cameroncrazy1984: HowDareYouCallMeAHoser: Are you suggesting that each consulate and embassy is allotted a certain amount of security and the State Department has no ability to shift resources from one place to another? Like there was just nothing that anyone could have done when they were WARNED that 9/11 anniversary attacks were likely all over the Arab world. And the first statements from the O admin. was based on what they knew at the time, and honest.

I've always hated you because you use every high school debate tactic you can to avoid being perceived as wrong. That's OK, you still look like a hero to the retards that frequent this place. Quite a legacy.

Please prove that embassy security can be moved around when the budget is cut by 4% then. You seem to think it's certainly possible. You must have some evidence then, don't you? Come on, you must have ONE thing to cite that says it's possible to move embassy security around with the budget the way it is now. Anything?

How's that? How so? Regarding what? Thanks for contributing.

Regarding what? Making posts and ludicrous statements regarding things about which you know exactly nothing. You're not State Department, you're not security, and you sure as hell don't have a military background. Yet you mouth off about what the Obama administration "should have known" or what our "defense budget" should have bought us, or what the people knew or didn't know at the time, in the immediate aftermath, or now.

That's what being a dick is.

People who are not dicks ask questions. People who are not dicks try to understand and become educated on a subject. People who are not dicks draw parallels between what they have experienced and try to draw reasonable conclusions about the unbelievable complexity of the real world.

You do none of these things. You are a dick.

U.S. increases embassy security worldwide after Libya attack

Here's my favorite part of that article.

"No U.S. Marines were guarding the consulate at the time of the attack, according to U.S. officials. But that is not necessarily unusual, Burton said.

"Having the Marines can be viewed as politically sensitive at times," Burton said.

It can also raise the profile of an installation and invite unwanted attention or attacks, he said."

Another part:

"The United States deployed a group of Marines called a Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team to Libya to help secure U.S. facilities, two U.S. officials said Wednesday"

These would not be part of normal diplomatic security. They only are activated after the embassy is attacked. Care to try again?

Sorry for the trim.

I think allowing a consulate to be attacked, resulting in four deaths, on Sept 11, after multiple requests for increased security, is not something to campaign on. It also doesn't make the "Arab Spring" failure look much better.

The media may have been in the fog of war, but the leader of the most powerful nation on earth is not. The State Department is now admitting that it started with explosions and gunfire. The people at the consulate checked the security cameras and saw an armed mob attacking. Every survivor was certainly being debriefed the next day.

Do you really believe the Obama admin. is just now learning the facts, a month after the fact? I guess our $600B defense budget is not buying all the high tech toys I thought it was. DARPA should stop developing cockroach cams and focus on getting Obama networked to the off the shelf consumer electronics we use to monitor our properties in war zones.

"Arab Spring Failure???

You do realize that almost half a billion people that were living in brutal, repressive dictatorships in 2008 are now living in democracies, don't you?

You still didn't mention why Obama would go against his own political best interests, engaging in this alleged conspiracy in order to a push a storyline that was LESS politically beneficial to him.

Look, you're asking me to believe a ridiculously convoluted scheme by the white house to push an unfavorable narrative, and you're doing in the absence of even a shred of evidence to support your conspiracy theory, and your doing it in the presence of a much simpler and much more likely reality. \We're hearing hoofbeats and you're saying "unicorn."

I guess we don't need this context either.

I see what you're saying, but I've got to say that that story, and the comments, make my brain hurt. You'd think that those 147 Republicans did it just because the mean ol' Dems made them, or something. Hey, more Dems voted for it, so it's all the Dems' fault, vote them out and replace them with Republicans! Don't pay attention to this Republican who explained why it happened, it's a smear campaign to hurt our chances in the polls!

Yeah...I think we need some more independents in government. If your political position is that you have to shift all the blame onto the other guys, because there's an election coming up, and the issue deals with the deaths of decent people, someone needs to tell you to go pound sand.

I don't understand the mindset that leads people to think that voting in all one party, or another, will change things. We keep swinging back and forth, and very little changes; they just keep growing the government, they keep passing oppressive laws, they have no respect for the Constitution or the principles the country were founded on, and I'm not talking about just one party.

you shift all the blame to the other side... and it goes back and forth keeping moderates in the middle off balance. EXACTLY like my now patented teeter-totter analogy!

Again, R's and D's agree on some things. like growing gov, oppressing liberties, and ignoring whichever parts of the constitution are inconvenient at the time. They have people so wound up on the unsolvable issues that no one seems to notice. Abortion will never have consensus, gay rights will never have consensus, etc... we focus on these because the media is paid to keep up the firestorm to distract us from the areas in which R and D are colluding to rob the public and enrich themselves while treating citizens as a doormat or worse. Our incarceration rate is through the roof and we can't pay our own bills. We have issues that could be solved if we'd start focusing on problems that MIGHT be able to be solved.

This thread exists because 2 Romney advisers stopped high-fiving each other for long enough to do the electoral math, then in their panic, they opened a newspaper, found something that sounded vaguely like the Iran Hostage Crisis, and decided to try and see if it stuck.

I've read TFA, several articles even, and I've concluded that there is a reason that you can't provide even a shred of evidence of any wrongdoing or intent to deceive.

From you, and from the TFA, I just keeping hearing the classic Donald Trump cop-out "I don't know if it's true, but wouldn't it be big news if it were?" That's not enough for me, and if you were really thinking critically about the situation and didn't have some kind of forgone conclusion formed by your feelings about Obama, I suspect it wouldn't be enough for you either.

And those people had cause to believe that it wasn't protest-related because of...what, again? I don't know why it matters. Why are you so focused on the fact that the White House was tempered and didn't declare it a terrorist attack immediately but waited for sure confirmation before determining that it wasn't just a protest but a coordinated terror attack? What's the difference? It doesn't change a single thing that happened. It doesn't help us keep it from happening again. It doesn't help Obama's position to say it was one or the other. Either way it was a terrible day.

No, both sides are not equally bad. Stop pretending that

The Republicans and Democrats are more alike than unalike. Yes, there are distinct differences in the parties' political platforms. It all looks very clear on paper. But for one who has studied the actions and accomplishments of the two major political parties over my lifetime, I have become disillusioned to the point where I cannot accept anything a politician says at his/her word. I place high value on a person's character, particularly on honesty and trustworthiness. I demand that in the person that I vote to represent me. I want a straight-talker, who will tell me what I need to hear, no matter whether I will like what I hear.

To my jaundiced eye and mind, the primary goal of the two major parties is not to pursue and promote the betterment of the country and the people who live in it, but to remain in power. The parties feign ill will toward one another on many an issue, preying on people's base emotions to divide them, influence them, and to cultivate support to one base or the other. It is a game of give-and-take that is re-enacted every election period. Yet the two major parties will come together and present an united front, whenever threatened by the emergence of a third political party.

Judge Napolitano delivers a monologue " What If " on his Freedom Watch show (Fox Business News), which I find insightful and inquisitive. Review the video for yourself on YouTube. The monologue expresses how I feel about our government more eloquently than I ever could: Link

In closing, my own little words of wisdom: Spend time and effort promoting and explaining your own position or goals, versus only disparaging those of the opposition. Where possible, frame your critique of another's position or goals in a constructive manner, so people can gain insight from your argument. Acknowledge and respect a difference of opinion. Avoid forms of slander (e.g. name-calling ); this is a sign of immaturity.

Finally, go out and vote for the person that you wish to represent you. Make a choice for which you can be proud. Make a stand. The country cannot improve if its citizens settle for the "lesser of two evils".

Yup. In fact we should be cutting every year. 16 trillion is a lot of money to pay back. Or the fed can keep doing its thing and my '90 Camry will eventually be worth the 25K I owe in student loans.

These people are not simply bad at politics, they are evil incarnate... the will dance on the bodies they create to make their way into more power.

Terrorists on American soil kill 3,000+ citizens on 9/11 - totally not the republican president's fault. Don't even say that it is.

Chaffetz and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, claim those concerns were ignored.

"It seems to be a coordinated effort between the White House and the State Department, from Secretary [Hillary] Clinton to President Obama's White House," Chaffetz told Fox and Friends on Tuesday.

How do you coordinate to ignore something?

Anyhoo, this is going precisely nowhere and will actually blow up in Issa's face if he pushes it too hard. Should have learned from his Fast & Furious failure.

plewis: GoSlash27: Did the Republicans vote to cut State Department funding?
Yup.
Did that *in any way* affect the outcome of the Benghazi consulate's request for additional security?
Nope.

/This thread is shameful
You do realize that it takes money to beef up security, right? The White house and the state department can only work with what they are given by congress, right?

You are either a troll or shamefully stupid.

How were you were able to pick my comment out of the thread while somehow missing all of the other posts that refute your argument? Does that require special glasses? Or did you actually see them and choose to ignore them in order to give yourself an excuse to lash out at me?
I suspect it's the second option, which (ironically) would reinforce my point; people on here will stoop to almost any level to score a cheap political point, which makes them just as reprehensible as their opponents.

it doesn't matter that they had plenty of funds
it wouldn't matter if proposed changes were to be made in 2013
it doesn't matter if the people there asked for assistance before the incident, and got nada
it wouldn't matter if the rich people placed in authority by potus completely dropped the ball
it doesn't matter that dems are now pretending to be big fans of spending $ on the military

It's the fault of the republicans
and probably the jews
and satan

The budget is so minuscule that this year...

"on May 7, the State Department authorized the U.S. embassy in Vienna to purchase a $108,000 electric vehicle charging station for the embassy motor pool's new Chevrolet Volts. The purchase was a part of the State Department's "Energy Efficiency Sweep of Europe" initiative, which included hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on green program expenditures at various U.S. Embassies."

So how could they possibly have enough money for security when they have to buy charging stations?

I saw the same thing... no hesitation on his part, he said it loudly and with confidence.

Oh look, yet another idiot who doesn't understand what budgeting is.

spamdog: Oh dear. Lt. Cheese Weasel is in full-on election bullshiat mode. He knows he's being dishonest, but doesn't care.

Him amongst others.

It's the only thing that's working for them, so why not?

Remind me again who was dancing on the graves of the dead to blame Bush on 9/12?
