The catch is that the overreaction is so predictable, it *should* screen out all but the "me to" criminals. Then if any moviegoer has a clear line of fire* and darwinates them, it is justified.

There should be a period where one can be allowed a certain amount of "overreaction" after a tragedy, and while you're right about the bang-bang solution, can you allow for either concealed croquet mallets, or socks full of batteries?
