(Uproxx)   Morissey was his complete and utter delightful self on The Colbert Report last night. Which of course means he acted like someone just ran over his dog while "First of the Gang to Die" played   (uproxx.com) divider line 55

It was a funny interview on Colbert's part, but Morissey was just being Morissey.

I think Morrissey sucks. 90% of his songs all sound the same; same whiny toneless moaning. He's awful IMO.

I liked how Colbert didn't back down from joking him. Im sure the staff were not pleased with the meat free environment that Morissey demanded that Colbert mentioned. Loved the Smiths but Morissey is a tool

I didn't realize that:

-I have a multiple personality disorder;
-That one of my personalities is a TotalFarker named gilgigamesh;
-That he has the same thoughts about Morrissey that I do.

He's looking like Robin Williams these days. Like a puppet with a fist clenched behind its mouth.

Was he off last night, or is he a really bad singer? I've heard karaoke performances better than that.

Misanthropic. Miserable. Mirthless. Morrissey.

This seems as good a place as any to remind everyone that Mojo Nixon is, and will undoubtedly continue to be, the Anti-Morrissey.

I was never a fan of his music, and now that I've heard him interviewed I can say I'm not a fan of him at all.
I believe 'humorless prick' is the term.

At some point you're putting in effort to be a dour asswipe, nobody feels this way for decades on end.

I was a huuuuuuge Smiths fan in the '80s. Morrissey? Not so much.

However, I thought the interview was hilarious, especially Morrissey's prolonged breaking-the-fourth-wall take to the camera and the puffed-out-cheeks exasperation expression. I lol'd heartily.

I agree - I thought he was going to start laughing for a few seconds there, but he knew he shouldn't do it.

God, I love The Smiths. I even enjoy most of Morrissey's solo stuff. Years Of Refusal was mostly a full-on rock record and I loved it, but goddamn is he an insufferable prick.

The magic of The Smiths is definitely the interplay between Morrissey's overly verbose lyrics and the brilliance of Johnny Marr's playing. The juxtaposition of the Moz's melodrama with Johnny Marr's shimmering chords is just awesome. The Smiths will always be up there for me.

"How Soon is Now" - is the only one I like... but it is a great song.

Remember when Henry Rollins stopped his show to go off on Morrissey who was sitting in the audience?

Now that is hot, douchebag on douchebag action.

Morrissey might be a humorless turd, but the Smiths were totally freaking awesome, and a fair amount of his solo stuff has been great, too.

Moz is kind of like Twilight: mention him on Fark, and there will be a parade of people fighting over who hates him the most. He's a singer and a bit of a dick, get over it.

I watched the interview and from what I've read of Morrisey it seemed like he played along pretty well. For a guy prone to taking his ball and going home he handled Colbert being Colbert fairly well.

Listening to it now, and he's definitely off it seems. Last week he played on Fallon, and it was a much better performance, for anyone who cares...

2012-10-10 02:28:23 PM
Wouldn't anyone who espouses all the beliefs Morissey does be a humorless dick? I'm pretty sure there's no other outcome.

If he was any more pretentious, he's be Morissey.

would have been EPIC.

I heard that he'd mellowed. Two of the songs on his new album are 'Meat is a Misdemeanor' and 'Thanks, thanks, thanks, I got what I wanted'.

Could it be the sea, With fate mooning back at me
No it's just more lock jawed pop stars
Thicker than pig shiat, Nothing to convey

It might smear their lovely career

This world, I am afraid, Is designed for crashing bores"

In college I dated a girl who was a Morrissey nut. Everything about her was perfect - her sense of style, her personality, her talents, her ass - except for the fact that she loved Morrissey. Every day in the car I had to listen to this garbage, and it made every cell in my body cry out like a junkie needing a fix. Finally I had to put my foot down, because there's only so much melodramatic whining a reasonable man can take.

So she agreed to the No Morrissey in the Car rule, but then she started farking with me. Like setting the stereo to resume the worst possible Morrissey song (all of them) at the highest possible volume when I started the car in the morning. Or using it as an alarm clock. Farking evil woman.

Saying Morrisey is a bit of a dick is like saying Amy Winehouse liked a sip of wine now and then. And calling him a singer is like calling Yoko Ono a singer. Yeah, they both have made vocal recordings accompanied by musical instruments, but that doesn't necessarily mean that what is going on is singing. It could be wailing, moaning, whining, or ear-splitting squeals used to torture helpless dogs, cats, and prisoners of war.

Morissey is an ass. I worked security at one of his shows back around '90. The asshat purposefully put us and thousands of fans in danger with his behavior.

Long story, bro.
