That's pretty much it. Romney enacted an assault weapons ban in Massachusettes. Obama allowed more concealed carry access. Guess who the NRA is endorsing.

You must think Obama is a Republican then. He lied about some video for 10 days all the while having intelligence that it was a terrorist attack, just as the Libyan government had warned of for three days prior.

2012-10-10 08:26:28 PM
All I saw in the article is that the GOP reduced the requested funding, not what the absolute figures turned out to be. Was that money in fact essential or was it like cutting the bottom four toys off a kid's list of a hundred things he'd like from Santa? Indulging every agency's fantasy budget is a great path to huge deficits, which Democrats used to claim would be a bad thing when a Republican was in the White House.

2012-10-10 08:26:56 PM
Yeah, they only allocated $1.934 billion out of the $2.15billion the Obama administration was asking for.

I mean, how in the world could the State Department find any money at all to spend in Libya when they only have a little less than $2 billion to spend, total?

2012-10-10 08:27:07 PM

Shaggy_C: This entire argument hinges on a simple question: Did they provide enough of a budget for the embassy to have more security than it did on the day of the attacks?

Seeing as State Department funding is up nearly 40% since 2009....

2012 - 53.4 Billion
2009 - 38.3 Billion

I'm sure the extra 1.5 billion they requested would have saved Stevens.

Probably not.

But I will say, even though this seems like a legitimate complaint, it's hard to take the GOP seriously over it.

They've cried wolf too many damn times that it's hard to take them seriously when they do have a legitimate complaint.

That being said, how much more security do the Republicans think was needed to prevent something like this from happening?

BravadoGT: This would be relevant if the reason for the lack of security was a staff or resource shortage due to funding. But it had nothing to do with that. Rather--it was because the gatekeeper for such appeals (Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Programs Charlene Lamb, and backed by her superiors assistant secretary of State for diplomatic security Eric Boswell and the principal deputy assistant secretary for diplomatic security and director of the Diplomatic Security Service Scott P. Bultrowic) wanted to keep the U.S. security presence "artificially low," to promote the idea that Libya was stabilizing and safer.

Pretty lame attempt to try and dump this mess in the GOP's lap...

Why is this?

Because Big Money has convinced a critical mass of people that a representative government can do no good, and that if we destroy it, a golden age of liberty and freedom will ensue.

Exactly.

Anyone dumb enough to vote for Democrats or Republicans at this point should be shot.

They are both fine with taking public money to enrich the elite regardless of which party they are donating to. It's a joke that people think they are mutually exclusive. They agree on turning public wealth (taxes) into private wealth (kickbacks to their richest donors). They agree on policing the public and diminishing civil liberties under the guise of national security.

D and R are like 2 ends of a teeter totter. the people furthest from the center scream the loudest and jump up and down just to keep the majority of people near the middle off balance and confused. And it works for all you sheep who think either party has your best interests in mind.

This was a consulate, not an embassy. Our embassies are well protected. Consulates are like little satellite offices and don't have protection like embassies do.

My question is, why was this guy at a consulate instead of the embassy on 9/11? He must have known that this would a rather risky day to be running around outside of the embassy. He didn't play it safe, and he paid the price. I sure wish he hadn't.
