"I just killed my mom and my sister," he said. "I shot them with a .22 revolver."
However, the details didn't end there. Evans went into the shocking factors surrounding the incident.
"I just thought it would be quick, you know," the teen told the dispatcher of the crime, which was committed in Annetta South, Texas. "I didn't want them to feel any pain. That's why I used a gun, but it was like everything went wrong."

TFA: "Evans had no history of mental illness"

Which, in the US, means "Evans had no history of committing crimes for which mental illness was his defense".
Because that's how we roll in the US. We ignore mental health problems. Particularly among the high functioning.
Care is pretty much unaffordable, so unless you commit a crime, we just cross our fingers and hope the first incident that forces the State to note the problem and pick up the tab isn't a (double) homicide. ... And even then the State will fight to deny the existence of mental health problems by default and downplay future risks, because they don't want to pay for that shiat either.

/ Not to mention a good chunk of the country has a default attitude that any claimed mental health problem that hasn't already resulted in a serious crime is mostly bullshiat.

Wow, I'm against the death penalty, but I think this kid should be killed right now in the most humane way possible so scientists can study his brain and figure out how such malfunctions occur, how to detect them before they get all shooty, and maybe how to fix them.

Kill them early, before the law allows them to punish you. This kid will walk freely among society once he hits 18, just a ticking bomb waiting to kill more people

Why Would I Read the Article: borg: I blame Hollywood they always show people dying instantly when they're shot and not screaming in agony while they bleed to death

Which is why from now on all movie death scenes need to be done like this one from Turkey.

Like having shiat on his face and getting shot several times wasn't bad enough, he goes and shoots himself in the foot.

well... it's strange how things have changed.

in the 90s, I remember the common sentiment that it's horrible time to raise a child because the world is so crazy and they'll suffer so much from this crazy world (see "The Rock" for more info).

now, I'm absolutely more frightened of the children. kids are killing parents and strangers, and pretty much anyone they can find. for no predictable reason (I'm sure there's a reason, but it doesn't help if the reason can't be reliably cured before the murder spree).

/ well, the bible did get one thing right, children are born evil.

"He also explained that his family was suffocating him and then said that he is "evil."

That'll learn 'em to call him evil.

Apparently, the irony of killing his mother and sister for killing him evil was lost on him.

Modguy: Modguy: shower_in_my_socks: He says he's worried that this will mess him up in the future. Dude, you're old enough to be tried as an adult, and you just committed a double-murder on your own family in the state of Texas. What future you have left involves experiences that will make The Shawshank Redemption look like an episode of Gossip Girl.

Texas man. More like The Green Mile.

Specifically, the part where the guards conveniently "forget" to douse the sponge.

Under 18 when crime committed, federal law says he can't be executed.

"I wasn't even really angry with them. It just kind of happened. I had been kind of planning on killing for a while now," Evans proclaimed, saying that he wanted to kill "pretty much anybody."

As his basis for wanting to commit murder, Evans ironically said that he didn't like the negative attitudes people generally have. He also explained that his family was suffocating him and then said that he is "evil." The teen also admitted that "this is really going to mess me up in the future."

Waiting for the usual round of "Yeah, we knew he was weird, but we didn't do anything" and "We thought about getting him help, but then he was expelled to another school so it wasn't our problem anymore."

This is Texax, so the answer is that the mom and sister should have had a pistol holstered on them at all times in the house, and not that we should have better healthcare in this country to catch this shiat and deal with it before people die.

First off my condolences to the family - this has to be one of the most heartbreaking and tragic events I could imagine.

This being fark -

Odds are mom and dad knew something was off with Jake and covered for him. This is why you don't do that. Crazy may look soft, shy, and cuddly on the outside but inside it wants to see where the wires are inside you or to kill you "quick and painless" etc. Crazy by nature is crazy, unpredictable, and sometimes violent.

His description of how his sister was "freaking out" and wouldn't hold still for him to shoot her in the head is what reminds me of a youtube clip of a girl whose father shot her and left her and her sister to die in a motel room and she is sobbing "I'm dying" to the 911 operator it's the most pittiful thing in the world. It kindles a sense of RAGE in me that this fark will be allowed to live untill he is put to death, commited to a mental institution for life, or the real possibility that he will be allowed loose in society in 15 years because he is reformed.

This is why you keep the death penalty. Because Jake is broken, he is beyond fixing. The most you can hope for is that he's got good organs and someone more worthy will get a chance to live.

Pretty sure the "mess me up" thing was referring to emotional damage from having killed his family. Listen to the 911 call. "sociopath" is tossed around way too easily.

FTFA: Evans and his sister Mallory were being home-schooled. Evans had played on the golf team before withdrawing from Aledo High School in January. He played football in middle school.

Abusers seek to isolate their victims. i wonder how often "home schooling" is a coverup for hiding child abuse. There may be a backstory to why the kid did this, that he hasn't told yet.
