Whiskey Dickens: Rent Party: Whiskey Dickens: Rent Party: Pray 4 Mojo: Mishno: Personally, I don't get the "lifestyle" thing and ride a Honda. Isn't it true that Harley makes more money selling t-shirts and "lifestyle gear" than bikes?

I don't have any evidence... but considering the myriad of "Harley Shops" that don't sell bikes... I would say it's true. "A T-Shirt company that builds motorcycles." I'd say that 95-99% of Harley swag is made in China also... classy.

In 2011, 76.2% of HD's revenue came from motorcycle sales. 5.9% came from merchandise not parts and accessories related. That's still three hundred million dollars worth of t-shirts, but it's only a fraction of their total revenue stream.

There ya go.

5.9% of Harley's annual sales is three hundred million dollars?!
Would you like to do my 2013 taxes?!

According to HD it is. In 2011, 5.9% of product revenue was based on "general merchandise" and totaled $271 million.

If you don't think that's accurate, you should report it to the SEC, because that is what HD told them.

I read your .pdf, and I'm flabbergasted to learn that they pulled in 5.3 billion dollars in revenue in 2011. What the fark?
My apologies for calling BS!

I'm in awe of Harley-Davidson's marketing team. They've managed to maintain an air of exclusivity, while simultaneously having a 50% market share of all U.S. sales of "heavyweight" bikes (650 cc and larger). Considering that H-D's smallest model is 883 cc, they probably have an even larger share of the market for bikes in the 1200+ cc range, where most of H-D's models compete.

cgraves67: As much as cops let their cars sit and idle for hours on end, I'm not surprised they don't catch on fire more. If I wanted to figure out how the motorcycle got burned up, I'd start by looking at the maintenance records.

Doesn't really matter.

Either the motorist or the mechanic will end up in prison for this, and pay some sort of "restitution" to replace the bike.
