So he's thrown a tantrum and walked out of ... what? Six now?

Very presidential.

I'm going to love Joe Biden kicking his ass in the debate.

That was a strange question. I don't think that walking out was the best way to handle it, but it was weird.

I haven't been paying attention but really? That seems a lot, no?

^ That. The question was completely unrelated to what they'd been talking about. It'd be like talking to Obama about the deficit and, after he explains about increasing cuts and revenue, asking him "And you can do all that with more gun laws?"

I can sort of see a connection based on tax cuts vs his statement about increased enforcement of current laws, but the way he asked the question leads me to think that it was not his intention to draw that connection.

I'm really looking forward to the debate at this point, really.

The NRA is not going to be sending Paul Ryan a Christmas card this year.

you kind've have to grasp at straws to figure out how romney/ryan are going to get anything done when they don't give anything more than vague ideas as their platform

yes lets bring civility to the inner city. what next unicorns for all ?

The proper question would be, is it necessary to Government to invest in enforcement to achieve the desired results?

TFA said he did not raise his temper or become impolite.

But, yeah, if something like that flummoxed him, he's in for a hell of a time come tonight.

Not really. Ryan was talking about enforcing laws, creating opportunity in inner cities, etc. Usually, that requires tax money, so the interviewer came back with the "can you do that with tax cuts" comment. Ryan should've at LEAST come back with one of his standard talking points, but he didn't.

That was a terrible question. That said...

"Ryan went on to explain that not even President Obama is talking about implementing more gun laws."

That will be quite a relief to Wayne LaPierre!

2012-10-09 11:46:10 AM
You didn't build this!

Looks like Ryan's babysitters pulled the plug on that one.

I don't know how anyone could have a conversation with Paul Ryan and not feel like they are being condescended to.

I'm kind of surprised he doesn't drive a Prius considering how much smug he regularly generates.

What are you talking about? That's the perfect time to implement more gun laws, when you haven't told an body that you're going to!!!

It's a good thing super-geniuses like Wayne LaPierre run the NRA. Otherwise, I may not be so updated on the gubmint's never-ending quest to git mah gunz!!!

"What we've learned - if we just put more gun laws in place, it doesn't actually stop criminals from getting guns and committing these crimes," Ryan said. "This is why we need economic growth, this is why we need education reform."

How in hell will CEO pay increases and education cuts do jack shiat about crime? Except maybe increase it?

Saying Ryan's plan is giving tax cuts how is that putting words in his mouth?

It's funny when you point out to a Republican, what they have said and they freak out. It's like "How dare you take my crazy talk as being serious!! Good day sir!"

That's a bunch of BS anyway. Is he saying NO criminal has EVER been arrested for a gun law crime? That is total BS but it is what he is saying and they let him get away with a lie like that.

Fark It: It was a stupid question and an even stupider response.

How was it stupid. Ryan's plan is not about giving tax cuts and everything magically gets better?

He want's to cut programs helping people in the inner cities. His idea is you give them tax cuts and they all magically get jobs. That is his plan.

Asking him how that would actually work is "stupid" how?

To be fair, everything Ryan was saying was completely inconsistent with the Romney Ryan platform, so the strangeness of the question kind of matched the strangeness of his reply. Apparently this is the strategy. COMPLETELY SWITCH PLATFORMS multiple times in the final month of the campaign and then complain when people are confused.

Is there a chance this is a poorly-thrown softball by the interviewer that was intended to provoke a response about the benefits of lowering taxes, and it was completely misinterpreted by Paul Ryan?

"The best thing to help prevent violent crime in the inner cities is to bring opportunity in the inner cities. Is to help teach people good discipline, good character. That is civil society. That is what charities and civic groups and churches do to help one another make sure that they can realize the value in one another," Ryan said.

"And you can do all that by cutting taxes? With a big tax cut?" the reporter asked out of nowhere.

"Those are your words not mine," Ryan shot back.

I don't get what the problem is... doesn't Ryan believe that by giving out tax cuts then people/businesses would have more money to give to (civil society) charities and nonprofits?

I don't even subscribe to his ideas and I could have answered the question the way he would have. Why couldn't he just do that?

This. It wasn't quite up to 'Prove to me you're not a terrorist' levels of stupid, but it was 'Back to filling in on weekends, and you might want to update your resume' stupid

Petulance, thy name is Ryan.

2012-10-09 02:16:36 PM
Sounded to me that it was someone off camera that stopped the interview. Ryan looked like he was waiting for the next question after his "Those were your words not mine" response.

2012-10-09 02:17:31 PM
Seems like a fair follow-up to ask how decreasing revenue would allow for better enforcement of current laws.

2012-10-09 02:18:04 PM
And now I actually just watched it.... wow, what an utter cock. Him and Romney go stomping around the country for six farking months talking about tax cuts and how that's the lynchpin of an economic plan they won't give any more detail on, then this little blubbing vagina gets all pissy because somebody brings his own economic "plan" up to him?

Jesus.... the right has gone from being pissy little biatches on web forums when people repeat their own damn words and ideas to them to making it their presidential platform. I don't know even know what I'm watching with this campaign anymore. I'd call it a trainwreck, but it appears, to some extent, to be working.

I hope Biden can press his buttons.

Paul "Marathon Man" Ryan is such an athlete, he can do an 8-minute interview in only 6 minutes.

2012-10-09 02:19:38 PM
It was obvious that the local reporter was coming to the end of his interview time and couldn't create a "got you" comment yet, so he tried to create one with a completely dislocated question. I'd have walked out as well.

2012-10-09 02:19:58 PM
The VP debate will be farking GLORIUS if this how Ryan acts if someone asks him a question he doesn't like. Biden's gonna play him like Weird Al with a new accordion.

Yeah, I don't know why he said the "your words, not mine" line. Ryan doesn't believe that a tax cut will spur economic growth and get these people jobs?

2012-10-09 02:20:30 PM

kbronsito: I don't even subscribe to his ideas and I could have answered the question the way he would have. Why couldn't he just do that?

Because HE doesn't actually subscribe to his ideas and is sensitive, as the entire campaign over there at R&R inc. seems to be these days, to the fact that cutting taxes isn't playing as well with the electorate as it used to.

Now the GOP is all "help the poor and needy, raise taxes on the wealthy, improve education, provide opportunity to urban communities, don't increase the defense budget, don't cut domestic programs, but somehow ... do ... something... different from Obama. When asked what they'd do different, they talk about how bad a job Obama is doing and then talk about how they'd do the exact same things he's doing. It's transparent, and it's extremely difficult to deal with if you're their opponent. Or an interviewer, or an American citizen with more than a middle school education.

born_yesterday: What a little farking biatch. No wonder he's the Teabagger darling.

I love his spokesman's spin: "Congressman Ryan has given 100s of interviews; at some point it's inevitable that an interviewer will embarrass himself."

Not that Ryan could have said, "Excuse me? I don't understand how that question relates to my remarks." Or more directly, "No, tax cuts have nothing to do with that." You know, like a regular human being might.

Rather than stamp his pretty little foot and flounce out of the room.
