By the way, the Supreme Court has roundly rejected prior restraint, so this woman has a huge payday coming her way from the city of West Des Moines.

I'm just saying... if you want to starting picking out individual long-time senators and point out their bad stuff... well, its gonna be a long thread full of awful awful things, and it isn't really going to have any winners (as far as D vs R goes).

Funny, it was my original intention to shed light on hypocrisy of both sides. Lunch hour was ending and I got lazy and just wanted to see how many would lose their heads over an offense to Democratic Royalty such as the Kennedys were.

You're right. These arguments have no winners.

On the night of November 6, 1963, Laura Welch ran a stop sign, causing a fatal car accident that killed her friend in another car.[8][9] The driver of the other car was her close friend and classmate Michael Dutton Douglas. By some accounts, he had been Welch's boyfriend at one time.[10] Welch and her passenger, both 17, were treated for minor injuries.[11] According to the accident report released by the city of Midland in 2000, in response to an open-records request, she was not charged in the incident.[11][12] Bush's spokesman said, "It was a very tragic accident that deeply affected the families and was very painful for all involved, including the community at large."[11] In her book Spoken from the Heart, she says that the accident caused her to lose her faith "for many, many years".[13]

Hmmmm... well, Mitt did manage to kill a passenger in his car while he was dodging the draft on his Mormon 'mission' in France. Does that mean he's already the next president?

No, because it happened in France. Everyone knows that killing people doesn't count in France. Just ask Ira Einhorn.

meat0918: clyph: The republican base at it's finest.

I dunno.

I prefer this lady from a 2010 Tea Party Tax Day protest.

[i457.photobucket.com image 609x412]

Because we don't elect Republicans, we don't hear her vote. Her vote is obviously more important than other votes, because she is (an assumed) Republican.

Her candidate lost by 11% in 2010. The same guy got his son to switch to the Democratic Party and run in the primary this past spring.

I just want to say, the behavior of Republicans these past 12 years has placed me solidly in the "Never again will I vote Republican camp". I won't necessarily always vote Democratic, but I cannot in good conscience vote for someone that represents none of my interests.

I'm right there with you. Like most people, I have moved further to the right as I have gotten older, but based on the ever-shifting criteria of the Republican party, I'm a far-left loon, and I started out more libertarian than anything.

Here's the problem they have at a microscopic level: I live in southern Illinois. If ever there was a region that would be lost without having the government teat to suck on, it's here. Don't get me wrong: the government jobs here aren't for the weak. I commend people who take jobs in the prison system, because it's a harsh life. But it's still a government job, made necessary by an ever-widening base of laws that can land a person in jail, all paid for by Chicago, and the St. Louis Metro East area (well, and heavy borrowing, but that's another story.)

So the legislature has stood up against our Democratic Governor and given a solid "no!" to more borrowing, so he's doing something about the spending. He was given power to do so, and is. Instead of going after his political enemies, the way Blago did, right or wrong, he's going after the expensive low-hanging fruit, and is closing down prisons and looking for buyers.

Naturally, because of the Republican party's current "no Democrats allowed" style of government, Republicans have gone on the attack, playing on the notion that Quinn is attacking the working man, and playing on the stereotype that Chicago Democrats are spending "our" money.

Seriously, think about this for a second. Republicans here are siding with people in public unions, and on the side of continued reckless spending. Selling prisons to the private sector? In red states, the people who do it are treated like goddamned small-government heroes, but when a Democrat tries to do it, it's dangerous and irresponsible.

On the national level...I mean, c'mon, the Republicans in Congress have been dragging their feet on everything the past couple of years. They ran on a platform of "government does not work," and by their eagerness to get into office, we should have realized what they meant is that they wanted the job but didn't want to work.

Not that I'm happy with the Democrats, either, but the Republicans can kiss my ass. They don't represent me, and as far as I'm concerned, don't represent America. They represent Republicans, and we can't afford to have people in power who only represent part of America, and have no respect for one of the primary principles this country was founded on, liberty.
