Ehh, I'll buy it. Every team in the division has a pretty legit defense.

Yeah, there had better be an asterisk.

The Dolphins are too damn high.

Yes. Those 3 defensive penalties that enabled the Packers to get into field goal range on their last drive were pretty bad calls.

While I really wish I can agree with you. As WSU Alum and huge lover of the Pac 12 I still think the SEC is the best conference. I wish that conference would take a flying leap into the Atlantic Ocean. I hate the SEC, but that conference is good

Outside of the Ducks all the other teams really are not that great. and I freaking hate the Ducks. I'm hoping the Beavers win the conference.

USC, Stanford, Oregon State may all be over rated.........I know Washington was and the Cougars, well lets just say this year is a loss and we are still hoping for that Mike Leach factor to kick in!

If you want to go for full disclosure, I have been screaming from the rooftops since last August that they were the best team in the history of ever. I am wrong. I can deal with being wrong, but I cannot deal with being absolutely abysmal after a 15-1 season while adding "improvements" on the woeful defense.

The NFL isn't that far from parity. That's the ultimate answer.

It's really hard to justify an asterisk when Rodgers got sacked eight times.

If their O-Line had actually showed up, that touchception would have been a funny story in a Packers win, not the deciding play.

At least you own it, I give you a ton of credit for that. Any improvements to the defense are mitigated by the regression in turnover margin (last year was unsustainable in the long haul) and the fact that there aren't many one-dimensional offensive juggernauts that survive beyond a single year. The Packers can't run the ball, and everybody knows it.

Don't worry; according to one of the ESPN comments, you're way better then your record:

Teams that are better than their record this season: 2. Green Bay (2-3) - Super Bowl, then 15-1, but now replacement-gate and Luck-Pagano mania followed the 49er juggernaut. Still wouldn't suprise anyone if they won the Super Bowl this year.

I'm not sure what replacement-gate is or how the Indy thing factors into your record, but I'm .. not as.. smart as *snert* an ESPN commenter. *Dies holding in laughter.

/not rubbing it in your face, but I had a lot of GB fan friends making fun of us (Bear fans) after the Indy game, since they are such an easy team. I wish we had a QB as good as yours, but it still felt good to see GB lose to Indy.

I bought stock in Sam Bradford early. I saw quite a few of his rookie season games and said that when he gets talent around him, he's gonna be fun.. He can make all the throws and rarely locks into a receiver; even in his rookie season he had that full field awraeness where he's scannign teh whole field.

Arizona is in for a big regression, i think, as the line is awful and the defense is not as good as we think or people are saying. Our vaunted and awesome defense let Pats back in the game, our vaunted and awesome defnese was pushe dto the limit by Seattle, our vaunted and awesome defense got worked by rookie Ryan Tannehill last week. He dropped 431 on our AMAZING DEFENSE. I mean, ok, a win is a win, but OT at home against Miami and a rookie at that?

Not really like the next four: Buffalo, @ Vikes, SFO, @ Packers. Vikes and SFO i'm concerned about, and I think GB will get its house in order the next few weeks.

SFO is legit.

SEA is a question mark. Very good defense but i'm not sold on who they've played thus far: Arizona's rather anemic offense (loss), crushed the once again overrated Cowboy team, beat a "just not right" Packer team (and by a scant two points at that, 14-12), lost to the Rams (no shame, they're legit), and then beat an underacheiving (1-4) Caro team sunday.

so they've beaten teams a cumulative 5-9, but lost to teams a cumulative 7-3. Hard to figure out what Pete Carroll has going on up there.

2012-10-09 01:36:22 PM
Wonder what Winston Wolf thinks about that?

"Let's not start sucking each others dicks just yet gentlemen..."

The division has one elite team (49ers), and three mediocre teams with good (Rams) to elite (Cardinals) defenses, but the best QB in the division is Alex...freaking...Smith (aka the guy 49ers fans were ready to disappear three years ago).

Parity...learn it and love it. A few teams with 10 wins a few with 6 and everyone else right around 8. Going from having three teams that couldn't win 8 games between them to a bunch of 8-8 teams doesn't make you the best division.

For my money, the best division is the NFC East. Super Bowl champs, resurgent Redskins, and the Eagles and Cowboys both have potential to make a run. The NFC West has maybe one team besides the 49ers who could do something in the playoffs, either the Cardinals or Seahawks.

Yanks_RSJ: The Packers can't run the ball, and everybody knows it.

Their overall defensive nosedive since their Super Bowl year tells me just how good Nick Collins was. I always thought he was an Ed Reed without the flash, but I'm more sure of it now.

2012-10-09 01:47:16 PM

js34603: elite (Cardinals) defenses,

i think it is a bit of a false narrative.....we are 5th in PPG, but that's no help as #1 is SFO (13.6 per) and SEA #2 (14). As for Yards per game, we're 11th. So we're good but elite? I won't say that.

If Gostkowski makes that field goal, we're 3-2 with virtually teh same numbers across the board yet nobody would be saying anything "elite" about the Redbirds.

I've adopte dthe Missouri ethos to ARizona's D: Show me, don't tell me.

The Eagles and specifically Vick are a turnover machine. Daunte Culpepper is out there somewhere nodding his head in approval.

By my count that's 7 SEC teams in the Top 25 vs 4 PAC-12 teams (Including 3 SEC in the Top 5). ALWAYS a great time to be an SEC fan, the BEST conference in college football.

1 Alabama
2 Oregon
3 South Carolina
4 Florida
5 West Virginia
6 Kansas State
7 Notre Dame
8 Ohio State
9 LSU
10 Oregon State
11 USC
12 Florida State
13 Oklahoma
14 Georgia
15 Texas
16 Clemson
17 Stanford
18 Louisville
19 Mississippi State
20 Rutgers
21 Cincinnati
22 Texas A&M
23 Louisiana Tech
24 Boise State
25 Michigan

You're talking about the Cowboys and Eagles who got completely physically dominated in all phases by the Seahawks and Cardinals, respectively, and the Redskins who lost to the Rams? That NFC East?

Yeah that's why I said one or the other would be good. With the defense the Cardinals have they could beat anyone (say, the Patriots). With the offense they have they could lose to anyone...say the Rams. Same with the Seahawks.

Cowboys are overrated every year, no doubt. But you don't think they are capable of winning a playoff game? They have talent even if it underperforms.

As for the Eagles, funny thing about turnovers is they tend to regress to the mean. In other words they aren't going to continue turning the ball over 5 times a game, and if they stop doing that, they could have been undefeated.

The Skins are the least competitive team in the division and their injuries on defense are going to hurt them. But both of the teams they beat thought they were playoff teams and the Saints probably still think they are. In any case it is probably no better than a pick'em for Redskins v. anyone in the NFC West not named San Fran.

He is definitely the missing link. As much as I miss him as another QB rings up 400 yards against us, I am glad he and the Packers decided his health was more important than playing football.

Say it with me again, Fark.

DIVISIONAL GAMES ARE CRAPSHOOTS.

Not saying the Rams aren't good (I think they're pretty solid), but teams beat better teams in divisional games ALL THE TIME. Especially at home.

I am tired of seeing "This team we thought was good lost to that divisional rival we thought was bad! Everything is turned on its head!"

There are 15 games like this every season.
