Lord Dimwit: I know. I would happily vote for Joe Biden for President in four years, except I'm worried he'd be too old.

It'd be nice to have an option like him, but the man himself? He's doing four to eight years in probably one of the hardest ever VP climates, let him have his rest. It's like people wanting Hillary - give the woman some time off. You're democratic voters, not Republicans - dynasties are for monarchies.

The problem is, of course, there's nobody like Joe Biden around. :\

President Franken. President Warren. President Ron Wyden (he's the liberal from Oregon, right?). President Russ Feingold. These are all phrases I would be happy to have to say on 20JAN2016.

mrshowrules: The author called him vain? Vain? WTF?

Let's have a pick of Ryan lifting weights and Biden eating two ice cream cones at the same time.

He is vain, but he has the inherent charm combined with just enough tough guy to pull it off.

Dusk-You-n-Me: Joe Biden's reaction to Rep. Barton's apology to BP was a home run. Link

That was definitely a Joe Biden highlight. And if you look at his history--all of it, not just the gaffes--you will see that theme of sincere concern and sympathy with the average American throughout. If undecideds can't see and appreciate that I don't know what to say.

Can it be three and a half hours from now yet?

Hey give Virginia a break, guys. She's done a few years as a rag hag, but this is her first real breakout smear piece with high visibility. She needs to pour it on thick and be concerned and yet morbidly unprofessional at the same time to give you that authentic feeling. She's trying to get your 10/10 troll vote.

Personally, I give her a 9.5 and want her to die in a fire. Well done, lass!

I like Joe Biden. Hell, if I were to have the outright gall and finances to run for office, I would aspire to be Biden because of his speaking skills and how easily he relates to people. Besides, Vice Presidents don't need to go to charm school and can say what they like. I would have no farking problem doing that.

ABQGOD: So, if we're just going to pretend that Biden will also lose a debate, can we just skip it and start voting?

NO! Not yours, can't have!

Do you know how many billions in ad revenue the media would lose if the debates weren't held or if it didn't appear "close"?

We can't have that now can we?

Plus, there is a good chance Ryan may just top Romney's 27 lies in 38 minutes.

I use "y'all" frequently and sometimes "Ain't". What does that make me?

Those words just eventually creep into your language when you live down here. You also eventually realize that y'all has verb tenses to denote who you are talking to.

I haven't lived in the South for 20 years and still use 'Yawl' on a daily basis.

Perfectly good second person, plural pronoun from where I sit, and highly preferable to 'Y'uns' or 'Use Guyz'.

Joe Biden is one of those rare politicians that is genuinely sincere at all times. Since caring about people is a character flaw in the eyes of the GOP, they hate him.

No, no, no, absolutely not. Maddow needs to remain outside of the actual operations. She's an analyst and a wonk and she's great at it. You don't need her in the white house, you need the person in the white house to be worried about her.

Something tells me Biden has been dismissed and underestimated a lot in his life... Yet, here he is, Vice-President of the United States and a fairly successful Senator prior to that.

'Couse, those achievements pale in comparison to being a "journalist" for Yahoo News....

Yeah, he says stupid stuff from time to time, but he's a pretty knowledgeable guy if you're paying attention. He seems to relish his role as the court jester, as well.

*shrug* I don't have a problem with the guy, at any rate.

Hey, someone who ends up being vice president is not a failure in life.

But near the bottom of his class in law school and a plagiarism scandal are notably absent from your defense.

Lord Dimwit: I never understood people who really dislike Biden. Thinking he's a gaffe machine because he says everything that's on his mind is true, but he's not a bad or evil person. He actually seems like a truly decent guy. He made no major investments and took no money from outside sources during his time in the Senate to avoid corruption. He still maintained his home in Delaware during his Senatorial term so that he could be close to his constituents. His speech to the families of fallen veterans is one of the truest, most sincere, and kindest speeches ever made by an American politician.

So yeah, I just don't get why people hate him. Disagree with him sure, but hate...just makes no sense to me.

Biden may be very free with saying what's on his mind, but I'm pretty sure that when attending a Holocaust memorial service at Auschwitz, he won't dress like he's going to a Packers game.

hillbillypharmacist: GAT_00: Those words just eventually creep into your language when you live down here. You also eventually realize that y'all has verb tenses to denote who you are talking to.

Y'all is far superior to 'you guys'. English doesn't have a decent plural second-person pronoun, though y'all I think is acceptable, and should enter proper English (though not of course in academic or professional settings).

Technically, "you" is the plural second-person pronoun. It's just that nobody uses "thou" anymore.

It would be fantastic if Biden showed up to the debates by driving a Harley onto stage and telling Ryan to go park it, "I've got a debate tonight with some kid who thinks that just because he's a young'un he can afford to mess with the bull - if you wax it there's an extra quarter in it for yah." Then he could tousle Ryan's hair and go shake hands with all the pretty ladies in the audience.

I believe the preferred spelling is yinz, and nothing drives my transplanted family crazier.

Except possibly "these ones", which I don't understand the hate for. In written English, sure, it's unnecessary redundancy that should be rewritten, but we have tons of redundancy in spoken English that we hardly notice.

\I reassure myself that at least I only correct people's grammar online, rather than interrupting someone in person while they're talking.

Maybe he reminds us of our dads. Joe Biden is 69, but the idea that he's an out-of-it charmer-all hair-band '80s heart with no indie-rock 2012 brains-seems to endear him to a Gen-X audience.

Yeah, us Gen-Xers are so gullible when it comes to internet memes. We need to grow up and vote for real candidates, like Allen West and Joe the Plumber.

I hope Biden doesn't over think it and just is himself. Yeah some people freak how he says things he shouldn't but I think it also gets a lot of people excited for him. Like in the DNC, his speech wasn't great but it riled people up.

Biden reminds me of the main gun on 18th century naval vessels.

Your ship would approach an enemy vessel; you'd exchange fire with the small guns. But they didn't always get the job done. So you'd have to break out the big gun. Yes, it was absolutely devastating when it hit its target. But every so often, it would blow up in your face instead of firing properly.

Biden is one of those cannons. And one of the most entertaining figures in modern politics, simply because of that.
