doing just fine right now with his series

A helpful categorization:

1) Superhero (Wonderwoman, The Hulk, SHIELD, Booster Gold)
2) Crime procedural with a magic/paranormal/sci-fi twist (Grave Sight, Hemlock Grove, Powers, Seeing Things, Vigilant, Wunderland
3) Blatant rip-offs of other shows/films (Beautiful People, Darkfall, Defender, Defiance, Midnighters, The Selection)
4) High schoolers develop powers (Athena, Chosen, Copeland Prep)
