::Update 11/2:: Everything looks good! Deer Park has power, (local) roads are open and going strong, and Daylight Savings Time comes in just as the bar is closing and says "NOPE! You get one more hour to drink!" The stars have aligned, and you need to be there.
::Update 10/27:: I'm not sure how Sandy will affect the Newark area. Obviously it is hard to predict the outcome of something like this, but I will be calling the Deer Park later and asking if they are in a flood warning area, or expect to be back up and running by Saturday. Sandy should end on Tuesday and power outages are only expected to last three days, so I am expecting this to go forward at this point. I will still be there, and hope to see you all there as well!
::UPDATE!:: Reservation is made for 9pm under Fark.com. We have our own section and server, I guess because they've heard of us and don't want us to frighten the other customers.
We've got a lot of Farkers in the DelMarPa tri-state area, but the Marylanders and Pennsylvanians are well-known for their unmasked hatred of each other. This is a chance to bring them all together in the neutral and universally hated state of Delaware.
The Deer Park Tavern sits on the spot where St. Patrick's Inn stood before burning down. SPI was known as a stopping spot for George Washington and Edgar Allen Poe, as well as Mason and Dixon while they were busy deciding who could have slaves. The Deer Park is also believed to have been a stopping point for the Underground Railroad.
Newark, being a college town, has several bars to choose from. The Deer Park is at the end of the main strip and tends to be more of a stop for townies than college kids. Lots of seating, great drink specials, and live music on Saturday nights, plus SEVERAL college bars within walking distance if you decide the Deer Park doesn't do it for you, or if we all get kicked out.
Still trying to figure out the best time to get it started, but I figure I'll probably show up there around 9pm and ride it until it closes.
This is my first attempt at organizing a Fark Party so we'll see how it goes. Any of you professional organizers are absolutely more than welcome to shoot me an email, EIP, and share advice or horror stories. I'll be providing "Hello, My name is..." tags and peanut butter cookies. BYO Social Awkwardness.
