Echo

I hear the Echo
Of your paws,
As they danced across the floor.

I hear you jump down,
The floor vibrates in my mind.
Thunder feet!

Echo of Fun.

I see you,
Out the corner of my eye.
Will myself not to cry.

Sometimes I feel you,
Curled up into my knee.
Adding warmth.

Echo of Comfort.

You drift through my mind,
Settle on the back of the couch.
Pat my hair.

The door opens on it's own,
As I perch upon the throne.
Draft of curiosity.

Echo of Companionship.

I feel your glorious presence,
Gone, but still lingering,
Incense for my Soul.

Drifting,

Echo of Love.

Mrs. BBBB here. Hubby is in the kitchen making us breakfast this morning, and he left me with the computer. He told me what to do with it, but seeing as how I've never done this before, hopefully I don't screw this up too much. I wanted to thank everyone for all your kind words, encouragement, prayers, and everything else that was sent my way while all this was going on. I know I had it easy, and I honestly cannot believe that honey actually held everything together like he did. He kept telling me that he didn't have a choice, and that when things got bad, he came here on Fark and vented. All of you helped him get through this, and I cannot thank you enough for that. I'm hoping to get on here more often once things calm down around here, but for now, he said to use his screen name and not to screw it up too much. Below is a picture of our first cat, Hattie Marie. She was my baby and a beautiful Russian Blue that turned into a gigantic cat. Sadly we lost her about 7 years ago, but Fat Waffles has taken her role for me. Happy Caturday everyone, I am so very grateful for all of you and all that you have done for my husband, my kids, and for me.

Haruko_Haruhara: Man, I shouldn't have looked at those pics. My shrink says 'move on', but to what? This is not a fun day.

/sigh

Wow... telling someone who is grieving to "move on" is not at all a helpful statement. A therapist's job is to help people find ways to heal. Everyone grieves differently. It's been a little over 10 years since my dad died and I still have days that aren't good. Overall I'm doing ok, but every "milestone" is really hard, looking at pictures isn't always easy, and when the physical pain gets really bad I miss him a whole lot more. It's all normal. Unfortunately, it's so hard to find activities and to go do things that help you heal when you're short on money, living in a place you hate, trying to deal with a terrible therapist, etc.... There are a lot of barriers in your life that are a bit out of your control right now that are going to make it difficult to heal. Be gentle with yourself. Your Caturday family is standing with you & will help you travel along the rough path. **Hug**

Well, maybe, but I didn't have the heart to tell those adorable kits. Besides, they have a point; foxes deserve their own day too!

laulaja: SpaceButler, if I've seen your typing & posts before, they're not recalled. Now curiosity is piqued, as that of cats always is, but need to wait til this posts to satisfy it.

I had to give up my beloved kitten when I moved halfway across Canada a couple years ago, so without anything to contribute, I've just been a very occasional lurker on Caturday threads. But I snapped a bunch of pictures of these arctic fox kits while traveling in Iceland earlier this year, and they've just been sitting on my hard drive since. So I couldn't resist sharing some.

Like this!

(If anyone's curious, the kits are an orphaned pair being raised in captivity by the Arctic Fox Center.)

[farm9.staticflickr.com image 480x640]

She is so dang adorable! I bet she had that off in an instant if she didn't like it. How are you doing sweetie?

I would say that about 3 seconds after that picture, she flopped on her back and tried like crazy to squirm out of it.

I am doing better. I am slowly making the transition from being sad when I think about Alex, to having fond memories when I think of him. I miss him.

That,s the only way to handle it.. Takes strength and determination.. I have lost so many.. it is still difficult to think back.. Had a cat named Buzzbomb.. purred 8.3 on the richter scale.. her favorite game was to jump up on the end of my desk, put her paws out in front of her, and run.. cleared the desk in about 3 seconds.. then lay in the exact center and dare you to put something else on the desk.. built a long basket and attached it to the end of the desk to catch the avalanche of pens, papers, etc. the desk has a window in the middle.. to see the computer monitor placed underneath. I had a cloth mouse on a short stick which I would move around under the glass.. her acrobatics in trying to catch the mouse were of the 'LMAO/ROFL' type... cancer got her.. damn, I miss her... kindred spirits... they are all special in their own way, and we get to share each other while we are here.. have 9 right now.. all rescue kitties.. each has a name that fits, and knows it.. I can call any one by name, and they come running, and it,s not for treats. I also know which ones are safe for belly rubs.. still trying to integrate the latest addition into the flock.. she will now eat dry food (some).. the schedule here is gooshyfood at night, dry food always available.. she was very pregnant and raiding trash cans when I found her.. first litter.. the babies didn't make it.. no diseases, thank goodness.. and she is now fixed.. my alpha female is not happy about her being here.. no fights yet..but lots of growling....
We accept these creatures into our lives, knowing that we will also see them depart.. and it,s difficult.. but part of life.. enjoy each other while you can.. you make each other's life much better in the process... cherish and remember... mine are my furry children, though sometimes I think that they are smarter than I am... and thank you for making Alex's life so much better.

Haroku - beautiful pic!!! I love your artwork!

valnt9 - HOORAY!!!!!

I can't remember what else I just read..... As an update: took Cassie to the vet for the Ivermectin shot this morning (for lung worms). The vet decided to wait and see how Cassie does with the Prednesone for a few weeks because the vet wasn't terribly comfortable with the bad side effects that can happen with the injection. She actually asked me if I ever had gut feelings about stuff because she had a bad feeling about giving the shot. After a few weeks, if she's doing well, I can back the dose to once every other day. The vet wants me to bring Cassie back for new x-rays in a month or so to see if the treatment is working. Still don't have any clue what could possibly be wrong with her....

Awesome watercolor work. Have you ever contemplated making a calendar and offering it for sale?

Also, from someone who studied basic psych in college, your therapist sucks. Wish you could find a new one. My dad died when I was 16 (approaching 42 now) and I am still not totally over it. I still cannot listen to certain songs that remind me of him without crying (Leader of the Band is the worst one, we didn't share music but we do share art! He was an awesome artist, did fairly realistic colored pencil drawings from nature, and would have been better but he was 100% color blind! One of my earliest memories is sorting his colored pencils into like colors, then watching him sort them as gray tones, then him pointing to various objects and asking what color they were: I had that drawing of a fawn in glade for a long time.

Catty Wampus: tigerose: if you exceed 500 Views, you should donate the "cost" of the car washes to your local no kill shelter. I did view the vid, and may again...It is very fun. And you can give it in your cat's name!

My local no-kill shelter is Nine Lives Foundation where the famous Christopher the Cat lives - he was once in a Fark Caturday feature article. The shelter is run by my vet friend.

I donate frequently by collecting old/damaged towels from my local YMCA and also from other gym members who wish to add in towels, blankets, and money. I then deliver them to the shelter monthly. It is, by the way, something that others might wish to try in their own towns. Ask your health clubs and gyms if they would donate the towels - which are used in many ways at shelters.

But you are right tigerose. If we pass 500 hits, he will still have wash the cars and I will see if I can also get him to donate along with us!

I just turned in a bunch of old towels, comforters and sheets that had seen better days. I never thought of the YMCA...gonna have to investigate that! I wish my city shelter was no kill, but they are not..boo hiss! I donate to the place I got Eli the Bitey cat...he was a feral, and he'd been returned at least once..yeah. He was 9 months I think....I wanted a wee bit older cat..too lazy to kitten proof teh world!

Mrs CDK: Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: Got to wondering this morning about how big Pierogi is compared to when we got him back in early July. He was only 3 and a half pounds when we got him from the shelter, and as of today, he's now 11 and a half pounds. Little turd is about as wide as a linebacker. When he eats, he puts both paws on the sides of the food dish and won't let anyone near it. Waffles finally got tired of it and sat on him one morning when she was hungry. He does it with the water as well, so I'm wondering if it's because of his breed, Lynx Siamese mix, or if he's just a little selfish bully with the food. Any ideas?

I don't have enough knowledge of that breed of ferret to even think about answering your question, but, wanted to say...Wow, Pierogi is one big ferret :o)

syzygy whizz: Saw a doggie program where a SERIOUSLY overweight beagle with joint issues got her excercise with...wait for it...
swim therapy!

Speaking as an overweight human with joint issues, this is GREAT. The water supports the body, so gravity is not an issue and one is able to get a surprisingly good workout. The resistance of the water gives the workout a bit more 'oomph' as well as adding a passive massage effect.
Only trouble is getting out...feels like somebody's been playing games with the gravity for a few minutes.

Would your furchild benefit from this, do you think?

Well, he hates water. I do not have a pool (yeah, live in Florida but do not need a pool to maintain) so it would be the tub and that would be a horror for him.

He was stiff this morning and got back up on the bed (using the pet stairs) and rested. I let him stay there for an hour or so and then put him on the floor. He was much perkier once he rested. He is currently hanging out on the dog bed with one of his favorite toys.

He isn't horribly overweight, he needs to drop just under 4 pounds. We started with less food, fewer treats. They ate their kibble happily last night and ate their little portion of food this morning happily. When I leave to run errands they will split a chicken jerky treat (and yes, I make sure their treats and food are made in the USA).

We will get there....just will take some time

[i870.photobucket.com image 640x480]

I bet Buddy would like one of these! (But maybe with a non-pink flower fleece) I made it for a friend's dog when they were over last weekend. It took less than 30 minutes and Nina (pronounced Ninya) loved it!
[i49.tinypic.com image 500x412]

That's adorable! Unfortunately Buddy hates wearing clothing of any kind, lol. He will smother himself in blankets for hours, but put something "on" him and all he wants to do is squirm out of it! Jackets, shirts, hats, booties, forget it. He will grudgingly let me put a coat on him when it is -10 Celsius outside, but that is where he draws the line! Sarah would have loved something like that though.

Have you got a link to a simple pattern? If they're that easy I might try making some for the chihuahua rescue group. Winter's coming fast, and tiny doggies (especially the just-rescued ones who are old/sick/sad/skinny) get chilly so easily!

Little Sarah in a sweater and a blankie!

I would love something knit from my Brat Cat's undercoat, but I do not knit. Booooo! The girliest things I do are cooking and baking and my jewelry and cosmetic/nail polish obsessions. I could bling out every Hollywood starlet on the planet while simultaneously making them fat.

captain feedback: (snips)i like wegies (best contraction evar!) too... and most any long haired puss cats
the maines and forest cats just seem to have a most unique facial structure that i find pleasant.
my shannon (pic above) sheds just her undercoat and you don't even notice it until i get out the dyson ball. then, there's a whole kittens worth of fur in the collecter.

[kittens.jpg]

I'd never had a long haired cat before because I'm allergic (only slightly) to cats. I know you build a resistance to your own cat/s, but I still avoided the long haired kitties, just because I thought they'd make my allergies flare. Imagine my surprise when I finally figured out Go's undercoat seems to keep the highly allergenic dander trapped so my allergies have actually never been much of a problem with her. I just wash my hands and change my clothing after we have a snuggle or I brush her out very fluffy and pretty.

Heh. The fur stories reminded me of one night/early AM when I heard my sis shriek and then a stomp of one of her shoes - and then laughter. I came out of the Super Secret Lair of Infinite Doom to see my sis standing in the kitchen, hand over her mouth, trying to stop laughing. Apparently the GoGo Beastie decided to pull out some of that undercoat while lounging on a chair. She got quite the chunk of it out and apparently dropped it on the kitchen floor. When my sis wandered down for a dead of night snack she saw it out of the corner of her eye and thought it was a mouse. Let the screaming and stomping of mice commence. Who stomps a mouse?!? When she realized it was just some of Go's fur she started laughing. Silly sister! Mice are much more active than large chunks of Wegie-style undercoat! That, and since little Go considers rodents of any kind her BFFs and not a food source, it's a very good thing we don't have mice in the first place.

sherpa18: Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: Made shrimp and crab fettucini alfredo tonight for everyone. Heavy on the garlic ....

[i415.photobucket.com image 200x150]
Post recipe. Now.
/ please?

Nothing special. Imitation crab meat, the only kind the wife will eat, regular shrimp sauteed in butter and garlic, and canned alfredo sauce. But still, heavy on the garlic. If you aren't sweating garlic one hour after you eat it, you didn't put enough garlic in it. Haven't mastered how to make alfredo sauce yet, but since she won't eat fish, I can't make her my Flounder Belle Franklin. Now that is a dish worth waiting for. Three different sauces needed to make the main sauce, flounder, swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, slivered almonds, and shrimp. You don't need teeth to eat it, because it literally melts in your mouth.

You may not be able to get it at a regular pet store (and if you can, it will be probably be VERY overpriced - IMHO). Take a look at Amazon before you buy....

this guy is NOT to be jumping or moving much. He received a predisone shot this morning, back issues...and is on 'bed rest' for the next 2 weeks. Thankfully 'mean doctor lady' worked us in for a shot. She is a wonderful vet.

My first thought upon hearing about the Munchkin cat breed was to wonder if they would have the same back problems Dachunds are prone to have. Hope you can keep the little guy down for a couple weeks so his back can feel better.

From what I understand, Munchkins were bred for a short-leg gene, so their backbones should be as stable as any other cat. Dachsunds were bred for the long-back gene, which causes the swayback issues.

the boys are chiweenie's....doxie chihuahua mixes. he is overweight so we are working on that, he needs to drop 4 pounds so treats are limited, kibble is measured and he WILL get there. I was going to start 1 mile walks tonight but that is out now.

he was curling his back today, I knew he was hurting so thankfully when I stopped at the Vet's office to ask what to do, she said 'bring him in'. he received a short term steroid shot on Wednesday and it stopped helping this morning. This one is more long term.

I hate when any of my furkids is hurting. HATE IT.

btw, he screamed on Monday on our walk when a neighbor was petting him, he was hurting then. By Wednesday I knew he needed to see the mean doctor lady.

he is feeling better now.

Saw a doggie program where a SERIOUSLY overweight beagle with joint issues got her excercise with...wait for it...
swim therapy!

Would your furchild benefit from this, do you think?

reminds me of when my son was in 4th grade, and he was publishing a class newspaper..he included a recipe for Garlic toast. Toasted bread, butter and a sprinkle of garlic salt. Easy for a child to make, but soo good!

When I was veeery sick in field school, I felt my cat Porky, who was living with my folks..jump up onto my bunk, curl up behind my knees and settle in for the night. Then, when he passed, my Mom swore she would hear him jump off the bed upstairs for months...and I must admit I have seen some phantom tails in my time. I think they linger to remind us how very much they loved us.

We still swear that we see Faust out of the corner of our eye sometimes or feel him jump up on the headboard at night...

Graffito: They are awesome. I was wondering where they came from. I assume that they turn white in the winter?

Most commonly they do, but there are actually a few variants, the main two being called "white" (or just "normal") and "blue" (which is really more grey-brown with a faint bluish tint). The blue morph is suited for coastlines which don't freeze over in the winter, so it's generally more common on islands than it is on mainland areas. It's particularly more common (though still in the minority) in Iceland, because arctic foxes elsewhere prey primarily on lemmings, but Iceland doesn't really have much in the "native rodents" department, so sea birds and dead fishes that wash up on shore make up most of an Icelandic fox's winter diet. Also, with no polar bears or wolves in Iceland, the foxes there never had much worry about hiding from predators until humans came.

Of the two in the pictures, the staff told me the fox with grey/white patches was probably a white, and the darker one was probably a blue, but since they'd just been born that spring no one knew for sure yet.

I haven't posted anything here in a long time, but I want to share something special. My hubby and I were inspired by the viral video sensation, Gangnam Style, and decided to make our own parody using our cat, Cruiser, as the star. We have never done anything like this before and we had so much fun shooting it!

I know I'm only a liter, but I hope you all will enjoy our video and share it around - we wanted to see how many YouTube hits we could get, just for fun. We were dared that we couldn't get over 300 hits in a week and we are hoping that with Fark's help - and hopefully Cheezburger will post it, too - that we can exceed that and win the bet!

If you watch it, please leave a comment or like it - we really want to share the laughs and our cat, Cruiser is becoming such a diva that he wants to read his fan mail.

Here's the link to our parody: GangNom-Nom Style!
don't miss the outtakes at the very end!

madanimalscientist: Pretty much everything I have to say has already been said by TheGreenIntern above, but if I may give my own bit of perspective on it....

I'm an Animal Science undergrad at the same university whose vet college is treating Jenka. I've chosen to specialize in Companion Animals and Nutrition (we have to pick "tracks"), and the head of the Companion Animal subdepartment is primarily feline-oriented, so that's what you get crammed full of when you pick that track. He spends an entire lecture on FIP in his classes, and for good reason: FIP is the worst three-letter combination a vet can come across. FIP is caused by feline coronavirus. Normally, feline coronavirus causes mild stomach flu in cats, and infection is highly transmissible and common where there's lots of cats. If you got your cat from a shelter, or it's a former stray, chances are it has FCV. FCV in and of itself is not such a bad thing. The problem is that coronaviruses are single-stranded RNA viruses. That means that during replication, there's no "spell check", and any mutation that happens, sticks. And when coronaviruses mutate, well....anyone remember SARS? Coronaviruses get nasty when they mutate, and as my dear boyfriend said above, "kitty cold" turns into "kitty ebola".

And the worst thing is that because it's viral, there's not much you can do but supportive therapy, and with FIP, that's not much. It is quite literally a death sentence - it just depends on whether it takes a few months or a week. You can't even really create a vaccine, because the high mutation rate would render it obsolete before it reached the shelves. The good news is that in most situations, FIP is rare (1/5000 is the figure they taught us). But 1/5000 still means that it happens, and when it does, it's devastating. There's a reason that I started shaking and crying when they said FIP was likely....and I'd already begun shaking and crying the moment they said it was peritonitis: viral or bacterial, there's little ...

I'm hoping that this is some weird virus, because her symptoms have stumped all the vets, but....I don't know. They taught us to be realistic when dealing with diseases, and that part of my brain is still putting up a good fight. It's just hard to reconcile the cold facts from class when it's your baby there in the ICU....

Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: Mrs.

A great big Caturday welcome!!
you have been adopted by the greatest bunch
of slightly weird people on earth.
Tell BBBB to get you set up with your own log-on so you can
add to the party.
We are all sooooo happy you are home.
/and listening to BBBB relate the trials of the past few months
has only allowed us to know and love the whole BBBB family.

Just got the vet's morning update. They tried to give her a more substantial meal through her feeding tube, but it just made her sick. She's still not interested in eating or drinking. She was supposed to be discharged today, but that's not looking likely. Mrs Intern leaves for a conference tomorrow. I'm scared she won't have a Jenka to come home to.

Haruko_Haruhara: Dad and Kiki. Better times...sort of. Man, was Dad sick there. But Kiki stuck to him like glue.

Oh Haruko, what a nice picture! While your Papa may have been ill, it looks like he is quite happy. And Kiki is definitly saying, "Mine".

Haruko_Haruhara: Man, I shouldn't have looked at those pics. My shrink says 'move on', but to what? This is not a fun day.

/sigh

if the photos bother you now, don't look at them, just put them away for now. Go online, look at cute kitten photos, cute puppies...anything and everything that you can. Put the photos away for awhile, when you are ready to look again, do so...and then if it bothers you again, put them away.

It is very hard to lose those that are close to you. You will move on in your own time, in your own way. But move on, you will.

and to get you started with cute photos:

Girl, this is a keeper photo if ever there was one. A picture of your Dad and his cat, comforting each other. Pull it out every now and then and remember the good times and when bad comes in your head, go back and remember good times.

Truly a very special photo for you, thank you for sharing.

Kiki, greatest cat ever. Ever.

What a pretty kitty!!!! (and of course you are still cool here, you know this is a family, a rather large, slightly dysfunctional, but still loving family)

LOL. Who gives a crap about the official Scrabble dictionary when you have sharp teeth and claws?

Sign on someone's lawn in my hometown. Yes, I saw the turkey in question but he was too far away in the field to get a good shot. As in photo haha

Glad to hear Mrs BBBB is home for keeps. But why did I think wheelchairs haven't tires that pump up? Must be the new improved model ..........
Have at last finnished transcription of the magazine! Took excess time, to my thinking, but at least now is done & finito until next issue.
Cuss & dis-cussions of age ought not to take over Caturday. There's something disconcerting about WallsOfText without cat/critter pix to break them up.

if this age report continues
we will see that this family
covers from the high teens to the 70's (maybe higher)
we are as diverse as our addresses,
all over the world.
we are a unique family.
and DAMN I'm glad I'm part of it!
