(Daily Mail)   Big Bird's salary? $314,000. Looks like President Obama wants to tax him more. Is Obama more concerned with Sesame Street characters than Wall Street?   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line 147

This is fark and the LSM, what do you expect?

Sesame Street toys rake in over a half billion a year and royalties on toys usually runs over 8 percent.

Nevermind the royalties and fees they get from books and other licensing.

No. Barack Obama is the one that mentioned firing Big Bird. Mitt Romney just talked about cutting off funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The whole Big Bird meme is completely and wholly a creation of Barackman Turner Obamadrive.

Well, since he's Big Bird AND Oscar the Grouch, if we're pretending the character gets paid rather than the person who does the voices, wouldn't we assume that he maybe makes under $200K?

I know you're going to say that "Oscar can't be making that kinda money...he lives in a trash can!" But maybe that's just his personal thing. He seems to dig it. Just because he doesn't use the money doesn't mean he's not earning it.

Tax returns from PBS's Sesame Workshop show that the television show shelled out at least $314,072 for the actor behind Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch.
That makes Caroll Spinney, who has played everyone's favorite yellow-feathered friend since 1969, a true blue member of the One Percent.

$314,072 is part of the 'one percent'?

Oooh, wait, this is the part where conservatives point out that Jim Henson was really wealthy, right? Because I've never figured out why that's important. I'm glad for the guy that he made a lot of money doing what he loved. I wish everyone could be that successful. People like myself don't hate rich people. We hate rich people who are self-righteous about their wealth and think it makes them better human beings who are deserving of our adulation.

The reality is that the only thing anyone has because of wealth is money. That may sound silly, but it's true. It's what you do with that money that defines you. And when you use it to bend all the rules in your favor and burn down the economy for your own personal gain, it makes you a greedy, dangerous asshole. In other words, it makes you a Republican.

I love how people associate Big Bird, who is owned by Jim Henson Productions and Sesame Workshop, with PBS, which is a separately-owned television station that airs Sesame Street episodes.

PBS doesn't own Sesame Street. The only reason why these stupid talking points are being used is because some out-of-touch multimillionaire associated PBS' public funding with Big Bird because he probably has no idea who actually owns the rights to Big Bird and the rest of the Sesame Street characters.

It's beyond stupid that this is even being talked about when we have drone assassinations, recent flareups in the middle east, police departments becoming militarized, rising corporate profits and executive pay with stagnant or falling worker wages, Fukushima belching out tens of thousands of gallons of highly radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean every day, expanded federal powers via the Patriot Act's extension/expansion and NDAA's indefinite detention language, no actual criminals on Wall St. being charged or arrested while thousands of protesters have been beaten and arrested for exercising their first amendment rights (and, of course, the continued wiping of the proverbial ass with the Constitution by the executive branch)...

Hell, the debate over whether Honey farking Boo Boo is exploitation or legitimate reality entertainment has more going for it than this Big Bird shiat.
