You mean to say that actors are not the same people as the characters they portray?

Colour me shocked.

To be fair, most moderately intelligent middle-schoolers could also graduate from highschool at age 13 if all they have to do is take a test and read some books.

He isn't portrayed as an idiot; he's portrayed as a 7th-grade boy that likes gross things, dangerous things, while being fairly devious but caring.

The next thing you're going to tell me is that Eric Stonestreet isn't gay! Come on, Subby!

Then there's the occasional implication that he's the kind of kid that probably shouldn't leave the house without a helmet. He's basically the DJ of this show.

The Dunphy's son on Modern Family

Dunphys'. Plural possessive.

I'll bet he's smart enough to know better than this.

cefm: To be fair, most moderately intelligent middle-schoolers could also graduate from highschool at age 13 if all they have to do is take a test and read some books.

Yep. But studies generally suggest that it's not a smart way to go. Our culture is really, really bad at fostering precocious kids.

This particular kid is in showbiz and probably wouldn't have any kind of normal school experience anyway, so I'll give him a pass on the skipping-grades thing.

How about this. When he can tell me the implications of testing 3 standard deviations above the mean for an IQ test and what that means for spacial reasoning vs deductive reasoning I'll believe he is as smart as his publicist says.

FWIW, while (only possibly; depends on the instrument) incredibly high, an IQ of 150 doesn't graduate high school below the age of 16 (and even then it's mostly a handjob to the parents that force such an event). That said, an idiot savant graduates as soon as they've finished reading the books.

/This is assuming we're going w/ the IQ of 155 being the highest measurable (+99.999%)
//If we're using one of the pussy tests that near 200 as a top IQ, 150 is considered just above average
///Standard deviations, not raw scores, should be reported for IQs

How do these child actors get away with testing out? Is that a CA thing? I wanted to test out and start college when I was in my early teens, but my state wouldn't let me until I was 16...since I was already a senior when I turned 16 I just rode it out and graduated.

/school was 25 miles from home...sucked not being able to drive.

High IQ is overrated. It makes it more painful to watch the idiots line up and vote to push this country down the economic toilet because they want nice things but don't want to work for them. It's painful to watch Idiocracy become inevitable reality on a daily basis.

Clever reference to "idiocracy," genius.

Oh look elvin thinks he is smart, and therefore from the entire history of arts, land iterature makes a snide reference to a "b" movie that is the absolute favorite of the basement dweller crowd. Let me guess all the jocks who used to bully you work in the produce section where you pick up your lettuce after seven and half hours in a cubicle.

He may or may not be very smart, but this story doesn't swing it one way or the other.

It isn't uncommon for young actors to do the same thing. It has to do with the logistics of a shooting schedule, not IQ.
