I listen to almost nothing that I listened to in high school. There are a handful of albums I listen to that I got then, but only a handful.

True "Dumb Teenager" story -

Honor student - 15 years old. I figured I'd extend his horizons; collected a crapload of music he hadn't been exposed to. He starts listening to a Bach Cantata.

Strangely enough, I had terrible taste back in high school but then later in life started really like the good songs released during that time, even though I didn't like them when they came out.

I want to thank the researchers for answering a question I've had for years: why many people my parents' age (but not all) object primarily to later music being 'loud' -- more than to its intrinsic musical qualities. TFA seems to answer that: it's conditioned, and remains conditioned. My parents came of age in an ere when most music they were exposed to was nowhere near as loud as much of the music I was exposed to around the same age. The music itself, then, is secondary to its volume. Very interesting to learn, and now I can rest easy knowing that my father is not an incurable square, he just doesn't like loud music.

I'm not really all that big of a fan of the stuff that came out while I was in high school. If anything, my taste in music at that time was about 20 years older than I was, and still is. Felt like I was the only one in my high school that DIDN'T like rap / r&b ffs.

Oh, man...you just gave me San Antonio music flashbacks. The regular Tejano was bad enough (Mexican Polka music?!), but to give it a Techno beat? My ears are already bleeding.

Arguably in a live situation it would be the opposite.

As a musician I can tell you that the trend has been towards less loud guitar and bass amplifiers in live settings. Stage volume is now much less than it was before thanks to good PA's and monitor systems that can more effectively broadcast. Guitar and bass players no longer NEED huge stacks on stage to be heard and often times they're using a miced backline that could be used in a small club without an issue.

I live in austin. I've actually been to that club over at lamar and 183 where for many years during the early 2000s, all they played was tejano techno. It's called Tejano Ranch now but I think it was something else last time I was there. I still have nightmares.
