So did Romney, from what little I saw of the first presidential debate. Did the same people speak about his smirk as well?

Its not my article, it's from politico. I realize that "stupid people tweet shiat because our society is in freefall" articles are nothing new, but Politico deemed it worth of being on their main page, so since it's not news, what better place to submit it than on Fark.

You just seem to want to tear me apart for something I had no hand in writing. Why you feel the need to, I don't know, but you are. So why are you so pissy this morning?

THIS!

2012-10-12 10:47:13 AM
You know what, BS needs to be called out. Ryan was spewing BS like a wild man, and Biden reacted appropriately.

Republicans have been very, very good at controlling the narrative and cowing the media and Democrats from calling them out on their lies. Obama in the first debate is a perfect example of that. Biden wasn't going to sit there and act like BS being spoken is legit and shouldn't be laughed at. It was quite refreshing. Republicans really haven't had to face that before, so I'm sure they're completely thrown off by it. The best they can do is try to point away from WHY Biden was reacting that way and laughing at them.

2012-10-12 10:50:26 AM
I'm sorry, Republicans, that Ryan had to lie so much and that Biden had to respond in such a condescending demeaning manner, calling Ryan out on all his bullshiat. I'm sorry if his attitude hurt your feelings. Republican feelings are notoriously fragile. But we saw what happened when Obama held back on Romney for all his horseshiat.

He didn't lie! The one and only thing they can point to is whether or not Administration called Bashar Assad a reformer and that just comes down to semantics. Hilliary said that others said he was a reformer. May news sources got it wrong too. And I would say that if Hilliary brought it up and said it that way then she was trying to form public opinion that he was a reformer. It's kind of like when politicians say that they have friends that say stuff.
And Uncle Joe is over there laughing like a damn idiot. And I like Joe! I really wish there were more people out there that could just talk to the American people like he normally does. But last night he was on something. They talked about giving Obama valium before the debate, what the hell did that give Joe? What turns a normally likable guy into a complete arse?

This was a sad dodge by Ryan. "What would you do about Syria that is different from what the Obama administration is doing?" Well, we would have (in the past) not said this relatively unimportant thing that has absolutely nothing to do with the actions now and moving forward or the question you just asked me. I wish she would have followed up on that. "Congressman Ryan, the question is what would your administration do differently going forward than the Obama administration is doing?" His answer might have not been a lie, but it was a COMPLETE non-answer dodge of the question.

Yeah. Sometimes his youth and inexperience came though. That would have easily been answered and he dropped it. He could have just mumbled something like "we would stand side to side with Israel and that's a complete departure from what the President is doing". Raw red meat for the Jew and Christian voters. Yeah he didn't knock that one out of the park.

When your opponent will lie through their teeth and then deny it when called out on their bs, laughing at them and interrupting them while they're telling their lies is about all that can be done. Let's hope Obama learns the lesson from this debate.

The Stealth Hippopotamus: The worst they can say is that he exaggerating. While old Joe out and out lied

Really? From your link here is an outright lie:

RYAN: "What troubles me more is how this administration has handled all of these issues. Look at what they're doing through Obamacare with respect to assaulting the religious liberties of this country. They're infringing upon our first freedom, the freedom of religion, by infringing on Catholic charities, Catholic churches, Catholic hospitals."

THE FACTS: The requirement under the health care law that most employers cover birth control free of charge to female employees does not apply to churches, houses of worship, or other institutions directly involved in propagating a religious faith. It does apply to church-affiliated institutions such as hospitals and charities that serve the general public.

Whatever. Joe did what he was supposed to do. The chances of him getting any undecideds onboard during a VP debate were pretty slim, but he sure as shiat managed to energize the (admittedly weak and wishy-washy) Democratic base.

As for news coverage and tweeting, most of these people fall into one of two categories:

1. Hacks who will support one side or another no matter what; and
2. CNN-type anchors who care more about great hair and who looks "presidential."

Biden fired people up. That was his job. Mission accomplished.

Wow, that has to be the King of all Strawmen arguments. Ok, I hereby claim Joe Biden lied over and over again. Want some more examples?

From the AP, a known Right wing organization I know:

BIDEN: "Well, we weren't told they wanted more security there. We did not know they wanted more security again. And by the way, at the time we were told exactly - we said exactly what the intelligence community told us that they knew. That was the assessment. And as the intelligence community changed their view, we made it clear they changed their view."

RYAN: "There were requests for more security."

THE FACTS: Ryan is right, judging by testimony from Obama administration officials at the hearing a day earlier.

Oops that was a lie Mr. Vice President.

BIDEN: "We went out and rescued General Motors."

THE FACTS: Actually, the auto bailout of General Motors and Chrysler began under President George W. Bush. The Obama administration continued and expanded it.

I disagreed with Bush. But oops another lie Mr. Vice President.

BIDEN, when asked who would pay more taxes in Obama's second term: "People making a million dollars or more."

THE FACTS: Obama's proposed tax increase reaches farther down the income ladder than millionaires. He wants to roll back Bush-era tax cuts for individuals making more than $200,000 and couples making more than $250,000.

Oops.

BIDEN: "What we did is, we saved $716 billion and put it back, applied it to Medicare."

THE FACTS: Contrary to Biden's assertion, not all the money cut from Medicare is going back into the program in some other way. The administration is cutting $716 billion over 10 years in Medicare payments to providers and using some of the money to improve benefits under the program. But most of the money is being used to expand health care coverage outside of Medicare.

Oopsy.

BIDEN: "Romney said 'No, let Detroit go bankrupt.'"

THE FACTS: GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has gotten endless grief through the campaign for the headline put on a November 2008 opinion essay he wrote for The New York Times. But his point was never that he wanted the auto industry to go down the tubes.

Romney opposed using government money to bail out Chrysler and General Motors, instead favoring privately financed bankruptcy restructuring. His prescription seemed improbable. Automakers were hemorrhaging cash and the banking system was in crisis, so private money wasn't available. Without the government money, it's likely both companies would have gone out of business. Romney did propose government-guaranteed private loans for both companies after bankruptcy.

Shall we keep going?

2012-10-12 02:36:56 PM
I don't really see the problem with this. Romney was smirking occassionally in the presidential debate. It has probably happened in the past debates as well. As long as they aren't throwing a laughing fit and interrupting their opponenent, I'm cool with it.

I disagreed with Bush. But oops another lie Mr. Vice President.

BIDEN, when asked who would pay more taxes in Obama's second term: "People making a million dollars or more."

THE FACTS: Obama's proposed tax increase reaches farther down the income ladder than milliona ...

You missed a few douchebox:

RYAN: "Look at just the $90 billion in stimulus the vice president was in charge of overseeing - this $90 billion in green pork to campaign contributors and special interest groups."

THE FACTS: Dismissing an entire package of energy stimulus grants and loans as "green pork" ignores the help that was given to people to make their homes more energy efficient, grants to public entities constructing high speed rail lines and tax credits to manufacturers to install equipment fostering cleaner energy.

To be sure, there were notable failed investments, such as $528 million to the politically connected and now-bankrupt solar power company Solyndra. But Ryan's claim made it sound like every penny went down the drain.

More broadly, economists are nearly universal in saying President Barack Obama's $800 billion-plus stimulus passed in early 2009 helped create both public-sector and private-sector jobs, even if they fell short of what sponsors had hoped. Douglas Elmendorf, director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, estimated the stimulus saved or created more than 3 million jobs.

___ RYAN: "And then they put this new Obamacare board in charge of cutting Medicare each and every year in ways that will lead to denied care for current seniors. This board, by the way, it's 15 people, the president's supposed to appoint them next year. And not one of them even has to have medical training."

THE FACTS: Ryan is referring to the Independent Payment Advisory Board, created under Obama's health care overhaul law. It has the power to force cuts in Medicare payments to service providers if costs rise above certain levels and Congress fails to act. But it doesn't look like the board will be cutting Medicare "each and every year," as Ryan asserts. Medicare costs are currently rising modestly and the government's own experts project the board's intervention will not be needed until 2018 or 2019 at the earliest - after Obama leaves office if re-elected to a second term.

RYAN: "We cannot allow Iran to gain a nuclear weapons capability. Now, let's take a look at where we've gone - come from. When Barack Obama was elected, they had enough fissile material - nuclear material - to make one bomb. Now they have enough for five. They're racing toward a nuclear weapon. They're four years closer toward a nuclear weapons capability."

THE FACTS: Ryan's claim is misleading. Iran isn't believed to have produced any of the highly enriched uranium needed to produce even one nuclear weapon, let alone five. That point isn't even disputed by Israel, whose Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu implored the world at the United Nations last month to create a "red line" at enrichment above 20 percent. Iran would have to enrich uranium at much higher levels to produce a weapon. There is intelligence suggesting that Iran has worked on weapon designs, but not that it has developed a delivery system for any potential nuclear warhead.

THE FACTS: The requirement under the health care law that most employers cover birth control free of charge to female employees does not apply to churches, houses of worship or other institutions directly involved in propagating a religious faith. It does apply to church-affiliated institutions such as hospitals and charities that serve the general public.

RYAN: "We should have spoken out right away when the green revolution was up and starting, when the mullahs in Iran were attacking their people. We should not have called Bashar Assad a reformer when he was turning his Russian-provided guns on his own people."

THE FACTS: Neither Obama nor anyone else in his administration ever considered the Syrian leader a "reformer." The oft-repeated charge stems from an interview Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton gave in March 2011 noting that "many of the members of Congress of both parties who have gone to Syria in recent months have said they believe he's a reformer." She did not endorse that view. The comment was widely perceived to be a knock at senators, such as John Kerry of Massachusetts, who maintained cordial relations with Assad in the months leading up to his crackdown on protesters.

RYAN: "This one tax would actually tax about 53 percent of small-business income."

BIDEN: "Ninety-seven percent of the small businesses in America pay less - make less than $250,000."

THE FACTS: Both are correct, but incomplete, when sizing up the effect on small business of raising taxes for individuals making more than $200,000 and married couples making more than $250,000, as Obama wants to do. Republicans say that would hit small-business owners who report business income on their individual income tax; Democrats say the overwhelming majority of small businesses would not be affected.

According to a 2010 report by the Joint Committee on Taxation, the official scorekeeper for Congress, about 3 percent of people who report business income would face a tax increase under Obama's plan. That support's Biden's point.

The same report says those business owners account for about half of all business income. That supports Ryan.

RYAN: Notes that there have been four rounds of U.N. sanctions on Iran to deter its nuclear program, three during the Bush administration and one under Obama. "And the only reason we got it is because Russia watered it down and prevented the sanctions from hitting the central bank. Mitt Romney proposed these sanctions in 2007. In Congress, I've been fighting for these sanctions since 2009. The administration was blocking us every step of the way." He also noted the administration has granted 20 waivers to the sanctions.

THE FACTS: The argument that the administration was watering down or delaying sanctions is misleading. For sanctions to work, they need maximum global agreement and cooperation. Russia watered down U.N. sanctions not only under Obama but also under Bush. And it's highly unlikely that a Romney administration, particularly led by a candidate who says Russia is the biggest geostrategic threat to the U.S., would be able to get Russia completely on board with what the U.S. wants - either on Iran or Syria.

The more absolute U.S. sanctions that Ryan and others have pushed in Congress would have punished U.S. allies, including most countries in Europe as well as Japan and South Korea, along with good friends like India and Singapore - without the exemptions that were put in place.

The administration has indeed granted 20 waivers, to countries that made significant reductions in Iranian oil imports. And the sanctions are pinching; Iran has been convulsed over the past week with protests over the collapse of its currency, which most people say is a direct result of the sanctions that the U.S. and others have imposed.

At the same group of people who insist that the moderator who let the candidates talk to each other and debate was terrible but the moderator that was obviously on Biden's side was great.

By the way, Biden did you no favors. The only people who liked what they saw last night were the people who are in a panic as the election turns against Obama.

Oh and the liar was Biden, particularly on Benghazi. First we had the moderator open the debate with an Obama administration talking point that nobody even believes except the far left then we had Biden running excuse number... I lost count... on "Why This Isn't Obama's Fault!"

First, how was the dog that was sick yesterday? Good I hope (seriously).

Second, I've never commented on either moderator. Your boy had his ass handed to him and that would have happened regardless of whatever moderator you would have had. Biden brought his A game and Ryan was struggling the whole debate.

Biden actually gained a few points with me for that. It's about time someone started calling this shameless Gomer Pyle looking liar on his bullshiat.

5 trillion in tax cuts and a doubling of the defense budgets is "revenue neutral" because they're going to cut so loopholes "for the wealthy"? C'mon...

Sweet mother of God this!

I can't even take this election seriously anymore if Romney and Ryan can get away with bullcrap like that.

It's about damn time someone calls them out on it, hopefully Obama does the same next week.

But you guys keep farking that liar liar chicken. It is hilarious.

I claim Paul Ryan lied over and over again. Your great defense is "Joe Biden also told a single lie?" I guess you admit Paul Ryan lies. I think that's the most admission I will possibly get out of you, so we'll ignore how Biden didn't really lie in your link.

I'm glad you were able to admit Paul Ryan is a liar.

Wow, that has to be the King of all Strawmen arguments. Ok, I hereby claim Joe Biden lied over and over again and admit Paul Ryan also lied over and over again.

2) As to "Biden was too hard on him". So what? Do Conservatives think Ryan doesn't have the skills to stick up for himself? Clearly.

3) Ryan failed so hard on Afghanistan if it would have been a boxing match it would have needed a standing 8 count. When Biden said "you want Americans to fight instead of Afghans" (paraphrase) it was an upper-cut. Nothing Romney said during the POTUS debate was even close that type of devastation.

This debate reminded me of the time I argued with someone who was trying to convince me that a hockey team with a guy in the penalty box has exactly as many players on the ice as the team on the power play. There is nothing you can do but laugh at something like that, because their belief that they're inherently right is more powerful than any facts you can present to them. You have to laugh because you can see the contortions their brain goes through in order to ignore reality and evade all responses that would prove them wrong.

The problem with debating these liars is their accusations are (intentionally)rarely specific enough to effectively refute in a few seconds. Laughing and calling "malarkey" is about all you can do in that format.

Worked pretty well.

No, Ryan doesn't believe his lies when he tells them, so that's why he panics when called on it. His supporters, however, refuse to believe that their champion is a complete fraud.

Obama promised to cut the deficeit in half in 4 years

Health Insurance premiums will go down by $2500, they've gone up $3000 and expected to go up another $2400...

President Obama hasn't put a crediable plan on the table to handle the debt crisis.

This is going to be Obama's problem in the second & third debates. If he's polite and stoic, he's going to "lose". If he wipes the floor with Romney, he's going to be rude and obnoxious. The way the media and the Republicans have set things up, there's no way the Democrats can be polite and also take their opponents down like they should be taken.

And they complain about the Seal Team Six movie.

Atlas Shrugged II? Is that a sequel, or does it just refer to the number of people who saw the first movie?

Why would the producer see it twice? That makes no sense.

"You see, If you don't have a good record to run on, your paint your opponent as someone to run from." Barrack Obama 2008." It's what he's doing right now."

Obama promised to cut the deficeit in half in 4 years

Health Insurance premiums will go down by $2500, they've gone up $3000 and expected to go up another $2400...

President Obama hasn't put a crediable plan on the table to handle the debt crisis.

We asked him for the plan. He gave us a speech.

Even if you believe all this why do you think putting the same people that added 5 trillion to the debt during the time of increased revenue from a housing boom is going to fix the problems?

The only "debt crisis" I'm aware of is the one created out of whole cloth by the Teatarded Republicans in Congress, and I'm also pretty sure Obama backed the Bowles-Simpson proposal (that Paul Ryan voted against). What's R&R's plan to tackle the "debt crisis", anyway?

Also, why are we concerned about the President "cutting the deficit in half" when it's the House of Representatives that writes the budget (someone remind me who the "budget wonk" in the majority party of the House is) and thus has final say over whether or not there's a budget deficit?

Lower taxes. The amazing economy growth that will surely result will actually increase revenue so much, not only will it cover the lower taxes, it will cover $2 trillion in increased spending AND pay down the debt.

Joe claims he's got all the answers, and they're doing everyting right. Sounds good, but what sinks Joe is the reality that surrounds him; the ecomomic failures of his administration.

This is one of the reasons why I tune out a bunch of the crap that Romney/Ryan (and the GOP in general says). There has been a real and measurable recovery since Obama took office. It might be slower than what most people expected (and perhaps slower than Obama "promised"), but it is real.

I would have a hell of a lot more respect for the GOP and their sycophants if they said as much. Stop saying the Obama's policies have been a failure, because they haven't. Recognize the recovery and stop pandering to the base that is already going to vote for you. Tell us that you would give the recovery efforts a "C", but that that your plans will turn the recovery into an "A". And tell us some real freaking plans for the recovery and not "repeal Obamacare", "revenue neutral spending increases and tax cuts", and whatever other crap that they are spewing.

I know you would get called a RINO and you might even have to give your opponent credit for something, but you might even get some people in the middle to vote for you. The base is already going to vote for you.

Romney was President 4 years ago? Dang, we have let Wikipedia know they are wrong.

To be fair, 99% of Romney's advisers are Bush's from 4 years ago.

I have relatives that mute the TV whenever Obama talks, even when it's aired on Fox News. They might very well do the same for Biden if they watched the debate. Democrats always lie. Fox news said so.

Plus, the photos of Biden hardly make him look defensive. Now Ryan's Beavis-style "he-he-heh" laugh sounded defensive.

Why even bother making a second one?

The first one flopped BAD. Grossed less than $5 million on a budget of $20 million.

And why make another? Because the free market sometimes needs a second chance.

Somebody's giving it an invisible hand in the market.

I love that Ryan ended with this. He quoted Obama saying, "if you have nothing to run on, paint your opponent as someone to run from." Then Ryan proceeded to paint Obama as someone to run from, because Romney/Ryan have nothing of their own to run on.

Oh, wait: if they criticize Biden they are "GOP water carriers." OK, got it.

Seriously, you don't find the mugging a bit... unsettling? It's what people do when they can't actually respond. I would prefer a straight out "Sorry, Ryan, but that is a lie" (and, yes, Ryan WAS lying about some stuff). Forced laughter? The coward's way out. NOT Vice-Presidential. The freaking office is supposed to have some gravitas. ALL of the gravitas in that debate was on Ryan's end.

You laugh when people lie to your face. Biden was laughing at the lies, not the issues. It's funny how you people are spinning it this way now. "OH MY GOD, BIDEN WAS LAUGHING AT SUCH SENSITIVE TOPICS EVERY TIME RYAN SAID SOMETHING! WAAAAAHHHH!!".

How many times was Ryan asked to provide specifics on things? And how many of those times did he actually provide them? Why did he do nothing but repeat proven lies and broken talking points that Limbaugh, Hannity, Larson, et al still keep repeating? Why did he basically admit that he has nothing to run on by quoting Obama's "When you can't run on something, turn your opponent into something to run away from" and then spend the next minute or so blasting and demonizing Obama?

Sorry that your side was finally called out on their horseshiat and idiocy. Maybe if you hadn't spent the last 3.5 years trying to destroy the country to spite the black man in office, this wouldn't have happened.

What's wrong, can't actually respond to what I said? Republicans publicly stated that "the most important job is to make Obama a one-term president". They spent the last 3.5 years filibustering and fighting everything without doing a lick of help themselves, and all they've tried to pass are anti-abortion and anti-gay laws. They're chomping at the bit to declare war on Iran to appease Israel. Ryan spent all of his time in the debate parroting every Republican talking point made in the last several years, I heard nearly all of them on Sean Hannity's show earlier in the day.

Nice projection, too, about posting "memes and bullshiat", from someone posting memes and bullshiat.
