Brubold: vpb: TheBeastOfYuccaFlats: At some point we're gonna realize as a nation that Americans can potentially actually die when stationed in dangerous countries.

Especially if you don't want to pay for their security because you don't like their boss.

The woman that made the decision to not send additional security to Libya was asked point blank yesterday if the budget was a reason she didn't. She said, "No, sir."

But keep farking that chicken.

But...but...but....Republicans!!

Right after we blame Obama for it.

And we'll do that right after we vote to reduce funding for embassy security. Damn, it feels good to be a G(OP)angster!

Right. No money for extra security but plenty for new cars in Vienna. Your talking point is nonsense. Budgets notwithstanding, State Dept had plenty of money to beef up security in embassy hotspots. Instead, they bought new Chevy Volts and gear for such critical embassys as Vienna. This dog won't hunt.

Why do you hate America? Of course we needed those cars, according to your very own article, we had plenty of unarmed $4 an hour guards on duty.

Geez, Americans and their high expectations. Go live in the real world some time.

SlothB77: This is just more evidence that these embassy attacks are planned terrorist attacks and not impromptu riots, which is the template the Admin was toting.

People are upset the Admin lied about the Libya attack.

If the admin knew everything about the attacks from the begining you'd be claiming they knew it was coming and did nothing. They didn't know everything about the attacks until about a week after so you're claiming they lied about not knowing.

You mean if the admin was warned ahead of time as is now known?

That it had nothing to do with the video as you moon-bats kept professing?

Yeah, i guess the $44,900,000,000 budget wasn't enough to put 5 extra guys in a known hostile environment. Ohhhh the budget cuts!!!!

Arkanaut: whistleridge: It's all about perspective. For example:

More Americans died in one day in one minor Civil War battle that no one but historians, Civil War buffs and residents of Richmond VA remember than have died thus far in all of Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

Or consider that pretty much no one remembers the worst tragedy in NYC prior to 9/11, even though a greater percentage of the city's population died then (1,300 out of 3,400,000, versus 3,000 out of 10,000,000).

Don't get me wrong: I think it's an excellent thing that we cherish each life so dearly, and I in no way want to return to a time where 1.5 million people die in a single battle. But at the same time, there are 300,000,000 of us, and death is inevitably at the end of life. There's no point in pretending otherwise. These things happen.

Also, over 30,000 people die every year, ten times as many people as the number that died on 9/11/01; and yet we've spent over $1 trillion on wars that may or may not be even related to the 9/11 attacks, but these days Congress will throw a fit if we try to spend that much money on repairing our highways, which will probably save as many lives (and definitely get fewer soldiers killed).

The teachers unions' and construction companies' lobbyists don't contribute to reelection coffers nearly as generously as those of the military-industrial complex. That's why they'd rather spend less money on things like education and roadway maintenance and more on things like fighter jets USAF neither needs nor wants, which has among its components: a red button manufactured in Tumbleweed County, Oklahoma; a button that's a slightly different shade of red, built in Wharrgarbl, Kentucky; the panel those buttons go on, courtesy of factory workers in The, Ohio; special, non-standard screws to hold that panel in place, made in Pendejo, California; and special screwdrivers for those non-standard screws, compliments of machinists in West Quahog, Connecticut.

I think Dept. of State needs to erect a few more billboards in Yemen (like we did in Libya) that promote Unity, Peace and working together. That, and a new visitors center, would head off a lot of trouble.

Thankfully this was not an American, just a hired hand. Phew, close one.

This was just an anomoly anyways, I mean who would guess Yemen could have any radicals or be prone to anti western views. That is just not something we would know.

Medea Benjamin of Code Pink recently gave a presentation wherein she stated that many Yemenis' cite drone strikes as a major prompter for violent protests in Yemen. I deeply, deeply disapprove of drone strikes. I believe that the CIA, in particular, should be stripped of all access to drones.

However, I will still vote for Obama because he is significantly less insane than Willard "Ground War with Iran Now" Romney. You Republicans drum up and nominate a genuine peace candidate and I will rejoin your ranks.

It's high time that America realize what we effectively have become (emperor of the world) and start enforcing our rule and benefitting from it. The misgotten belief that we can somehow rule while still being everyone's friend isn't going to end well, nor will we be able to we suddenly decide to stop ruling and befriend everyone again (ignoring that our society is going to need a healthy stream of oil for at a minimum the next quarter century).
