gamergirl23: Learn to surf. See Niagara falls. Lots of stuff, really.

My girlfriend is from the greater Niagra Falls area (no seriously) and I've visited there several times when we go back to visit family.

Be sure to take the Cave of the Winds tour on the American side. There's nothing more breathtaking than LITERALLY standing at the base of the falls and having the thundering water cascading down around you. It's the best 10$ you'll spend all day. Better than Maid of the Mist I think.

cmb53208: Road trip above the Arctic Circle to Inuvik, NT

I did the Dempster Highway the weekend of Memorial Day. The ferries had been running for about a week, but there was some extra ice pack flowing downriver, so they had to pull the ferries back out of the water... I was only able to go to basically the Arctic Circle sign.

Write and publish a book. I have all these great ideas in my head, but they never seem to come out right.

I would also accept developing and publishing a game. Board or tabletop rpg.

2012-10-10 01:29:28 AM
While in the Navy, I've done the following:

Snorkling with dolphins off the coast of Columbia
Walked in/around/on the Parthanon in Athens
Seen the Leaning tower of Pisa
Walked through Pompeii
Walked upon the top of Mt Vesuvius
Toured Saint Peter's Basillica
Travelled the red light district of Amsterdam (plus the museum of sex and the museum of Pot/Hemp/Hash)
Travelled to (in no particular order): Turkey, Italy, France, Greece, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, etc...

But I wasn't able to see/do:
The Cistine Chapel (timing and dates weren't right)
Stonehenge
Mount Rushmore
The Devil's Tower (Close Encounters place)
Carlesbad Caverns
Venice (Our stop there got pulled last minute)

Some I'd like to do simply because of my nature, some because it would be cool. Learning to fly a plane would be nice, but not high on my prioroty list any more...

Buy a Volkswagen Microbus, Febreeze the hell out of it, throw a mattress in the back and travel the country with a girl or two. Then maybe do a similar thing in Europe.

This sounds more enticing by the day. I'm fresh out of engineering college and highly disillusioned with the workforce. Apparently "working your way up" means doing a few internships as an unpaid secretary, then a couple years doing part-time work as an underpaid secretary, then full-time work as a "I can buy clothes now"-paid secretary. I should have all the cash I need come the end of December, so I'll make it a nice Xmas gift to myself. Wish me luck!

I think I'd like to go skydiving one day. Never got a chance to do that.

Ohh, as for folks talking about SCUBA diving, I'm a certified dive instructor. I try to make a trip down to Cozumel every couple years. If any ya'll are really serious about wanting to dive, I'd be willing to try to make it happen.

2012-10-10 01:35:58 AM
For all those who want to SCUBA, do it. It is the closest you will ever likely get to the feeling of being in outer space. I used to teach it and it's a snap to learn.

I asked my man why we don't do that... he said it was because we don't have a wheel. :/

Engineering sucks as a career choice these days. At least the big two classic ones, EE and ME. Universities sell themselves like condo units, the pictures look great but it's when you find out the details that it stinks.

That said, go out and have fun. The way life is set up in our society, a society that never stops telling us how productive we are and how much technology we have, you have precious few years to actually DO anything with our resources. After about 25, you better be married with kids in the 'burbs, mister. Just like everyone else. But tell your kids they can be anything they want...

Definitely LEO (tip o'the hat to you, Lord Snoopy)

Things that are unrealistic? Kowloon in the 70's (with a security contingent), seeing the Afghanistan Buddhas, Sonia Braga, a prohibition era speakeasy.

I'm trying to separate my income from my location. To pull that off I need to find a new income stream because I'm sort of tethered to my current network of thrift stores. My ultimate goal is to make $10k per month in royalties from ebooks and patents.

I'm a CE and 26. I took the smart route and vowed not to get married until after I was done with college. Although I griped a lot in my previous post, I sure as hell wouldn't trade places with any of my friends who are already married and have kids. Working in retail with a kid has gotta be soul crushing.

Finish the Children's Album I've been working on for years.

I still work on both when I find the time. I used o fret about it more. But now that I spend most of my "free time" with my one and two year old, I don't sweat it.
