I don't know, but I'm sure you're going to show us.

The calculations for the unemployment have all sorts of defects, but at least it's an honest metric.
This move reminds me of when the Texas legislature voted to round off Pi to 3.

Fart_Machine: cretinbob: Yeah, since Whitewater turned out so well.....

Forget Whitewater. These tards were pushing that Clinton had Vince Foster assassinated back in the day. I'm totally shocked they'd push another conspiracy theory.

It's all they've got at this point. Limbaugh posits roughly 5-7 conspiracy theories per show, because he knows no one is going to call him on any of it publicly. It would be like calling out the daily globe for running one too many bat-boy stories at this point.

Mr. Coffee Nerves: Vodka Zombie: Aarontology: BSABSVR: I'm worried about the suburban riots if Obama wins period.

haha. Suburbanites rioting.

What're they gonna do? Mope in the Best Buy parking lot?

They're going to mass in the Panera parking lot and use the free WiFi to write lengthy screeds on their blogs.

"I parked my X5 in the fire lane in front of Ruby Tuesday's and REFUSED TO MOVE! Until lunch."

"I put up a sign in my front yard in clear violation of my HOA's by-laws!"

You know they are serious because they bolded the whole article.

Aarontology: Yeah, good luck with that.

Yup, what he said.

//It's like the GOP is just handing the Dems talking points. "Our opponents launched an investigation of basic math because it said something they didn't like". Is the GOP hoping to just make their actual positions so absurd that no Dem can finish describing them without dying of laughter-related suffocation?

MeinRS6: How do we know the revisions to these numbers are coming after the election? - Link

And when they are revised, the BLS will sound just like the Obama Admin does today on Libya. "We didn't lie. We were reporting on the information that we had." Except that's not really true in the case of Libya or in the case of the BLS, as numbers from the past indicate that a serious adjustment will need to be made.

I'm looking forward to 4 more years of you sounding "concerned". See you in November, Chad.

I want to see what they are willing to give up in the budget before they start the investigation. Somebody has to pay for it.

Hey , whatever happened in that Fast and Furious investigation???

// the only ones making any money are the lawyers...

How Stupid Do They Think We Are?

Obviously they think you're stupid enough to believe that unemployment went under 8% one month before the election, but not so dumb that you'd believe it went under 8% a year ago.

meat0918: Christ Almighty, these guys hate that America is doing better.

After all the hard work from Fox/GOP, from birth certificates to "fast and furious," nothing has gained the traction these people have been hoping for.

Apparently, the hearings on Libya haven't properly panicked the masses enough to suit the party ... so they're rolling the dice on this.

If the GOP hadn't spent the last four years being a bunch of petulant, nation-starving jerks with a "stop-Obama-at-all-costs" attitude, they might have managed to give their guy a clear lead for this election.

As it stands, their entire campaign boils down to "vote for Obama and we'll make your life hell for the next four years."

And they wonder why people don't respond to them ...

Luckily our law system doesn't let us investigate and harass people just because you don't like them and think they look suspicious. Well I guess it does. But that doesn't make it okay

Good call, because all those career statisticians care more about fudging a few fractions of a percentage point in this one election out of many they've run statistics on than they care about their career and reputation.

You think for a side that is steadily gaining ground this election, they wouldn't be so desperate as this article seems to suggest.

I remember liberals here warning Republicans that non-stop trivial stories focusing on arugula, mustard, and birth certificates would lead to average Americans tuning their criticism, even valid criticism, of Obama out.

I work at BLS (but not with the Current Employment Statistics program), and the apolitical environment there has always been very pleasing to me. Hell, we don't even have a politically-appointed commissioner right now. Investigate away.

When you take into account the millions of predictions that Rush makes that never come close to coming true, you'd come to accept that this particular once coming true is nothing more than the law of large numbers coming into play. In other words, dumb farking luck, blind coincidence, etc. Apparently people forget that the unemployment rate was 8.1% in friggin' JUNE and then went up two months in a row before coming back down again.

The total number of net new jobs created since Obama became President according to the BLS: 787,000.

What's that number for 8 years under Bush?

According to official GOP statistics, that number is somewhere between "B-b-b-but Bush!" and "Potato".

Why would something like this even be necessary?

You know how for the last 30 years, the republican party has been pushing a solution for torte reform where claimants to suits that are deemed "frivolous" must pay all the court costs?

Howsabout they put their money where there mouth is and put up some of those superpac billions for each of Darrell Issa's fishing expeditions that turn up NOTHING.

You probably know this already, but it's because the current Republican party cares 1000 times more about making Obama a one-term president than they do actually helping their constituents and improving the country.

They've been so blatant about it, it's almost like they came right out and said it ...

oh wait.

This! so many times over. Republicans have been telling this uneducated, easily swayed people for four years that Obama is evil. That he is a demon straight from hell sent to destroy everything they love.

If he wins. Again. Despite all this? Despite their fervent belief that god is on their side and justice is on their side and this USURPER cannot possibly be president because he is EVIL and WRONG and he is coming for their children and their families and their faith?

You can only bombard people with that message for so long, and then have them be disappointed in the results for so long, before someone snaps. Before a lot of people snap. This could get very, very ugly.

Of course, Republicans will blame Obama for the increased cost of Secret Service protection for the President.
