Rufus Lee King: aremmes: Is the [FAIL] tag for subby? That woman is is a heroine, give her a trophy or something.

Of course. Arson is always nifty.

Exactly. Because destroying the machine, threatening the building and all of its occupants, causing potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage and injury isn't an overreaction to a machine stealing a few quarters. That's just justice, man. That's truth and beauty all wrapped up in a flaming inferno, declaring to the sky that THIS IS WHERE I DRAW THE LINE. We should all be so lucky to die in such a way.

Nope.

A white woman would have realized that the machine was out of order BEFORE putting money in it, so....

I don't think the object of your arson is considered important once you're in court. "Don't light stuff on fire" seems to be the main thrust of the law.

For the most part, what he said ^.

Arson statutes vary greatly from state to state. In Alabama (for the most part), to be charged with arson the object set afire must be a building or vehicle used for business. A vending machine would net her felony criminal mischief. The difference between felony and misdemeanor criminal mischief being the value of the object destroyed. I'm guessing coke machines cost a few thousand bucks.

The general point is still "don't set shiat on fire".

The other thing to keep in mind is that the video doesn't show the end result of the fire. Did the paper simply burn up and the fire self extinguish or did it ignite the plastic front of the machine and extend to actually cause damage to the building? If it extended to the building, then it is felony arson all the way. Enjoy your time in prison.

The thing about fire is that once you unlease it, you don't have any idea what might result so once again, do not go around setting shiat on fire.

Yes, you become a felon if you commit arson. It doesn't matter if you set fire to the curtains or a vending machine. You're doing it deliberately with intent to damage. You're knowingly and recklessly endangering people for no legal reason. She could have smashed the machine with a hammer if she wanted, and it would have been a minor charge, maybe even a fine. Setting fire to something is a completely different matter.

I don't care what race you are, if you recklessly set fire to property and endanger people, you deserve to go to jail for a while.

That's weird. I always thought the law considered threat of loss to life as an important consideration. So I suppose if I burn down someone's candle without permission or light an apartment building on fire these are equivalent?

I agree with that part. And with going to jail. And if people were endangered or possibly endangered it should be treated more seriously. I don't know where this occurred but it looked like the flammable parts of a vending machine, the plastic shell, was endangered.

I really appreciate that she said "I don't need a lawyer, I'm guilty."

it's like "Yes, I set that machine on fire, and I don't care what the reprucussions are."

Also, I may or may not be able to spell reprecussions.

Ooooh, me, me, pick me!

I have lost somewhere in the range of 20.00 in the last year at my stupid company with their stupid, stupid vending machines. I'm not a firebug, but...considered jacking with the machines a time or 3. Mostly with foreign currency that would get jammed up in the works. I have a "snack cabinet" at my desk because of this and buy Red Bull buy the case and store it at work.

/and for the second time tonite and in two different threads, yeah, I sound fat. I know.
