They throw the word "terrorist" at everything now because it gets people's attention and makes headlines and probably gives an excuse to throw people into Gitmo. The farking Batman theater shooter is being called a terrorist. You don't need to make any politically motivated speeches or demands anymore, just do something violent and you're a terrorist. The word has about as much meaning now as "hipster".

Mugato: They throw the word "racist" at everything now because it gets people's attention and makes headlines and probably gives an excuse to throw people under the bus. Mitt Romney is being called a racist. You don't need to make any politically motivated speeches or demands anymore, just say something stupid and you're a racist. The word has about as much meaning now as "epic".

Now that's not fair. God told Mitt and everyone else in his religion that as of 1978, black people are no longer animals. So calling him racist today is out of line.

If you give a prosecutor power, they're going to abuse it. That's why we hold the world's record for incarceration rates.

10-year-olds have been arrested for "Terroristic threatening". It's a new thing police like to charge people with if you make any kind of threats, no matter what your age. Well, new since 9/11 anyway.

We're gonna need a bigger jail.

You can't reserve the word 'terrorist' for muslims with explosives.

here's the USA PATRIOT act's definition of "domestic terrorist":

the term `domestic terrorism' means activities that--

`(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State;

`(B) appear to be intended--

`(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;

`(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or

`(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and

`(C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.'.

pretty goddamned broad.

So, first pass the NDAA indefinate incarceration amendments, then expand the definition of terrorist. I'm shocked.

Everyone who said that it would come back to bite us letting government and law enforcement have special powers to go after "terrorists" and that soon such laws would be abused to go after petty criminals, come up and claim your prize.

10 year olds are perfectly capable of calling in bomb threats

A person is guilty of terroristic threatening when he or she commits any of the following:

(1) The person threatens to commit any crime likely to result in death or in serious injury to person or property; or
(2) The person makes a false statement or statements:

a. Knowing that the statement or statements are likely to cause evacuation of a building, place of assembly or facility of public transportation; or
b. Knowing that the statement or statements are likely to cause serious inconvenience; or
c. In reckless disregard of the risk of causing terror or serious inconvenience; or

(3) The person commits an act with intent of causing an individual to believe that the individual has been exposed to a substance that will cause the individual death or serious injury.

If they didn't, I don't see the charge sticking

A lower appellate court upheld the other counts but threw out the terrorism conviction, ruling that the facts showed that Mr. Morales acted to assert his gang's dominance over rival gangs.

"Such conduct falls within the category of ordinary street crime, not terrorism," ruled a panel of judges for the Appellate Division of State Supreme Court in 2010.

They threw it out once before, probably will again. This just sounds like a case of prosecution trying to add more charges to a conviction in order to increase the jail sentence.

Well, dammit. There are posts on the politics tab that:

A) violate cyber-bullying statutes, and are cruel enough that they could possibly cause somebody to commit suicide [welcometofark.jpg]

B) are intended to intimidate or coerce "libtards" or "conservatards" and advocate influencing government policy by promising an "ass-kicking" or "beatdown" on election day

C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States

That could get you Gitmoed! Or maybe your wife, if she were trolling with your account.

Please. Remember the National Security Letters that PATRIOT birthed?

80-some-odd percent of them have been requested/issued (whatever the right term is) regarding drug cases and domestic crime, not international terrorism. And now they want to use drones domestically as well. Because Farmington, KS has a big problem with al-Qaeda infiltration.

// and we're still not allowed to take video of them with cell phones

Go ahead and scoff. One should. One really should. Dumbasses like this... Indeed, it's hard not to laugh. Not because it's funny. Too bad it's not. Everyone knew something like this was coming. No one acted to stop it. That's the real crime. If only someone had acted. Only now it's too late. Now we're stuck with it. So we need to make the best of it.

I terrorized my cat with the vacuum yesterday. Not intentionally, mind you. But to my cat, I am a terrorist. He later terrorized me, though, by throwing up on the bed, so it's all good.

Is this one of those ploys they use to catch "potential terrorists", like using a free bass boats to lure in deadbeat dads?

2012-10-10 01:01:54 PM
Yes.

2012-10-10 01:01:55 PM
Definition of terrorist? Easy:

If you don't like them and have no obligations to their supporters: Terrorist.
If you don't like them but have obligations to their supporters: Violent Extremist
If you like them but have obligations to their opponents or supporters of their opponents: Armed Insurgent
If you like them and have no obligations to their opponents or supporters of their opponents: Freedom-Fighters / Rebels.

NY seems to have skipped the part of the lecture in which they covered terrorism really only being a definition applied to foreign operators. American citizens are just criminals.

2012-10-10 01:01:56 PM
We should label all criminals as terrorists and give the government absolutely authority if we're going to by candy ass pussies about it.

So 10yo's have political agendas now?

Terrorism isn't just making threats or being scary. Nor is it committing violence, regardless of scale. You could kill 1,000,000 people, and still not be a terrorist. Terrorism is about specific intent - political and/or social change.

...these same people are blasting Obama for not calling Libya a terrorist act. Therefore, yes, the Aurora shooting was, indeed, a terrorist act, according to these same people. And so were the Oklahoma city bombing, Columbine, and the shooting that injured Gabby Giffords.

Doesn't that rather precisely describe our actions in Iraq and Afghanistan, Obama's air strikes and much of our foreign trade policies?

Oh wait, that limits to harm done to the USA locally, not how the USA treats others.
