Some of us listen to music for amazing voices and Kelly has one. While I enjoy looking at eye-candy as much as the next guy, a 10 voice trumps a 10 in appearance where musicians are concerned, especially when most of the time you hear the performer you're not seeing them anyway. When you get them both, that's a bonus!

Who's the 'we' in this statement, exactly?

Gunderson: A) The voice is an instrument

I'd agree. But vocals is one of the few aspects of music where it's sufficient to just 'play well'.

Ever notice that really good guitarists in cover bands get no recognition? That's because it's not enough to be able to play someone else's material well. You need to be able to write also.

Most vocalists seem to get a pass on this aspect, especially when it comes to pop music. And, considering that most pop acts are essentially advertised as solo acts rather than any sort of band or collaborative effort, the implication is that that person is actually responsible for performing and writing.. and it's almost never the case.

She is a helluva singer. I saw her live and she was, by today's standards, un-farking-believeable. We've gotten so used to auto-tune we've forgotten what a real singer sounds like. She can actually hit the right notes when she's supposed to. That puts her ahead of 98% of the current pop market. She might also be the most grounded pop star out there today.

She's also chunky, but I can roll with that. Get it? GET IT? ROLL? HAHAHA!

From what I understand, she's self-taught on guitar and uses it when she writes but isn't comfortable enough to play on stage. She has several many writing credits to her name as well. Some of her biggest hits she's at least co-written and while she's a pretty big star, most of the people she has co-written with wouldn't give her unearned credit. There's a reason that she along with Carrie Underwood are the only real big successes as winners to come out of AI and that's because they can sing. She auditioned for AI on a whim, pushed into it by her friends since the auditions were in her hometown and not many people even knew about the show since it was season 1. She did the whole "move to LA, give everyone your demo, live poor" thing too. She doesn't use auto-tune, she doesn't lipsync on tour, she just sings. Some of the best voices of this and other generations weren't writers but took what was written and gave it an amazing voice.

The worst kind of fat for women has to be the one where your arms and legs keep getting bigger but your boobs stay the same size.
