SquiggsIN: Anyone dumb enough to vote for Democrats or Republicans at this point should be shot.

They are both fine with taking public money to enrich the elite regardless of which party they are donating to. It's a joke that people think they are mutually exclusive. They agree on turning public wealth (taxes) into private wealth (kickbacks to their richest donors). They agree on policing the public and diminishing civil liberties under the guise of national security.

D and R are like 2 ends of a teeter totter. the people furthest from the center scream the loudest and jump up and down just to keep the majority of people near the middle off balance and confused. And it works for all you sheep who think either party has your best interests in mind.

James F. Campbell: theMightyRegeya: Abox: James F. Campbell: Nobody cares. The Republicans could vote to fund live kitten eating, and the only ones who will take flak for it are the Democrats. The Republicans can say or do anything -- anything -- and it won't affect them.

That's pretty much it. Romney enacted an assault weapons ban in Massachusettes. Obama allowed more concealed carry access. Guess who the NRA is endorsing.

Reality doesn't seem to matter anymore.

We're living in a post-reality world.

reality is that R's and D's scream the loudest about the issues that they know there is no possibility of building consensus in regard to. Things like immigration, abortion, gay rights, etc. get focused on b/c they realized long ago that people would focus on those things and be afraid of the opposite party more than they'd investigate what "their" party actual supports and does. People vote against the "wrong" party as much as they vote for a party they support. We should be far more worried about where D's and R's agree than where they disagree but, most of us are too busy worrying about those things that we'll never be able to compromise or agree to disagree on.

Shaggy_C: MyRandomName: Seeing as State Department funding is up nearly 40% since 2009....

2012 - 53.4 Billion
2009 - 38.3 Billion

I'm sure the extra 1.5 billion they requested would have saved Stevens.

So this is all Obama's fault

Whatever.

If it's my job to ensure your safety, dollars mean nothing.

Mr. Obama dropped the ball here.

Is it reason to oust him? No.

But the truth is there.

Accept it.

Lando Lincoln: GoSlash27: Did the Republicans vote to cut State Department funding?
Yup.
Did that *in any way* affect the outcome of the Benghazi consulate's request for additional security?
Nope.

/This thread is shameful

Would extra security have stopped guys with rocket launchers?
Nope.

Not this time, but I'm sure congress is ready to wheel out a bunch of no-bid contracts for small-scale missile defense grids now.

Lando Lincoln: ecl: Why don't the embassies have tanks?

This was a consulate, not an embassy. Our embassies are well protected. Consulates are like little satellite offices and don't have protection like embassies do.

My question is, why was this guy at a consulate instead of the embassy on 9/11? He must have known that this would a rather risky day to be running around outside of the embassy. He didn't play it safe, and he paid the price. I sure wish he hadn't.

So the Ambassador should have known but Obama and the smartest woman in politics (our Secretary of State) didn't know?

You know who I blame for this? Prescott Bush. Dubya's granddaddy who has been dead for 40 years. He was a banker then he was the guy that controlled defense contract spending for the Federal Government.

Notice his progeny both made sure defense contractors (and the banks who finance the government's projects they undertake) were well taken care of during their time in the white house. Without the massive amount of military spending that has led to our world-policing activities over the last half century we wouldn't have problems with terrorists who are ticked off that we've been meddling in their affairs. Pulling strings in their puppet governments to keep OUR citizens supplied with the products we want at the prices we want them at tends to be the source of most of the anger directed our way. They just also happen to hate us for not being like them but that isn't new to this century.

(this isn't anti-republican, i hate democrats too. just pointing out this particular set of events set in motion by a man long-since dead)

sithon: Three alts use the word shamefull . I wonder if you are a volunteer, or you get paid to carry GOP water.

Speaking strictly for myself as one of your alleged "alts":
1) Mitt Romney is an ass-clown.
2) The word "shameful" is as apt a description of this thread as anything else that comes to mind.

Even the most pathetically partisan participants in this thread recognize it for what it is; a craven attempt to use the deaths of these people to further a political agenda. The fact that it's directed at a group that has stooped to the same tactics to further their political agenda does not excuse it.
Subby and all the bandwagoneers should be deeply ashamed of themselves for even trying this. The fact that they're not just goes to show how much like their Republican counterparts they actually are.

This was an admirable pitch about 9 months ago, but either a D or R is going to get elected president in November.

"The majority of people near the middle" have to look right to see either candidate, and use a high powered telescope to see the other one.

Richard Saunders: Mr. Obama dropped the ball here.

How can you say that without knowing all of the facts? Maybe the State Department issued orders for all embassy personnel to be at the embassies instead of any consulates on 9/11, which would make complete sense, since the embassies are well protected and consulates are not. But the Libyan ambassador either didn't obey the order or couldn't obey the order due to other circumstances.

The 2012 Federal Budget was passed on December 23, 2011.

Good Day.

Another brain Fark fail. Embassy asked for more security, current administration, i.e. democrats refused. Had absolutely nothing to do with budget/funding. Then, as with Holder, Obama and guns to Mexico, they lied and tried to cover up the fact that they in fact knew the embassies were al quaeda targets.

2012-10-10 09:29:41 PM
Thats about right. They've been doing every thing they can to sabbotage this administration just so they can try to blame Obama for it. It's pretty guttless but also what I've come to expect from republicans.

I just hope Americans aren't stupid enough to fall for it.

Benghazi is what the Repubs have in lieu of an actual foreign policy plan of their own (pretty much will be same as it ever was/currently is). They will feast on the corpse of the dead ambassador right up to election day. The `narrative' is `Obama is weak/ineffectual' - it's the `Carter & hostages in Tehran' in a teacup.

U.S. security policy has pretty much been a hostage of lack of an energy policy -one that serves the Republic -, since `73 - the actors change, the lobbyists don't, and, here we are.

2012-10-10 09:31:08 PM

Mrbogey: So no one cares that specific security requests, which Republicans have no say in, were turned down for Libya? No one upset that the whole start of the attack was lied about by this administration?

Is it really the Republicans fault that the ambassador's security detail in Libya was smaller than security details that some members of the state department have stateside?

Yes. Everything bad that happens is the GOP's fault, no matter what. That is the fark way.

2012-10-10 09:32:10 PM

Shaggy_C: This entire argument hinges on a simple question: Did they provide enough of a budget for the embassy to have more security than it did on the day of the attacks?

Actually the bigger question is: Why is Libya's security dropped when they could get security from another "safer" area?

ongbok: IHateLongIsland: The vote was to reduce funding for the year 2013. Last time I checked, we're not there yet. So....Jesus, libs are terrible.

For the past two years, House Republicans have continued to deprioritize the security forces protecting State Department personnel around the world. In fiscal year 2011, lawmakers shaved $128 million off of the administration's request for embassy security funding. House Republicans drained off even more funds in fiscal year 2012 -- cutting back on the department's request by $331 million.

Now who is terrible? You lying sack.
