I would say that there is probably no iteration of the argument over the length of the shower that wouldn't make repeated stabbing a bit over the top.

I am assuming he had to urinate and the home had only one bathroom. I don't see the big deal about just entering and taking care of what needed to be done. I have been in that situation before a few times and I have just knocked and said "I need to use the bathroom is that ok?" I have never had any woman say no. It is not like one can see anything through the shower door or curtain. Oh I also give them a warning before flushing.
