Today, Sealand makes money by selling aristocratic titles and hosting Internet servers.

How do they even get electricity on that island? Some kind of tidal generator?

So, is there some kind of succession set up or something?

The first thing I thought of Sealand was "What? Do they live in a shipping container?"

Aside from secretly planning to bomb it, that is.

They used to have a school for the blind, but the students fell into the sea. Then they created a soccer team, but they fell into the sea.

Seriously, wasn't this guy's platform attacked by German mercenaries in the 80s or something?

No,
When I first came here, this was all sea. Everyone said I was daft to takeover a platform in the sea, but I took it over all the same, just to show them. It sank into the sea. So I built a second one. That sank into the sea. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the sea. But the fourth one, the forth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest fortress platform in all of England.

1978. The "Prime Minister of Sealand" (maybe self-styled?) led a coup and had hired mercenaries. But Prince Roy re-claimed the platform and held the instigator on treason charges. Germany actually sent a diplomat to garner his release.

The real takeaway from all this - Sealand has streets?

Rest in peace sweet prince. I first heard your story on Real People when I was a kid and it sparked my imagination. You were one of the main reasons I started a pirate radio station in my youth and it was your spirit, as well as Poppa Neutrino and Tom Neale's, that guided me when I built my first boat. I lost another hero today.
