FTFA:

"National polling released Monday continues to demonstrate an apparent Mitt Romney surge, with the Republican nominee at least pulling even with President Obama -- and in one poll shooting past him -- on the heels of what Gallup deemed the biggest debate victory in recorded history."

But why let the facts get in the way of a good liberal/anti-Fox circle-jerk?

So basically, the expectations on Romney for the next one are through the roof.

Hey, Fox is absolutely correct. This was a bigger win than anything Reagan or Bush could ever have achieved!

Mitt's a stronger Conservative and far better leader than the Gipper.

This makes sense when you remember that Fox News wiped all their recordings of history prior to January 20, 2009.

I disagree. On October 9, 2012 at 7am, Peach the cat strongly debated with me over whether she should have some food while I was still in bed. After rifling through my tissue box and hitting me in the face, she was pronounced the winner of the debate.

True, but he was manipulating holier-than-thou doofuses to his bidding, a tradition continued by the current GOP.

Well It was, wasn't it? Has anyone else ever scored a 72% win in a presidential debate?

"Conservatives" habitually condemn as false anything appearing in the "LSM" including polls, which are apparently in the tank for Obama (except now they're suddenly accurate).

As Romney said, "sauce for the goose..." (or has he changed his position on goose sauce?)

The current GOP is a lot more like Van Alden - rigidly puritan in public, hooking up with drunken floozies in private, occasionally violently insane...

The Stealth Hippopotamus: JFK vs Nixon (TV) > Reagen vs Mondale > Reagen vs Carter (2nd) > Romney vs Obama

According to the article, Gallup had it as the biggest gap since they started polling debate results. I think Fox might have puffed it up a bit with the "recorded history" part.

Interestingly, JFK-Nixon was polled quite close, but people who listened on the radio thought Nixon did better while people who watched the young, vibrant JFK on TV thought he won. Nixon refuse to wear make-up (because he thought it was a sissy thing to do) and he was also suffering from the flu and looked like death warmed over on TV. In a close race, the taller better looking guy tends to win.

Evidence at this point suggests that is in fact correct. Some of the PPP swing has to be wrong, it's far too big an outlier. But even half of that swing is double historical swings.

Aarontology: So basically, the expectations on Romney for the next one are through the roof.

The good news at this point is this is absolutely true. You can't lower expectations for the next one, not realistically. And the President has nowhere to go but up.

Yep. Romney absolutely has to kill it next time. Attempting to lower expectations on him is saying his performance in the first debate was a fluke.

It probably was, though it was a fluke on both sides. Romney convincingly lied in a manner we haven't seen in 5 years of campaigning and Obama sucked like we haven't ever seen. But I can't see how Romney's people can put that in a statement and have it be convincing. So now Obama's people can imply that Romney is going to be just as good or even better than last time, and worry about how good the President can be because he's too busy and he doesn't have as much time to prepare as last time.

Spin is kind of fun sometimes.

Honestly though, it just hit me how utterly disgusting it is that the "biggest debate win in recorded history yes even the one they wrote about on the rosetta stone" was the one where Romney just got up there and lied through his teeth. Anyone still talking about death panels in the year 2012 should literally be laughed out of politics, and yet...

I think Romney has to know that too. he hasn't really tried to capitalize on it much himself (not that I've seen anyway) so I think he knows Obama is going to be all candy ass about it again.

He talks about it, he's just begging for stories about how his lies are bullshiat, which could erode his performance. It's like they suddenly figured out how to campaign.

No, you are absolutely, completely right.

This win by Romney was the greatest anything in the history of ever. Romney has proven himself an absolute god, standing astride the earth like a colossus.

Far beneath him we democrats cower trembling, literally pissing ourselves, in the shadow of his mighty forefinger as it points boldly toward America's glorious future under his leadership.

So yeah, good stuff. Be sure to keep puffing up those expectations for the next two debates. After all, without his teleprompter, Zer0bummer can't compete with such a heroic intellect as Romney, amiright?

I can't possibly see a downside to all this dancing about and gloating.

Did you miss this from TFA?

"New Gallup numbers show registered voters overwhelmingly considered Romney the winner of the debate in Denver. Seventy-two percent gave Romney the win, while 20 percent said Obama did the better job. Gallup reported the 52-point victory is the biggest the polling firm has ever measured"

Thems the facts.
This was the biggest shellacking in debate history.

Must be tough on 0bama after his party was shellacked in 2010.

meh. Romney's playing the long game.

0bama was stupid enough to think he was debating the Romney that he was lying about during the campaign (doesn't want regulation, killed a woman because she didn't have insurance, giving $5T in tax breaks to the rich, ate a dog, etc).

Still several weeks to go.

Mitt's 'long game' involves a series of campaign stop victory laps wherein he puffs up performance expectations far beyond any level he could possibly hope to meet?

That's an interesting strategy. It almost looks like he was just so happy to finally have a W under his belt, he couldn't help but gloat about winning the debate, and that he didn't stop to consider the fact that he will have to debate Obama 2 more times before the election.

Or that there is still an election.

Nah, I'm sure your right. Mitt's playing a long game.

Yeah, it seems they are celebrating a touch down while only on the twenty yard line. Two debates to go, and Romney now has to basically pull off completely flawless victories in both to not look like a loser.

What it means is that it was the biggest debate win in recorded history.
That is no different from saying a team won two world series game with two perfect games, but lost the series.

Is that so hard to understand?

Besides, I noticed that Nate still has Ohio as an 0bama win despite Romney's lead there.
