Why didn't the little bastard fly himself back to the ship? That bothered me even as a kid.

He DID have to call the ship. Why do you assume he could fly? Because he helped a guy on a bike defy gravity?

Yeah wtf is that about?

Some things I would be happier not knowing.

ET gave me nightmares as a kid and gave me a phobia about aliens that I still deal with. Knowing that it, ET, was a plant makes feel much better about it. Although I'm sure now I'll develop a fear of trees or tall grass.

So since one of the actors in the suit had no legs and was walking on his hands, does that mean Henry Thomas was talking to the guy's butt most of the time?

When reading the novelization as a kid I thought it was weird that in the book E.T. eats M&Ms rather than Reese's Pieces. Turns out Mars Inc turned down the producers of the movie when they suggested a product placement deal, so Hershey's jumped in. Don't think I had ever even seen a bag of Reese's Pieces before E.T. came out.

Here's another "Super 8" isn't the "Goonies" meet "ET". It's "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" meets "Cloverfield".

The one good thing to come out of ET was the best episode of Get A Life.

That explains a lot then. When the grumpy old man tells you to get off his lawn, he's not being a jerk, he's trying to save your life!

Yes. I understand if that's his only method of levitation, but he could've tried earlier.

i love e.t. so much (i was 6 when it came out and saw it twice at the movies) that 10 years ago during the 20 year anniversary, i purchased a talking e.t. doll at toys r us in kaiserslautern, germany.

the thing is 2 or 2.5 feet tall, and his chest and finger light up. he says 4 phrases IN GERMAN, and does the "oooooh" sound, and a burp. my almost-3-year-old son LOVES that thing.

funny thing is it's 10 years old and still going on the original batteries

E.T. was sent to Earth by Senator Grebleips to explore other expanses outside of the galaxy. Problem is, his ship abandoned him. He recognized the kid dressed as Yoda and thought it was someone from his home galaxy. His ability to levitate, finger touch and heal and all that other stuff is due to his midichlorian count.

Yes, it's all connected based on that one clip showing E.T.'s in the Galactic Senate in Episode One.

Ooh, I get to be "that guy" in a thread.

I have never seen E.T. When it came out the trailers just didn't interest me, and nothing since then has motivated me to watch it.

I'm surprised they didn't mention the appearance of E.T.'s species in the Senate chamber in The Phantom Menace.

Running in to say that E.T still scares me. And I hate him. And now I'm running away from this thread.

Those aren't batteries. Microfusion cells maybe, but not batteries. Also, does anyone recall the E.T. toy scene in Critters?

What is with all the people who are AFRAID of E.T.?!?! I saw it when I was a kid (1982, right? that would make me 11 at the time. I loved it. I read the book a bunch of times. I watched the movie about a dozen times. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

So who are these people who thought E.T. was scary, and continue to think that even as adults? WHAT are they taking away from this movie, or his appearance, that says "monster!" instead of "lovable alien"?

I can understand being deathly afraid of the Atari 2600 game, because that was evil, but the movie was charming, fun, and had a great insight to a kid's perspective.

I love scary movies, love being scared, totally happy with aliens not being cute... just never got over the trauma of E.T screaming in the closet or when he was all dead and horrible and white. I was 6.. so, impressionable, I guess.
