Those Soul Train videos always put a smile on my face. It seems like music was a lot more positive and fun back then. Also, the only time you'd see so many thin Americans in a room together now is at an anorexia support group meeting.

How I really dance: like the guy in Lionel Mandrake's post.

Your link is bad and you should feel bad. In a thread like this, if you're going to have a link entitled "kick," it should be this one.

Probably because we don't have much music this extremely funky anymore. They were good times.

You're one of my favourite Farkers, but I'm old enough to clearly remember this time, even though I wasn't old enough to participate in it -- only witness it -- and you're wronger than a trainful of wrong overturning in Wrong Reservoir just outside of Wrongville. Dressing and dancing like that at that time got you an express ticket to Laidsville. John Travolta didn't star in Saturday Night Fever because he was too stupid to know better, and the Bee Gees didn't lead the charts because no one was getting laid. It was a different time, one remote to you, but comparing it to the desperately self-conscious high anxiety of our post-Reagan era is extremely ignorant.

These aren't kids, these are trained dancers. Kids in the 70s danced as poorly as they do today. And the discos probably weren't as nice as that studio set either. The first time I went to a dance club, I was assaulted by music at ear-rupturing volume, guys standing around swigging vodkas, and a circle of fat girls bouncing up and down.

Lol, thank god that wasnt my experience. Or I probably wouldnt have stuck with it as long as I have.

I'm a white guy who grew up dancing like that to Soul Train. It started when they locked me up at age 9 in a State "special school" where only about 1/4 of us were white (and everybody came from poor families, rich people can afford to "place" their "troubled" children better). In fact I remember when the Jackson 5 first hit it big, and while I preferred Wilson Pickett and other singers with deeper voices it saddened me that my hair would never be like Michael's.

So that "whites got no rhythm" thing is wrong. Even now, pushing 50 and with a BMI of 27.1, I can still boogie with the best. For about 20 minutes till I get tired & winded and have to go take a nap.

What I was always best at though was slow dancing. You know, the vertical grind. If the chaperones weren't watching too closely I could get you off during Free Bird, girl or boy.

And "trained dancers" my arse, you learned to dance like the people on Soul Train by watching the people on Soul Train. That kind of dancing is like sex: if you need to take lessons it's just not for you.

Is it fun to be that correct, if the price is being humorless?

This video worked amazingly well with Pigface - Closer to Heaven (Buzz Mccoy [Thrill Kill Kult]) remix in at about 50/50 with the Youtube audio.
