Well, they do have an awful lot of roads. Do they really deserve another one?

Obama has a specific plan for Ohio? Hmm, this seems incredibly unlikely. What seems more likely is that Ohio is likely a tipping point state so load them up on the lies and concern because facts are the enemy of the GOP.

No

If I learned anything from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the moral of "The Boy Who Cried 'Wolf'" is to never tell the same lie twice. They'd be less transparent if this hadn't been what they'd been whining about for the last four years.

Nothing some good 'ol voter suppression can't fix.

Which is infuriating to those of us who live in other states.

As opposed to the redistribution of wealth for the purposes of promoting corporate welfare?

2012-10-10 11:01:15 AM
Don't call it class warfare. It's sowing antagonism between different regions and populations in the country. It's farking civil warfare.

I'm getting really farking tired of these people badmouthing cities constantly. Congratulations, you live in an area with low population density. That's the key to being an American.

2012-10-10 11:03:10 AM
"urban density" is code for "black neighborhood" I think.

Bontesla: As opposed to the redistribution of wealth for the purposes of promoting corporate welfare?

Well it's certainly not communism, and that's all that matters. It is kleptocracy, though, but that's OK.

So basically they're looking at some sort of commuter tax, because the city probably bears the costs of all the commuters, but doesn't get any income or property tax from people living there?

2012-10-10 11:11:03 AM

Generation_D: "urban density" is code for "black neighborhood" I think.

"urban density" = non-white
"urban squalor" = black

Bloody William: Don't call it class warfare. It's sowing antagonism between different regions and populations in the country. It's farking civil warfare.

That thar ain't how Real 'Muricans talk! You've probably never even been in *REAL* America!

I hadn't yet heard it called civil warfare, but on first consideration, you seem to have a great point. The irony to the "Real America" (mis-)labeling, of course, is that numbers, resources and education would -greatly- favor the cities (so, bring it?). And, of course, without the resources from the densely populated areas, the rural areas wouldn't be able to exist -- it takes roads, highways, farm subsidies, telco/power subsidies (and water/sewage for suburbia, though not rural), etc etc etc for them to exist at all, and those resources would not be built without money from the cities / densely populated coastal metropolises / states.

The "Real America" messaging, of course, does manage to play to the fears, insecurities and willful ignorance of the populations that are overrepresented / disproportionately powerful in non-straight-democracy voting, so there's that. That couldn't be it, though, right? Nawww.

mrshowrules: Generation_D: "urban density" is code for "black neighborhood" I think.

"urban density" = non-white
"urban squalor" = black

"urban renewal" = overpriced, poorly renovated, often cookie-cutter former dumps sought after by annoying people afraid to live in varied and interesting actual-city environments?

Are areas surrounding "failing" cities typically thriving? How about compared to areas surrounding cities that are doing well?

Seems like having an urban center that's thriving might actually be beneficial.

2012-10-10 11:55:37 AM
Hmm, it's almost as if the cities are the economic centers of the state and many people who life in the suburbs work in those cities, imagine that.

I'm sorry, what were you saying?

I'm sure those commuters will stop working in the cities then.

I'll translate, if you don't want to give NRO the click:

NEGROES! Obama's gonna give your money to NEGROES!

That's it, basically.

Srsly. Besides, it's Ohio, and all of it - urban, suburban and rural - should be badmouthed equally.

Not a whole hell of a lot that's "civil" about what they're doing.

Psst NRO.. you are making it a great talking point for voters to want to vote for him. Seriously, that only makes socialism look good to voters. I warned in 2010 that it'd be a mistake to keep mentioning socialism as it no longer has a negative connotation for a lot of Americans.

2012-10-10 02:33:13 PM
This just reminds me of the farks who work here in Seattle and live out on the island voting to slash funding for the metro system.

The suburbs and exurbs are parasites.

Americans who frequent Fark anyway...

Ohio receives more federal dollars than they pay. They should be cheering for redistribution at the top of their lungs since it is mostly those liberal north east and west coast states paying for it.

Well, Ohio's Republican lackey Secretary Of State will do everything he can to keep Blackie McBlackerson and wife from voting so it shouldn't be a problem going forward.

Eh...No thank you

In other words, politics in America for the past 236 years.

Yes, this is more NRO stupidity, but let's not count potato and imagine this tactic represents any kind of escalation.

2012-10-10 02:40:21 PM
So now state's rights are the devil and local township governments are what we like?

2012-10-10 02:41:04 PM
Well that could result in opportunity for marginalized urban people of all ethnicities and political predilections. I'm pretty sure that is #2 on the GOP's Big List of Things Which Must Never Happen.

To the Dieboldmobile!

No, that's exactly it. Same thing Mitt was saying with his 47% comments (or did any of you actually believe he meant elderly people and disabled veterans when he referred to "victims" who "won't take responsibility for their lives"...?).

I wonder why America's Steel Belt fell into such a sharp decline?

It couldn't be trade policies and a resistance to environmental regulations now could it?

Would rather those businesses just took one for humanity and dealt with the externalities their pollution produces rather than move somewhere that they can create brownfield after brownfield with little to no repercussions from the indentured indigenous populations if the countries they moved to.

FTA - "This is what Obama was getting at in that recently released 2007 video where he said, "We don't need to build more highways out in the suburbs."

Just more conservative fear mongering. [Someone get this data to Sununu and book him on all the talk shows. Stat!]

This entire article is based on Stanly Kurtz putting thoughts into Obama's head. It also assumes that the Fed is going to take complete control over local tax revenues for an entire state. Lots of "If Obama does this or that" statements in the article. Long on conjecture, short on fact.

Another stupid article that will undoubtedly be treated as a precursor to the Election Rapture that is sure to take place if Obama is elected. Stupid, stupid man Kurtz is.

FuturePastNow: Obama's not the governor of Ohio, nor the legislature of Ohio.

But it IS Obama's fault. Somehow. We all know it.
