I'll need to watch the debate on YouTube. I fell asleep before the debate last night. Was it that much of a beating?

That was beautiful. The culmination of everything The Onion has done with the Joe Biden character over these past few years. If I weren't already in the tank for Fartbongo, I'd vote for him just so these guys would be able to put out more Biden stories.

That closing statement sounds a lot better if you imagine it being a "spoken word" song performed by Johnny Cash.

To me, Biden seems like a guy who would laugh the loudest at the fun poked at him by the Onion. I bet he prints these things out and tapes them on his office walls or something.

///wonders what, exactly, he was doing on Obama's roof that night

He then pulled out a guitar and began a heartfelt acoustic rendition of "Living on a Prayer".

DubyaHater: I'll need to watch the debate on YouTube. I fell asleep before the debate last night. Was it that much of a beating?

It wasn't as much of a beating as Romney's beating of Obama - Ryan got some shots in instead of just laying down and taking it - but Biden hammered him again and again over his and Romney's statements about the middle and lower class, as well as the R&R campaign's mendacity and flip-flops.

It's worth watching, I think. There was some real wierdness about some of the foreign policy questions; even the moderator took a shot at Romney and Ryan's complete lack of specifics.

It wasn't so much a debate as it was assault and battery on a minor.

They've struck a comedy sweet spot. The Biden articles are more likely to endear him to the Onion's readership than make him an object of ridicule.

Biden beat Ryan down in a way that only elder statesmen know how to beat down junior congressmen. It was pretty glorious.

The moderator actually did her job last night as well, which was a pleasant surprise.

Biden never actually threw Ryan off his game, and I think a fair assessment of the night shows Ryan got a message across that was in line with Romney's last week: "both of our campaigns want to fix this country, but their way hasn't worked so America should give us an opportunity to try our way."

The problem for Ryan was that every time he tried to criticize Obama's record Biden would interject to dispute Ryan's claims with a detailed breakdown of the issue, and when Biden went after Romney or Ryan's policies or record Ryan only said "that's false" or "you're leaving out important details" and then went straight into the next attack on Obama instead of defending their policies or record.

I know it will lead to a lot of criticism of her, but I think the moderator Martha Raddatz did the most damage to Ryan during the debate. On several issues (particularly the war in Afghanistan, taxes on those making less than $250,000 a year, and abortion) she demanded a promise from both Biden and Ryan that they can promise that what each campaign says they will do. Biden gave an explicit promise on each, while Ryan just continued to give a response of "well, what we're saying is this is what we hope to do and we will govern based on those hopes" that Raddatz kept calling him out on.

To anyone who watched the same debate I, and the rest of Fark, watched it ended something like this:

18.media.tumblr.com

The media is calling it a draw because Biden was kept interrupting and was overly aggressive and Ryan had a hard job to do, so we should cut him some slack. Even farking NPR is taking this line - their segment on the debate this morning went on about Biden's interruptions then played a bunch of clips of Ryan spouting his talking points without playing any of Biden's answers.

No, it wasn't a beating. CNN poll has it 48-44 Ryan.

Basically it was red meat for the base type banter. The worry for dems is whether Biden's smirking rudeness will be a turn off for undecided voters, like gore's sighing in the first debate against bush, which he won on points but ended up losing ground in the polls.

Nope.

http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/pollingcenter/polls/3262

SPECIAL NOTE OF CAUTION #2: The sample of debate-watchers in this poll were 31% Democratic and 33% Republican. That indicates that the sample of debate watchers is about eight points more Republican than an average CNN poll of all Americans, so the respondents were more Republican than the general public.

Yes I saw that. But it wasn't an ass kicking either even if you give Biden an additional 8 points to adjust for the sample.

People who are over the moon for Biden now are just left wing idealogues who are happy about Biden outyelling Ryan, unlike Obama last week. You know, like you guys.

If you think you shouldn't be concerned about the effect of Biden looking like a jerk to undecideds, again you have to think about gore v bush.

I'm not voting for Romney anyway, even if obama takes a dump on the podium in he remaining debates, but dont delude yourselves here.

Romney interrupts and continues to talk and really tries to win on emotion without facts - Huge victory

Biden interrupts (but moderator plays stronger role in pace) and tries to win on emotion with facts and studies - Bully that got destroyed.

It is easy to argue that Romney won his debate on emotion and presence without facts. I'm not sure how people claim Ryan won his debate without emotion, presence, or facts.

This is also ignoring the whole "specifics thing". In the tax debate, he repeated the "the loopholes are there and you can find the 20% deduction" even after Biden rattled off 5 studies and exact tax loopholes with numbers explaining how it can't be done.

Does it make you look like a jerk if you make faces at someone who is lying and then proceed to tell them why they are lying?
