Since we're here... I don't get the brony. My daughter watches quite a few different kids' shows, including My Little Pony. I mean, it's fine. It's not Dora or any of that bullshiat but it's indistinguishable from stuff like Olivia and not nearly as entertaining as Phineas and Ferb.

Now, Phineas and Ferb I could see as something that adults could get into but My Little Pony? Just don't get it.

I'm not so concerned about why anyone likes that show. What I want to know is who the first guy was that risked being ridiculed by the whole internet and said, "You know what? I DO like MLP. I do!"

The next time you write it, pay close attention. My Little Pony is created and written by Lauren Faust, wife of the guy who made the Powerpuff Girls. Meaning: there's LOTS of "adult-oriented" slapstick and jokes that go over the kiddies' heads.

Example: most of the ponies are female. Young, athletic female. And they all have brands on their hind sections. Which is fine for horses, that used to be a common practice. But it's also an adult nod to the tattoos a lot of the women in my generation have, usually on their lower body.

It was a thread on 4chan's /co/ (animation) board - most went in expecting it to be terrible and several people had to admit they did like it and wanted to see episode 2 (the first episode ends on a cliffhanger). I've seen a screenshot of it floating around but I'm not sure where to find it.

I love the show because it's a "girl's" cartoon that isn't stupid and all about make-up and boys.

In fact, they do have a fashion plate character BUT they turned her into an artist who wants to hit it big. They encourage the shy one to be more assertive and there are 2 tomboyish characters. I also like that the one with a crush is a boy character, not a girl.

One of my favorite episodes is the Gala episode - the finale of Season 1. It basically turns the whole obsession with prom/weddings in modern culture on it's head.

Not only that, but there are a lot of darker themes at work when you apply fridge logic to it. MLP:FiM gives us plenty of Nightmare Fuel.

images1.wikia.nocookie.net

This charming little fella is named Discord. He's a spirit of Chaos. Voiced by none other than Q Himself, John De Lancie.

Discord mind-rapes the Mane 6, for lack of a better word. Not only does he force out the dark sides of them, but it's heavily implied during the opening episodes of the second season that they are trapped inside of their own bodies, aware of their darker psyches taking over and treating each other horrifically. Fanfics and Fridge Logic make this worse.

Season One's opening episodes had Nightmare Moon, an emotional Parasite brought into manifest by Luna's jealosy of her sister, and of people not enjoying her night. Not only was Luna painfully aware of the atrocities that she commited as Nightmare Moon, and lingered alone for over 1000 years on a celestial body where she could neither feel warmth, eat, or even breathe - basically a state of living death - but she wanted to bring about "Nighttime Eternal". Which sounds storybook evil, until you realize that means the death of every plant, animal, and sentient being on Equestria from starvation.

It's very much an adult fridge logic show.

It's a nerd thing.

Don't get me wrong. I *like* MLP, but I'm not zealous about it. The memes sometimes crack me up (especially when combined with Spidermeme). And, for whatever reason, Hasbro makes nods to the geek community with references to Doctor Who, The Big Lebowski, and the whole "Derp" thing that's sweeping the internet. I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg, though.

Beat me to it.

Sometimes it's OK to sacrifice consistency for better pacing or to make a funny scene work, because by the time the viewer figures out what was wrong, the show's over. For example, suppose Twilight and Applejack have each grabbed one end of a long rope in their mouths, and while chasing their target, run past the opposite sides of Flut^H^H^H^Ha tree. The laws of cartoon physics are clear: any two characters, who hold onto a rope while chasing someone through a forest, must invariably end up like this.

images2.wikia.nocookie.net

By the time you get to the fridge to crack open another cold cider for the next episode, you remember that Twilight can teleport herself over short distances at will. The only reason she didn't teleport herself out of this little predicament was... *fridge logic* ...let us never speak of this again.

Since she's in direct contact with the ropes and the tree, I wouldn't think she could, short of teleporting the whole tree around.

Usually the things she's enchanting gradually become magically charged, yielding a violet aura. It would be hard for a magical charge to permeate though something as massive as a tree.

Well, yes, her magical talent IS magic. She seems to be second only to the royal family when it comes to magic... and Princess Celestia has had her ass handed to her enough that Twilight Sparkle just may be stronger at this point.

If you're refing to the Season 2 closer, I disagree. Queen whatsherface was at full power, being charged up by Shining Armor's love for Candance (Which then plays into the Dues ex Erosia at teh ending). Of course, not even whatsherqueenbiatch thought she'd win against Celestia that time.

Or did you mean during Luna's time as Nightmare Moon? Luna was supposed to be Tia's equal. And Discord, well

It's Q.
