Their fan base got a legendary coach fired only to replace him with Ron Zook. They deserve all the scorn and mockery college football can muster up, and college football is really good at scorn and mockery.

I will say, I like college football and I like following along on various message boards for whatever teams are playing at the time. Over a period you tend to get a sense of the emotions of the fanbase.

Since they invented internet college football message boards, I'm pretty sure the anguish from warchant.com on Saturday night has to take the cake in heartbreak and fury. Most people at least try to find a positive. FSU fans were gnashing their teeth and ripping their clothes, they were so upset. I've never seen anything quite like it.

But how bout those Gators!

Listen carefully dumb blonde, most people wouldn't have the patience.

The FSU fanbase and boosters pushed Bobby Bowden out a few years ago due to a basic incompetence. Fair enough. However, they installed Jimbo Fisher, who is Ron Zook for all intents, dude's a good recruiter but apparently flips out on game day.

Do you need more to be explained? I laugh at you as a UF graduate. You are the cliche of a Gator fan that drags us all down. I bet you wear jorts.

Forde was pretty much pointing out the obvious, but he nailed it today: Link

FTFA:
Florida State (17) solidified its reputation as the biggest perennial dog in college football. Every year, the Seminoles find a game to blow against a middling opponent - sometimes multiple games against multiple middling opponents.

FSU was a 17-point favorite at North Carolina State, making that its fifth loss as a double-digit favorite in the last 3 ½ seasons. The Noles were favored by 17 against Virginia (14-13 loss) and by 10 against Wake Forest (35-30 loss) last year. In 2010, they were 10 ½-point favorites over North Carolina (37-35 loss). In 2009, they were 14-point favorites over South Florida (17-7 loss). Las Vegas has yet to figure out that Florida State is annually overrated.

You forgot that their fanbase forced out a legendary coach and replaced him with Ron Zook while creating college football message boards. So they were busy. Or something.

I disagree with the writer. The ACC has not just been bad against non league opponents this year, they have been terrible. The sportswriters and coaches notice little things like that, and the TV exec's who have the final word on who gets the playoff spots are going to lean heavily on their advice. If the Seminoles had gone undefeated they would have been a shoo-in to grab one of the four BSC playoff spots, but now they are going to need some help by having some of the other undefeated teams get knocked off. If they don't get it, they won't get one of the coveted four slots, regardless of whether they win the ACC Championship game or not.

I doubt that FSU is going to lose any more games, perhaps they will have a bit of trouble against Florida. Despite this fluke loss, this is the best team they have had in awhile, they are talented and deep. That game up in Raleigh against NC State was really a freak loss, the Wolfpack were down to one last chance four different times, once where they had to hold FSU to get the ball back and three different convert the fourth down or the game was over on the game winning drive. If they played again FSU would blow them out. I'm sure that the Seminoles will take it out on hapless Boston College this coming weekend.

That Jeff Fisher and his staff was outcoached in that game by Tom O'Brien and his staff was fairly obvious, NC State won that game by hanging around in the first half with attacking blitzes on third down plays and made half time adjustments that shut down the Seminoles rushing game, allowing them their late game heroics. But to say that Fisher can't coach, well that is just baloney. Watching Florida State wallow around under the last years of Bowden and then having Fisher take over was like watching an pro take over for an amateur. On any given night a team can get hot and upset a superior team, and the football gods decreed that last Saturday night was to be the night of the Wolfpack.

2012-10-09 08:52:25 PM
FTFA:Florida State's goal now has to be to win the ACC which should have the been the primary goal all along. While the prospects of national title seem remote at the moment and are in fact unlikely, it hasn't reached the level of impossible.

WTFever. Even if FSU went undefeated this year, they shouldn't even sniff the top 10, Their SoS is a farking JOKE.

Ironically, only the Gators can save FSU's national championship hopes.

Florida goes undefeated and wins the SEC, beating 'Bama in the process-but loses to FSU. That probably puts the Seminoles in. Of course, FSU has to win out, too, and some of those ACC teams are every bit as good as N.C. State.

Jimbo calls great games when the opponent, on paper, poses a serious challenge (UF, Miami, Clemson -- hell, they hung with OU last year despite losing half the team to injury in the first half).

All other games, he's perfectly content to half-ass it and escape with a W. So would-be blowouts turn into close games, and close games turn into losses. NC State came to play (to their credit), and made him pay for it.

If history is any guide, we'll beat the Gators' and Canes' asses, beat VaTech soundly, and somehow find a way to lose to Maryland.

However, everybody biatching about Bowden getting shiatcanned is idiotic. It was Bowden and his cronyism that built our current reputation for choking. It was long past time for that old huckster to go.

Nobody's confused by the Ron Zook comment. (Hell, FSU fans have been making the Ron Zook reference since the loss to Wake last year.) They're confused by the fact that you said FSU deserves scorn and mockery for dumping Bowden, because if you had half an ounce of self-awareness you'd know saying that makes you look stupid.

2012-10-10 09:41:23 AM

RickyWilliams'sBong: Nobody's confused by the Ron Zook comment.

Actually, given the fact that it's about a Florida team, the fact that Zook did come in for a legendary coach when he came in...I'm gonna say most people thought Confabulat didn't know what he was talking about. That happens when you don't make it clear that you're using a metaphor, and use the actual name of a former in-state rival coach. If he said "their own Ron Zook," then it would've been clear.

I've been an FSU fan since I moved to Tallahasse in 1972. I used to go to home games when I was a Cub Scout for free. Then Bobby entered the picture and he build a Dynasty, but he srayed a little too long. Enter Jimbo and they're climbing again. All most FSU fans really care about is if we can win against the gators and caines. That's it. Period. Anything else is gravy. Even when we're losing I still chop and say "GO Noles".

2012-10-10 10:46:27 AM

stupiddream: All most FSU fans really care about is if we can win against the gators and caines. That's it. Period. Anything else is gravy.

And that's part of the problem. In this day and age, how can we expect to win a National Championship when we can't even focus on winning our own lousy conference?

2012-10-10 10:57:37 AM
Bobby Bowden was awful in his later years. Just awful. I doubt he could name a single FSU player from 2004 onward aside from Christian Ponder. Guy spent a game sitting next to Darnell Dockett, but had no idea that the reason Dockett was sitting next to him is that Dockett had been ejected. Guy had to ask reporters what the score was. Just an embarrassment,

That said, Jimbo gets way too complacent and conservative. There's maybe one or two Wolfpack starters who are better on paper than FSU's. To try to basically run out the clock in the 3rd quarter with a 16-0 lead is just ridiculous. And then he blamed it all on execution (i.e. the players) in the press conference.

It's agonizing being an FSU fan. As long as beat Florida again, though, Jimbo should get one more year.

I have never, ever seen anyone wearing anything that exclaims - FSU, XXXX ACC Champions. Even when they were piling up ACC trophies when they first joined the league and no one could beat them. Now FSU can't seem to fill their stadium unless it's Miami or UF. But really, who gives a crap about FSU/Maryland, or FSU Boston College? Tallyfags should have joined the SEC when they were invited.

I'm, of course, obligated to hate him, but Spurrier is an awesome coach and lightyears ahead of Meyer. Meyer wasn't worth the powder to blow to hell once Mullen and Strong got head coaching gigs, and even with them it was as much about FSU and Miami having their heads up their asses for a decade (leaving Meyer a monopoly on Florida high school talent) as it was about good coaching. Once Bama, FSU, and Georgia recovered, Meyer was done.

The fact that Spurrier keeps on winning despite being at "Sackerlahnuh" says it all, whether he ultimately wins the SEC at some point or not.
