This. If I lobbied a lawsuit every time I felt demeaned by a boss, a certain speech therapist who belittled me in front of patients weekly would have it coming. So would a manager at Health Net Federal Services who told me to get my arse back to my desk, and she continued scrapbooking with another manager.

Is this her son?

I find this kind of believable, as every time I am in WalMart, there are 26 lanes with only three of them open. If the customers can't find a manager to open another lane, they're most likely in the back cursing out the rest of the cashiers.

2012-10-11 02:13:43 PM
Good luck collecting on that.

"verbal abuse and humiliation on the job"... Yeah, that's called "any job". Get over it.

London is Ontario's Walmart. How fitting.

2012-10-11 02:17:52 PM
Is it even possible to work at Wal-Mart and NOT be humiliated?

2012-10-11 02:18:28 PM
I'm sure this woman deserves over a million dollars for being chastised by an asshole boss.
Sure she could have quit, but where could she go to make Wal-Mart levels of pay?

Barnstormer: "verbal abuse and humiliation on the job"... Yeah, that's called "any job". Get over it.

didn't rtfa...was this abuse by the customers or the coworkers/management

because in pretty much any job dealing with the public, you WILL get verbally abused and humiliated, especially by the public. you can either let it slide or quit

Or apparently you can get bootstrappy and make some money off of it.

If I had a million everytime I got shiat from my boss, I might voting for Romney instead.

Thank you. And where is the FARK do they get $1.46M for 6 months on the job? Let's see, we'll assume 30 hours per week for 6 months - round numbers = $1870 per hour. I would let king kong rape my best friend's ass for that kind of money. It will get overturned, or at the very least substantially reduced.

I put up with crap like "old man", "gramps", "don't asign it to Dave, we don't have that long", etc for the last year before I retired. I didn't sue, 'cause it was true :-)

I smell a 'scheme' on here part... I mean, nobody works in retail, especially a Walmart, for 7 months, if they're being constantly belittled, insulted, and humiliated. She probably smelled a potential cash settlement, and stuck around until she felt she had enough proof... Anyone with ANY dignity and a brain, gets out of there ASAP.

CSB -

I used to work in Joliet, IL, for a sign shop owned and run by a 60-something-year-old ornery retired marine. Think 'Clint Eastwood from Gran Torino' and you're getting close.. This guy took it a step further and pretty much had no tact filter.

He'd regularly call me a: Moron, idiot, dumbass, etc.. "What, are you retarded or something?" mocked my choice of music, etc.. Telling him I didn't appreciate the insults did little to change things.. he'd be back at it again by the end of the day.

After about a month-and-a-half of it, I was done.. I would have quit on the spot, but I decided I wanted to pay it back, so I waited a bit..

Cut to 2 or 3 weeks later - the shop had picked up a very important job re-skinning the Joliet Police D.A.R.E. vehicles, and a few others.. roughly a dozen vehicles.. and they all had to get done the same day - a Friday.

Guess who just decided not to show up Friday.. or take any phone calls from the boss, or the shop. Yup.

Come Monday morning, I showed up about 30 minutes late and the boss was furious.. let me have it for about 10 minutes straight. I listened patiently and calmly to all of it, including the swearing, cursing, insulting, etc.. and then when he was done I just quietly said "And you wonder why I didn't show up. Moron!"

.. and left.

/ I hear he lost the D.A.R.E. account.

I think that's the point of the SUN piece. This comes off as sounding like "got yelled at, want money for feelings". Thus feeding the appetites of Charles Adler crowd. A quick google news search for the lady's name brought back allegations of physical abuse, sexism and pressure to falsify inspection reports under threat.

I saw worse things to the people under me and they say even worse things to me and throw footballs at my head.

I havent had much of a problem with bosses calling me names I jsut didnt care. The thing that pisses me off the most is when they talk to me like I'm 5 years old.

Yeah, jobs grow on trees, she surely wouldn't have a hard time finding a job and possibly end up homeless if she quit this one. That never happens. Employers should be able to do whatever they want to their employees. And punitive damages obviously shouldn't exist, because little people don't deserve that kind of money. That that is completely beside the point is, uh...

Look over there! It's a welfare mom who somehow owns a cell phone! BURN HER!!!111!!

FIrst, you can look for a job without quitting the one you currently hold.
No, employers should not be able to abuse employees. If the employee sucks that bed, you just fire them.
Excessive punitive damages are a joke. They don't hurt the large corporations. The cost get passed on to the consumers, ultimately hurting the little people with higher prices.

The only people that really win here are the attorneys.

Yeah i'm sure wal-mart doesn't set prices based on what brings in the most revenue, regardless of expenses. That would be dumb.

I've known people who retired from Walmart as millionaires. Regular hourly store workers. They got in on the stock thing early and worked for 20 years. By the end they had a million.

They didn't become millionaires because they worked as regular hourly store workers, however. They became millionaires because of the stock, which anyone could have done if they had gotten in early enough.

Most were awarded the stock through work though. I know what he's referring to, being an ex assistant manager with Walmart.

You think hourly employees have it bad? You have no idea what the slave labor known as assistant managers has to put up with.

I'm wondering how much this lady will actually end up with. If a large chunk of this get set aside in the appeal, then it was pretty much all for nothing.

I bet she will be lucky to get a 1/4 of that 1.4mil judgement.
