Which is odd because I've never seen anyone or anything on Ketamine that looked as though they were having a good time.

Ketamine is a dissociative. Like crack or PCP. It's a scary thing.

// so they can study Ketamine, but weed has "no medicinal or research value"

I was going from memory - no farking way am I searching for "crack" on my work laptop. I know crack is thought of as a stimulant, but IIRC it puts users in a dissociative state while they're amped up (like PCP).

I was just reading about out Special K Ketamine can cause a disassociative disorder where you basically believe your loves ones have been replaced by duplicates.

I dated a girl who was totally clean -- no caffeine, no ibuprofen, nothing-- because the last time she took anything, it was K. She got herself into a K-hole, which she described as the scariest thing ever. She could barely talk about her experience, and had anxiety issues because of it.

She couldn't even watch movies that involved people doing drugs because it scared her so bad.

/or maybe she was just nuts
//no matter, she was good in the sack

That's why you should always mix ket with equal parts MDMA and coke prior to snorting.

All of the fun sidewaysness of ket, but with the extra up and lots of FORWARDS that you need to really have a good time on the dancefloor, or just out and about in public.

... or so I hear.

crack isn't a dissociative. It's a functional dopaminergic and adrenergic agonist. The adrenergic effects are stimulant, but it's not the only effect.

So does cocaine, meth, excstasy, heroin, weed, oxy.....pretty much ALL mood altering drugs make you less depressed..... when you're ON THEM.

My theory is that some forms of depression are caused by neural over activity. Ketamine would tend to suppress that. Of course, I don't have ready access to a fMRI, and my "control group" is "crazy family members NOT taking drugs"

There is a big difference between "therapeutic dose" and "recreational dose" Either way, monkeying with your think box is going to do something dramatic. Plus, buying stuff from the street is always risky. Given that it's quite unlikely that said compounds are from highly trained synthetic chemists, it's better to stick to those compounds synthesized by mother nature.

So? MDMA is an excellent tool in physiotherapy, but so long as the War On Drugs continues, these substances are horrible evils that justify spending billions per year combating.

Or so I am told.

Was at a club on West 27th street in New York and we were all sitting upstairs partying with Cola and some bloke from australia offers the spot between his thumb and finger full of powder.

Digweed was spinning records and i completely forgot what we were doing.

Well it turns out Ketamine will overwhelm anything else in your system and you will shut down ie K-hole.

Long story short it was a very long walk home to my buddies apartment that was directly behind the club and we all leaned on each other for support to get there and collapsed in a pile on the floor once we got in the door.

Then we crawled to our beds, i had sex with his girlfriend and he had sex with the girl i brought home from the club, then we switched.

In conclusion i support the conclusion of the report.

Were they suffering from major depressive disorder and taking the Ketamine in a controlled experiment? Also, the good feelings are after the drug effects wear off, not during.

It'd be interesting to see whether it's eventually to be scheduled for human trials for depression. I'd sign up instantly, because these SSRI's and SSNRI's aren't cutting it, and fark MAOI's.

i heard it ruiniates your pee works.

If you do lots of special k it rips up your urethra and you need to shove a catheter up your junk EVERY time you have to pee.

Blech.

FTFA: So yes, ketamine's potent and rapid effects seem downright miraculous, even though the relief it provides from depression onlys last seven to ten days.

This isn't a cure, just another palliative.

Like I need something else to be disappointed by. Thanks for nothing, subby.

So the stuff I used to use to sedate cats and dogs for procedures at USDA cures depression? All it ever did to them was knock them out cold and make them drool.

pag1107: So the stuff I used to use to sedate cats and dogs for procedures at USDA cures depression? All it ever did to them was knock them out cold and make them drool.

Did anyone actually read oh wait it's Fark.

It temporarily relieves the symptoms for longer than the duration you're actually on it (give or take a week).

Very strictly only-twice-a-year doses of something I found on my own (for two and a half years, iirc) did more to temporarily alleviate my depression then any single one of the Russian Roulette medications I got put on. Especially since none of *those* actually treated the condition I eventually found out was my actual problem anyway.

But war on drugs what what. I think designer nonsense, taking stuff you don't know, etc., is pretty stupid. But so is the fact that I legally couldn't get a medication that had published studies on its effectiveness.

In any case, the "but pot!" argument doesn't work in my medical marijuana state anymore.
