Sounds like he's getting an earlier head start than his dad, so he should be at least as good as a Shawn Bradley.

Hope you have her playing volleyball and/or basketball. That's scholarship height if she's the least bit coordinated. My wife and I doomed our girls to have to excel in in academics. 5'5" and 5'1". They'll be lucky to get past 5'. Are there jockey scholarships?

I'm currently working with 7th graders and I am shorter than a couple of them, it sucks.

My Dad's side (mostly Scandinavians) are really tall. Dad is 6'1, Gramps is 6'3, Great gramps was somewhere around 6'7. My gramps and my Dad both married short Irish women. I'm barely 5'10 and I'm the tallest of four children.

/Cool stories bro.

someone pointed out that Jake Plummer wouldn't bulk up like his NFL teams wanted him to so he quit and played handball instead.

Manute probably would have killed at handball. As long as the ball didn't hit him and knock him down.

CSB tiemz.

Grew up in philly. Mom got a job cleaning Manny Bol's carpets. She brought me along. I was about 6 Turns out he'd constantly throw crap around his TV so there was just this dark ring around the TV on the white carpet from all the crap he'd throw at it. Ended up meeting his mom and I think one of his brothers at the house. I remember he had an A-Team van parked in the driveway. He took me out to a toystore and bought me one of those electric racecar track sets while mom cleaned. That night he went out to Taj Mahal in AC and my Mom's boyfriend was a limo driver, so I got to ride in the car with them.. He and Charles Barkley were staying in a room together. Manny invited me up. Charles was a prick, but looking back I don't blame him. I was some goofy looking 6 year old kid he never heard of hanging out in his expensive Taj Suite.

In the video his son looks a lot more coordinated, which isn't saying much, but I wouldn't expect any kid growing that much to have much coordination yet.

He should take up smoking to stunt his growth/look cool.

Jiro Dreams Of McRibs: someone pointed out that Jake Plummer wouldn't bulk up like his NFL teams wanted him to so he quit and played handball instead.

I'd say it was a lot more due to disenfranchisement the way the NFL was all excited to fine him for wearing an "in memoriam" type sticker after his friend and former teammate (in college and the NFL) Pat Tillman died. Then there was enough of a PR backlash against the NFL that they did a one-weekend celebration thing of him but after that, Plummer still couldn't wear whatever unless he wanted to pay $15,000/week.

Combine that with the fact that Shanahan's a rat-f*cker that no one likes, and that'll get you retired quickly.

He retired after being traded away from Shanahan.

SirDigbyChickenCaesar: He retired after being traded away from Shanahan.

Realistically, he retired before then. It was a case of "no, I'm not moving again because I don't give a sh*t about this stupid-ass business anymore (note: used the word business because at that point it's not a game anymore)."

He told Tampa Bay he was retired and he wasn't going there, and they traded anyway.

I remember a SI piece with him about 2-3 years ago. It was like a 4 page article in which he said he didn't really care for football that much to begin and did it to make a ton of money quick and retire early. He lives in the mountains and organizes handball tournaments and even lets the participants crash in his house and throws raging keggers. He sounds like a pretty nice buy who was never cut out for the NFL to begin with.

I coached AAU feeder league basketball for a number of years, and the only time I ever used a birth certificate challenge was against a 7th grade team that obviously had a ringer on it, a 6' 5" monster built like a truck.

Out of the stands comes the kid's dad, 6'11" Dallas Maverick Roy Tarpley, holding the kid's birth cerificate. He said no hard feelings, it happened all the time.

Oops.

Manute was a very good guy, when I was in HS he played for the Bullets and lived in my hometown and I made the fried chicken at the local Roy Rogers (he loved that stuff and the team would have bought him a lifetime supply because they were trying to fatten him up) It was awesome when he came through the drive through because his car had no front seat on the driver's side. He just sat in the back and drove from there.

I think I recall that after basketball he spent his fortune trying to end a civil war in his home country.

He moves very well, has very good ball handling skills and can shoot. But the main story should be that they let a 25 year old lay on a seventh grade team. Look at that mustache on that person behind him. Who do they think that they are fooling?

Here's a fun Manute Bol fact. He possibly helped coin the term "My bad". With his somewhat limited use of the English language, he'd say it instead of "My fault". Considering his propensity to screw up quite a bit on the court, he was probably saying it a lot! The phrase caught on with the rest of the players who thought it was pretty amusing, and it's pretty much commonly used now.
