When I was a kid, we used to play catch with tennis balls soaked in lighter-fluid. The loser was whoever got the melting ball stuck to their hand.

Yes, 13-year-olds are stupid.

We stopped doing that when we realized it was a lot of fun to shoot bottle-rockets at each other.

Yes, 14-year-olds are stupid. And they stay stupid until well into their 40s.

Kids are awesome. What would be more awesome is if this were televised, in fact, if there were a league, at the pro level. And why limit the ball with the pyrotechnics? Perhaps geysers on the field can randomly erupt during play, and if a goal is scored, lava would erupt from the opposing goal.

I'd watch that.

We used tennis balls and raid prior to graduating to those really large tennis balls and gasoline.

Usually worst thing that would happen is you would burn the hair off your leg/arm/head or somesuch

Maybe we were a little smarter when I was a kid. We played street hockey with the flaming tennis ball. Then again, we tried to blow up a hornets nest with firecrackers once. I guess we didn't realize you can't outrun angry hornets.

Probably because it doesn't cost almost anything to get a flat field, a pair of cones for goals, and a ball. Handegg is super expensive what with the gear needed, basketball requires non-trivial setup of goals and pavement/other hardtop for dribbling, and baseball is super boring.

So yeah. Soccer is extremely cheap to play.

Oh yes. We regularly would have BB gun fights. No goggles. We would literally peak around a corner with only our face and our BB guns as a potential target. Once a BB ricocheted off my forehead it then dawned on me this might be a bad idea. The age of 14 is Darwin's gene pool elimination round.

We used goggles, but a friend of mine did lose a tooth to a BB-strike.
I'm not sure what cuss-words he was yelling, but whatever he said wilted all the plants for a 7-foot radius and killed two yellowjackets.

I always thought that the "10 feet tall and bulletproof" didn't really kick in until 16. That added the element of 2000 pounds of high-speed metal to under-brained and over-hormoned.
