When I was 13, I took some drugs and a famous director gave it to me in the pooper. After that I did nothing of interest. The End.

A stark true story of one girl's dark past, set against the backdrop of the glamorous 1970s film industry on two continents, the story that took 40 years to tell because it was so shocking at the time, the story that to this day polarizes opinions and elicits outrage.

The 70s were different. Age 13 was considered acceptable IF you got into certain entertainment, rock and roll, or movie circles. Look at popular entertainment during that time, it included Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby and Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver. Both sexualized tweener/early teens.

Polanski's crime was widely not reported. As a movie buff teen at the time that read a lot of media when I could get my hands on it in the school library, I only remember passing references to it or quick reports, sort of "In other news" .. not unlike you'd get an NFL player being reported for missing child support payments today, or something along those lines.

The whole under-18 is a strict felony doesn't start happening til the mid-late 80s, thats when sex offender lists start popping up, thats when society norms start to change. Rob Lowe's 16 year old who claimed she was 20 damn near got him in prison in 1989-1990 .. though it was laughed off once he was acquitted.

Polanski also had that "he's european, you know how they are" thing working for him. Same card that various celebs from England got by with dating who would be considered underage today, with a big age range.

Anyway, just trying to shed some light on it. As a teen in the 70s, nobody much knew, or they knew, it wasn't in the context of "rape," it was in the context of "Polanski has been linked to." They did tend to cover that stuff up still.

I would have had sex with her, but not anal like he did.

You know, I don't care if Polanski was guilty or not. (Which he was.)

I don't care if he's right about how the judge reneged on the plea deal to make an example of him and get famous.

I don't care if the victim has forgiven him or not.

What I care about is that he was able to use his money and power to escape any form of punishment for a crime he pled guilty to because he decided he didn't like his potential punishment, and then whined like a little biatch for decades about how hard it has been for him in doing what 95% of the world, when faced with this charge, could not do. And that other people in his same overprivileged class defend and applaud him for it.

Also, Rosemary's Baby sucks.
