''I'm not a psychopath. I'm not crazy. I'm a human being,'' Vick once told The Associated Press about wanting to own a dog. ''What happened in my past and what I did in the culture I grew up in doesn't shape and mold me as the person I am now.''

I wonder if we could justify electrocuting the culture you're a part of then, or hanging it by the neck until dead.

Since apparently it made you think that torturing dogs to death was OK, or human acceptable behavior.

The premeditated torture and murder of domesticated animals is a heinous act, and to some people it's unforgivable. But, if people are keeping a close eye on him and the dog, and he and his family treat the pet with love and respect, then I can't get too outraged at his trying to demonstrate he's changed.

Well since its OK for the subhuman bastard to have dogs now I hope that he gets chihuahuas. If dogs need to be abused and killed to prove that he's the same bastard he always was, those dogs should be yappy rat dogs.

None of these stories on Mike Vick's dog mention what kind of dog it is, and I think the breed makes a difference. If he got himself a poodle or a small terrier dog that would not be a problem--but if he got a Pit Bull or Great Dane, that would be different.

Vick did not kill a single dog because he had to. He did it because he wanted to. He did not "experiment" with shocking dogs or drownning dogs or pulling out dogs teeth because he had to. He did it because he enjoyed doing these things. That part of him is there. Its under a shiny veneer of pr and money but it aint gone.

Well sure but hes not allowed to own any dog over 20lbs, so the least he could do is organize a new cat fighting ring or something.

Hate vick and think he deserved more punishment for what his kennels did but on this point I can blame the system and its laws as written instead of him.

It is my sincerest hope that Vick grows hopelessly attached to this dog and it because a huge part of his and his families lives.

Then, 10-15 years down the road the dog grows old and sick and his vet recommends putting the dog to sleep. And as he looks down at this wonderful dog who has given his family so much over the years breathing it's last breaths, he realizes that all those other dogs he tortured and killed had just as much personality and were just a trusting, loyal and loving as his dog.

That would be the punishment he deserves.

I wholeheartedly agree and here in the US treating animals the way Vick did cost him years of his freedom and millions in earnings. Not the the US shouldn't do more to protect pets and livestock but let's not pretend we play kickball with kittens in the streets as a national pastime either.

No idea who that is or what you mean, I feel stronger about this since it was defenseless victims, the whole he did his time means nothing to me since it was a public figure who got right out of jail to another high paying job in the public spotlight. imgs.xkcd.com

"I do not consider Hitler to be as bad as he is depicted. He is showing an ability that is amazing and seems to be gaining his victories without much bloodshed." -- Mohandas Gandhi in 1940; accurate at the time, but in hindsight, I bet he'd have liked a mulligan.

Or, if you want to go the whole non-Godwin route:
"It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err." -- Mohandas Gandhi. Or how about, "There is hope for a violent man to become non-violent"? Either way, in the context of Vick, Gandhi's words seem to urge tolerance.

Alternately, one could cite a source with some actual relevance on the topic to hand-- better still, not use borrowed, contrived words to express what amounts to a hyperbiased and tangential opinion. To quote your preferred source again, "'Hate the sin and not the sinner' is a precept which, though easy enough to understand, is rarely practiced, and that is why the poison of hatred spreads in the world." So, well done spreading the poison: Vick screwed up, he got caught, he did his time, and he has been, by all accounts, rehabilitated. He doesn't want his kids to pay for his mistakes, and is considering letting them pick out a dog. Is this really so bad?

Remember, "the path of self-purification is hard and steep"; well, Vick has embarked on this path. Give him a damn break.

Vick underwent tests after requests from animal rights groups, including a psychiatric evaluation.

"We worked with animal rights activist groups, and we are clear," he said. "We worked with their medical professionals about the aspects of our evaluations. Michael fully cooperated with all of those tests. Those tests did not indicate there was any reason he couldn't make a transition forward."

You've obviously never had a Chihuahua as a pet.

And even if Chihuahuas were all yappy rat dogs, that doesn't mean they should be tortured.

Generation_D: ''I'm not a psychopath.

Since apparently it made you think that torturing dogs to death was OK, or human acceptable behavior.

yeah, it's part of my culture to beat people like Michael Vick until they die. Hey, don't blame me. It's just that I don't think any animal - even if I don't like it - should be tortured. Your culture does shape you. It's farking reality and if your culture told you it was okay to torture dogs to death then my culture says it's okay to chain you up and beat you with a baseball bat.
