I don't even like American bluegrass, why would I like the imported knockoff.

// Sorry guys, some of us use electricity. If the S ever hits the F, I'm sure you clogging, stomping fiddling mandolin, violin and banjo people will be in huuuuuge demand, really. Right now lets just leave the 19th century hillbilly and farmer music back where it belongs, in the history book. Yes it was essential to get us to where we are, but no, that doesn't mean I want to listen to it. I don't eat 1890s candy, and I don't want to listen to 1890s music. Have fun.

"I firmly believe if you want to be a guitar player, you better start on acoustic and then graduate to electric. Don't think you're going to be Townshend or Hendrix just because you can go wee wee wah wah, and all the electronic tricks of the trade. First you've got to know that farker."

I'm unable to find any clips of the Russian Dixieland Jazz band that played in the Moscow Metro system in the early 90s. But when you've been trudging in heavy boots and fur hat through a long connecting tunnel, hearing them play could really make your day.

Lessee now..

According to music historicans, Bluegrass emerged as a distinct style between 1930 and 1940. And rock and roll emerged as a distinct style between 1950 and 1955. Which means that both are over half a century old, but Bluegrass is a whole whopping fifteen years older, like your mom.

i don't know much about the asian side of it, but i've thought bluegrass and whatever subcategory of asian music it is were similar for some time

compare
roscoe holcomb on banjo
and
tsugaru shamisen music

beyond just being similar instruments, the old country songs have beats and licks that just throw a modern listener off.. often endings that seem completely wrong too. it's a lot like listening to foreign music until you get used to it. in fact, that's the stuff that i find want of when listening to modern country banjo type-a stuff.
