WTF is the point to the iPad mini? Isn't that just an iPod or an iPhone?

machoprogrammer: WTF is the point to the iPad mini? Isn't that just an iPod or an iPhone?

What's the point of a 7" tablet don't we have android phones. There is a market for a tablet that's less than 10" (9.7" for Apple) but I think they are missing the boat with the size of their device. The appeal of the 7" tablets and the 8.9" tablet from Samsung is that it fits into pockets. The last I looke the mini was too big to fit into pockets, they could have changed it since I last looked but I have no desire to even pull up the stats anymore since it will sell well anyway just because it's an iDevice.

To challenge the 'successful' android tablets, like the Kindle Fire and the Nexus 7, which both have smaller screens.

People who don't want a big screen, or want to spend £500 on an iPad, but still want a tablet for some reason, are buying smaller, cheaper 7" ones. Now Apple can have them too.

More importantly, can they update the goddamn iMacs and Minis already?

I look forward to yet more inane questions about tiny inconsistencies between iOS devices that I can neither change nor control from the Apple fans I support.

Supposedly, it's an 8" tablet, so if an 8.9" fits in your pocket, the 8" should.

/and are you wearing cargo pants or something, 'cause that's still pretty big

The greatest technological achievement in history is either a.) Movable block type (the modern printing press) or b.) the Internet. Take your pick.

The iPhone got bigger and the iPad is getting smaller? What's the point?

So...it's an iPhone without phone abilities until you add Skype?

Can they bring back the old iPod Nano? The new one is shiat. Sure, use your phone for music, yada yada whatever but the Nano was smaller and cheaper and had 10 times the battery life compared to any smartphone.

I'm curious how you you "last looked" at the stats of a device that doesn't exist. You mean the last time you looked at a rumor site?

4:3, 8" - 6.39*4.81
16:9, 8.9" = 7.76*4.36

You're telling me that that half inch is standing in the way between pocketability and nothing?

From Gizmodo, yes it was a rumor site but a lot of times they are accurate and yes it could change that's why I said they could have changed it which would have made my point invalid but we will see when official specs are released.

Also if your device is just barely fitting then yes a half an inch is a world of difference.

I know. They should get a better tailer.

The only reason I'd really consider getting an iOS tablet is because currently it's the only mobile platform Games Workshop is putting it's digital publications on. Apparently android versions are coming someday, but for now...

Ok, iOS also has the Final Fantasy Tactics re-release on it. That too.

I have an iPad 2. I have a Nexus 7.

The iPad is pretty much just used for games and maybe Netflix because it's almost as big as my Ultrabook and much more limited in what it can do

The Nexus 7 goes with me to work or on trips because it's the size of a hardback book and is very easy to hold one-handed.

The iPad Mini would probably be nicer to have than the iPad 2, but only really useful for casual users or those who already use iProducts for everything.

I'd buy it if it had buttons maybe, because that would be excellent for gaming.
Aside from that, I enjoy my iPad as it is so I see no reason to trade it in.

/holding out judgement till I actually see the thing.

I have a Nexus 7, I don't have a smartphone, so I love this thing. (Dropped my smartphone because I got sick of $100+ bills every month). It almost paid for itself already by getting pdf copies of my school books, by next semester it will have paid for itself. And if I take my case off, it fits in my back jeans pocket, not like I'm sticking a $300 device in my back pocket without a case on it though, and didn't cargoes go out like 10 years ago?

I have it on PS1 (non Greatest Hits version) and War of the Lions on PSP, I'll take my Android

You just know somewhere out there there are people who already own an iPhone and an iPad who will stand in line to buy an iPad mini.

I downloaded Shinging Force for my iphone and hate the control. I canno imagine playing a game like Mario or Sonic or one that requires any kind of percision. Maybe it is better on an ipad.

No, it isn't.
The lack of tactile response is the iThings biggest weakness when it comes to gaming.
Which means they either have to redesign the games to work or you're just stuck with the suck.

/Recently got Metal slug.
/Looks great, runs great, but its near impossible to control.
