The fact that Buick lives while Pontiac is gone is a reason ti never buy a GM car again.

Well, you know, besides the fact that GM cars usually suck.

Pontiac sucked donkey balls since the 70s. It offered no value to the marketplace. Goodbye and good riddance. At least Buick has a position as the mid-market brand, and wasn't stuck just being a Chevrolet with a different badge.

1. VW Beetle. Huh. I didn't know "back from the dead" meant "new version of a car from 5 years ago".
2. Fiat 500. Ok, I'll give ya this one, but that doesn't make it anything more than a $23,000 underpowered peanut for people more concerned with fashion than motoring.
3. Thunderbird. Huh, I didn't know "back from the dead" meant "ceased production 7 years ago with no plans to make a new one"
4. Chevy Camaro. Huh, I didn't know that "back from the dead" meant "new model replacing discontinued one from 4 years prior."
5. Dodge Challenger - I'll give ya this one too, it was almost 30 years since we saw the last one. Also, I like them the best out of the "new retro" muscle cars. Also, it's a 300C with a different body.

The Dart would have been a better choice than the majority of the list. If you're gonna include the Challenger, where's the Charger? If you're gonna include the Bug, where's the Sirroco, which has been out of production for, I dunno, TWO DECADES longer than the bug. You're gonna include the Thunderbird, but not the GT500?

Retarded list is retarded.

Since this article also mentioned the T-Bird, I'm guessing they aren't talking about the new model year revision so much as the resurrection of the car in 1998 after not selling the car in the US since the first Star Wars movie was in theaters.

I had a 2002 model year (second year out). By then the grey cladding was replaced with colour matched cladding and larger rims. But you're right. It fits right in with almost any crossover out there now.

It'll still be 'cool'. Not everybody has this sense of nostalgia for the cars of the 60's and 70's. Sure, they looked neat, but they were also extremely inefficient, unrefined, and unsafe. Maybe I'm just not old enough to "get it", but I find the current Dart to be superior to the old ones in almost every way possible.

Style, and taking a known and loved name and applying it to a car nothing like what it was originally

Look at the challenger, that was done fairly well

look at the charger, sort of ok, it at least resembles the original some

and then there's the dart, the new thunderbird for dodge

What bugged me about the Thunderbird is they took the T-bird brand in at least 47 different directions during it's life span and then hid it for a while and released the "retro" thing after VW redid the beetle. So if you look at the whole span of the cars, the new bird just looked pathetic. And out of place. I feel the same way about the new Camaro and Mustang. The Dart isn't even that. It's a Neon with a new badge.

But the Beetle, Fiat 500 and Challenger look like what you would have expected them to look like if they had remained in production and evovled naturally. They grew old gracefully and weren't facelifted to desperately try and recapture what they looked like in High School.

That newest beetle is just awesome looking.

1. The beetle was out of production for a long time before the 'new beetle' hit. It was surprising to see the old slug bug come back when the new one first hit. I'm much more a fan of the more recent redesign though.

2. I'll give them that one as well, although, i'm not a fan of it.

3. Bad choice from them, for the reason you stated.

4. once again, was out of production for quite some time when the new one first hit.

5. the challenger was a major shock to me, ditto for the charger. Was really surprised to see those.

3/5 isn't a good list, imho. Makes me wonder if the author was going by memory, and forgot some of the other, more recent comebacks. The Dart deserved a spot, as does the charger.

I had a 96 T-Bird. The transmission started going out around 32,000 miles. I talked to people who had older ones and they were all 'yeah... we have 105,000 miles on it and we are on the 4th transmission.' Particularly if you had the V8, which put out an incredible 205 HP with a 4.6L engine. Plus I had the 'sport' model so it rattled your teeth out.

The slant 6 was a better motor than a lot of people realize. It should be possible to get a lot more output than stock, without rendering it crystal-vase fragile. I guess it's easier to just do the engine swap, though, than boring, stroking, and changing out the cam and carb on the slant 6...

Uh, Original Beetle went out of production in 2003. New Beetle was introed in '97

So both were being built at the same time Weird, huh?

I do like the look of the new beetle with the retro steelie wheels and the little dogdish hubcaps. Gives me fond memories of my Dad's old '68 and him pulling the nose of it back into shape (after he rearended someone) by chaining it to a tree and backing up really fast a few times.

So what sorts of Datsuns is Nissan bringing back? The old 620 pickup? the B210? Do we dare hope for a retro 510?
