Ooh that sounds good! All it needs is Salad and Garlic bread..I lurv Garlic bread!

That was a part of dinner. I cannot in good conscience make Italian without a big salad and garlic bread. I would have to hang up my chef's hat and apron if I made that kind of mistake.

reminds me of when my son was in 4th grade, and he was publishing a class newspaper..he included a recipe for Garlic toast. Toasted bread, butter and a sprinkle of garlic salt. Easy for a child to make, but soo good!

this guy is NOT to be jumping or moving much. He received a predisone shot this morning, back issues...and is on 'bed rest' for the next 2 weeks. Thankfully 'mean doctor lady' worked us in for a shot. She is a wonderful vet.

My first thought upon hearing about the Munchkin cat breed was to wonder if they would have the same back problems Dachunds are prone to have. Hope you can keep the little guy down for a couple weeks so his back can feel better.

From what I understand, Munchkins were bred for a short-leg gene, so their backbones should be as stable as any other cat. Dachsunds were bred for the long-back gene, which causes the swayback issues.

the boys are chiweenie's....doxie chihuahua mixes. he is overweight so we are working on that, he needs to drop 4 pounds so treats are limited, kibble is measured and he WILL get there. I was going to start 1 mile walks tonight but that is out now.

he was curling his back today, I knew he was hurting so thankfully when I stopped at the Vet's office to ask what to do, she said 'bring him in'. he received a short term steroid shot on Wednesday and it stopped helping this morning. This one is more long term.

I hate when any of my furkids is hurting. HATE IT.

btw, he screamed on Monday on our walk when a neighbor was petting him, he was hurting then. By Wednesday I knew he needed to see the mean doctor lady.

he is feeling better now.

Saw a doggie program where a SERIOUSLY overweight beagle with joint issues got her excercise with...wait for it...
swim therapy!

Speaking as an overweight human with joint issues, this is GREAT. The water supports the body, so gravity is not an issue and one is able to get a surprisingly good workout. The resistance of the water gives the workout a bit more 'oomph' as well as adding a passive massage effect.
Only trouble is getting out...feels like somebody's been playing games with the gravity for a few minutes.

Would your furchild benefit from this, do you think?

I haven't posted anything here in a long time, but I want to share something special. My hubby and I were inspired by the viral video sensation, Gangnam Style, and decided to make our own parody using our cat, Cruiser, as the star. We have never done anything like this before and we had so much fun shooting it!

I know I'm only a liter, but I hope you all will enjoy our video and share it around - we wanted to see how many YouTube hits we could get, just for fun. We were dared that we couldn't get over 300 hits in a week and we are hoping that with Fark's help - and hopefully Cheezburger will post it, too - that we can exceed that and win the bet!

If you watch it, please leave a comment or like it - we really want to share the laughs and our cat, Cruiser is becoming such a diva that he wants to read his fan mail.

Here's the link to our parody: GangNom-Nom Style!
don't miss the outtakes at the very end!

My GoGo Beastie is very camera shy but I got her in perfect position for a pic and my very ancient digcam broke. So I bought a new one today but was so tired that not only did I forget half the things on my list that I need for baking projects for my sister's get together she's going to tomorrow (everyone knows her sis cooks for a living, so I get tapped for things like that all the time) I couldn't even read the directions or figure out my new camera. I thought "it is soooo totally nap time" but ended up sleeping all day! So still no pictures of my little Go. Who isn't so little, btw. She's a Norwegian Forest Cat and they are very large and look like Maine Coons. I thought she was a Maine Coon when I first found her - or rather, she first found me - but when I took her to the vet to be scanned for a chip they informed me she was a Norsk Skogkatte (as my grandma would call it - I call her a Wegie a lot of the time).

Now that I am wide awake, I shall wander to the store in a bit, start some cookies that need time to chill and figure out my camera (hopefully). I've got to put on clothes I didn't fall asleep in and are not covered in cat hair first. Apparently I make a wonderful cat bed while I am sawin' logs.

I honestly always thought Wegies wouldn't shed so much in the fall/winter. She's definitely pure Cali Cat so you'd think she'd not even grow so much of an undercoat. She's a tricky kitteh though and combine that with how slow the evolutionary process is and her genes seem to think she's in the wilds of Norway and really needs that thick undercoat - so she grows it out. Then apparently she'll start shedding, but her guard hairs trap it and she'll be walking by me, she'll look just fine, then she'll rub against my leg and I swear I'll have a whole, very slightly smaller cat made of nothing more than the GoGo Beastie's undercoat she's decided I need more than she does stuck to my pants or skirt. Now picture that multiplied by a hard, all day sleep with a shedding Wegie probably rolling all over me. I looked like I was wearing a fur coat when I woke up. Good thing I love that cat. Now she's got to love me back enough to sit the fark still so I can get a pic of her in time for next week! Even the skwerls in my back yard are more cooperative than the GoGo Beastie!

/have to wash my favorite blankie and my comforter, too.

Nothing special. Imitation crab meat, the only kind the wife will eat, regular shrimp sauteed in butter and garlic, and canned alfredo sauce. But still, heavy on the garlic. If you aren't sweating garlic one hour after you eat it, you didn't put enough garlic in it. Haven't mastered how to make alfredo sauce yet, but since she won't eat fish, I can't make her my Flounder Belle Franklin. Now that is a dish worth waiting for. Three different sauces needed to make the main sauce, flounder, swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, slivered almonds, and shrimp. You don't need teeth to eat it, because it literally melts in your mouth.

He seems to be hanging in there, thanks for asking. Still eating like a pig, (even his "special" diet food, which seems to have become his favorite midnight snack), and has bugged the crap out of me the past few nights wanting to play! Unfortunately, he is vomiting more often (which is not unexpected, and I have spoken to my vet about putting him on Prilosec, but we have agreed that we will hold off at this time, since not only can it cause diarrhea {which could possibly lead to dehydration, and that is not good for a cat with CRF}, and the fact that I would have to break an enteric coated pill in half and give him a very bitter tasting med using the pill popper - which would subject him to more stress).

Basically, we are in a wait and see mode until he goes back for another blood test in about 2 weeks. Bottom line - so far, so good.

/ or not so good, if you listen to the white boy - he is not allowed any people food at all right now... :o)

I would love something knit from my Brat Cat's undercoat, but I do not knit. Booooo! The girliest things I do are cooking and baking and my jewelry and cosmetic/nail polish obsessions. I could bling out every Hollywood starlet on the planet while simultaneously making them fat.

I'd never had a long haired cat before because I'm allergic (only slightly) to cats. I know you build a resistance to your own cat/s, but I still avoided the long haired kitties, just because I thought they'd make my allergies flare. Imagine my surprise when I finally figured out Go's undercoat seems to keep the highly allergenic dander trapped so my allergies have actually never been much of a problem with her. I just wash my hands and change my clothing after we have a snuggle or I brush her out very fluffy and pretty.

Heh. The fur stories reminded me of one night/early AM when I heard my sis shriek and then a stomp of one of her shoes - and then laughter. I came out of the Super Secret Lair of Infinite Doom to see my sis standing in the kitchen, hand over her mouth, trying to stop laughing. Apparently the GoGo Beastie decided to pull out some of that undercoat while lounging on a chair. She got quite the chunk of it out and apparently dropped it on the kitchen floor. When my sis wandered down for a dead of night snack she saw it out of the corner of her eye and thought it was a mouse. Let the screaming and stomping of mice commence. Who stomps a mouse?!? When she realized it was just some of Go's fur she started laughing. Silly sister! Mice are much more active than large chunks of Wegie-style undercoat! That, and since little Go considers rodents of any kind her BFFs and not a food source, it's a very good thing we don't have mice in the first place.

That's adorable! Unfortunately Buddy hates wearing clothing of any kind, lol. He will smother himself in blankets for hours, but put something "on" him and all he wants to do is squirm out of it! Jackets, shirts, hats, booties, forget it. He will grudgingly let me put a coat on him when it is -10 Celsius outside, but that is where he draws the line! Sarah would have loved something like that though.

Have you got a link to a simple pattern? If they're that easy I might try making some for the chihuahua rescue group. Winter's coming fast, and tiny doggies (especially the just-rescued ones who are old/sick/sad/skinny) get chilly so easily!

I was actually thinking about Sarah as I was making the little fleece sweater! It is a Simplicity pattern A2099 that I bought at Walmart. The fabric I found at a thrift store for $1. The pattern has 3 sizes in the envelope; extra small, small and medium. I used the small for Nina because of her measurements.

Tried to type before leaving for DKCabaret, but my ride was earlier than expected. So here I type at 0dark30 waiting for Plumbicon to re-emerge so we can ck Ginger & medicate him if he needs. Which he has for past several nights; no seeming to hit receptive injection spots & his b.g.s have been 300+ last 4 nights. Well, make that 5 nights now. Try to keep him from cadging extra chow as well as rotate sites (which I'm supposed to know from long bitter pointy experience).
Haruko_, I've already grumbled about restrictive Medicare measures I've been told of. But compared to Medicaid & to what I've been paying for insurance that didn't cover any meds at all, I should shaddap.
Pl did have considerable help Loading Out afterward; I hardly needed help tote much of anything & only packed back seat of his car. All stays in car til daylight. & I now cd use a Goody-Night pic ....

Greetings all!
Hopefully I'm not too late to join the elders... Turned 60 on 9-16.
This gettin' older crap ain't for sissies! I'll tell ya!
But...also in the news >
New kitlet in the house!
I'm thinking she was a 'drop-off'. The neighborhood boys found her and brought her to me October 3rd. She was very dirty, very hungry and very tired. Here she is after the almond oil in the ears, baby shampoo on the feet and gooshey food in the belleh! Also -- not very happy with the flashey light...

After about an hour she was all play, play, play!

She has these neat 'circles' on her sides, and a perfect 'M'.

The complex manager double checked for any 'missing kittens', and...nope. So, I took her to the vet and got the "kitten package". Clear of harmful ickies and parasites. I gave my room-mate naming rights and she said, "And Gizmo is her name-o". The little 5yr old across the street came over and asked if she could come in and pet "Gizzard".....so that's her nickname.
Never had a cat named Gizzard.
Here she is meeting my three snot-nosed, spoiled, spitting queens, and doing her best 'Sister Bertrille' imitation:

Spinnyr: snip

She's adorable! I've got a kitteh highway going through my back yard and a lot of them stop to say "Oh hai!" before heading off to the woods behind my house. I want each and every kitteh I see. Including your new one, of course. ;-)
