Yankees need a big start from Kuroda tonight. I do not want Hughes on the hill with the season on the line

2012-10-10 01:30:14 PM
I'm not sure those of us in Birdland have anymore nails to bite or hair to pull out.

2012-10-10 01:43:04 PM
Cards went up 1-0 in the 1st, now they have runners at the corners and no outs in the 2nd

2012-10-10 01:43:12 PM
Come on Cards! Let's get this done.

4 nothing Cards in the 3rd? yeah!

2012-10-10 01:55:00 PM
Hoping Yankees can pull off a victory tonight. Whoever loses this one will be in a tight spot but Yanks got the home advantage at least.

I was cheering for the Reds (lived in Cinci for a few years), but after that late error it would be interesting to see a complete Giants comeback despite my hate for them.

I want the Nats to win because of reasons.

I hope the Tigers and the A's find a way to both lose. Neither advance.

I have the Cardinals radio feed on XM & while i realize there's a certain amount of homerism that goes with the territory, these guys out Hawk-ing Hawk Harrelson!

Washington fans were compared disdainfully to Cardinal fans, "The greatest in history." Really?

Also, fans were encouraged to buy NLCS Championship tickets, even tho "We don't know who the Redbirds will be playing yet." Wow.

I want to watch baseball. I love baseball.

Why am I being punished for loving baseball?

Why must I listen to Bob Costas?

Not sure how other teams do things, but the Rangers actually had their pre-sale for World Series tickets before the regular season was even over.

Tempt fate, and fate responds.

I've had the MLB audio package for years....and this sounds no different than any radio announcer for any time I've listened to. Not defending the homerism because it bugs me as well, but it's a staple of all hometown radio broadcasters from what I've heard.

You also have to understand that Mike Shannon--in addition to having played for the Cardinals--has probably been hitting the sauce since about 9 AM as well......so take anything and everything he says with piles of salt.

Yes. Hell, the Pirates were selling NLDS tickets over a month before the season ended. It's standard practice.

I think the original point though is the way it was said by the announcer assumed the Cardinals would win the NLDS, rather than "Though we don't know who the Cardinals will be playing should they advance."

I'm not seeing the big deal, but to each their own.

So you must have missed Chris Berman calling the Reds-Giants game last night on the ESPN national feed. Tom Jackson stopped by one inning. No, I'm not kidding. It was like a mini-Sunday Countdown in there.

At least it wasn't Shoe Pisser.

Orioles ALCS tickets went on sale Monday. People with season tickets could buy them a few weeks earlier.

Looks like no rain delay tonight. Which means I might actually see the end of the Yankee game.

2012-10-10 02:36:55 PM

Rex_Banner: Hughes

Wouldn't they tow CC back out there? No way could Girardi justify depending on Hughes.

2012-10-10 02:41:15 PM
When did Chris Carpenter learn to hit? He's 2-2 with a single and a double so far off Jackson. Hopefully they can get him home and tack on another.

How's that Strasburg benching working out for you Davy?

yeah, i agree. especially with the bold qualifying phrase. i can't see how that is being a homer. it's completely within the realm of completely f*cking normal.

yeah, i've bought playoff tix for the hawks and the bulls here in chicago when it wasn't clear if they'd be advancing. it's just how it's done.

I'm in that camp - if you lose game 3, throw CC in game 4. That probably won't happen though because it would leave game 5 to a 106 year old Andy Pettitte on just 3 days rest. Which, if it were up to me, would be fine. But Girardi will be a little more cautious than that

Oh man, I'm nervous about tonight. Kuroda has been great at times but somewhat inconsistent. And as has been said, the Yankees really don't want Hughes on the mound in an elimination game. I'm not worried about Baltimore's regular season record in the Bronx, but I am worried that they're showing a lot of spirit and not just rolling over for the Yankees. Here's hoping tonight the Bombers can hit a few deep and send the Orioles' bullpen into a tailspin.

The Cardinals currently up on Washington pleases me.

The way it reads, that qualifying phrase was from Shrugging Atlas, demonstrating how the announcer didn't sound. In which case, that would absolutely be being a homer on the part of the announcer.

2012-10-10 02:52:55 PM
Baltimore has won 2 of 3 every time they've played at New York this season...let's not let this be the first time they don't.

/Unless the O's win 2 out of 2 & get to stop playing then. I'm okay with that.

A pitcher hitting for the cycle in a playoff game would be the greatest thing that ever happened

well, in any event, i think it's their job to be homers.

Multiple short rest starts of intense work are nothing new to him. But I will admit that I thought there had already been 3 games.

/sorry its da football season

idesofmarch: Yup, and he got two outs before they pulled him.

That's what I thought I remembered. After a 2 and a half hour rain delay with nothing to do but drink, then a 5 run top of the ninth with nothing to do but drink, I couldn't remember clearly.

Anyway, my point is, I doubt CC will start another game on only 3 days rest after pitching essentially a full game his last outing.

Very very nervous about tonight, hoping Kuroda is Good Kuroda. In other news, these "fresh blood" teams have so far pretty much been accompanied by the sound of air escaping a balloon.

Holy cripes -- dodged a bullet there and didn't even realize it.

Thank FSM for the KNBR MLB.tv feed + RadioDelay.

Also handy for eliminating the Shoe Pisser in later rounds.

I'd rant-biatch about the timing of the games ("yay! Let's start at almost 10pm Eastern! Wheee!") but I may be the only one honked off about it.

Eh, despite going so deep he was very economical - only at about 120 pitches, which is normally how far he can go without a problem. I don't feel that will be an issue in whether or not he can or should pitch on 3-days rest (which he definitely should if the Yankees don't win tonight).

Hell, once I heard him (when the Cards were playing in San Diego) offer to take the other announcer down to Tijuana. They mentioned going down there and I just thought "Aw, Mike, no... don't do it..."

Damn if the next thing out of his mouth wasn't "We ought to take you down there."
