FirstNationalBastard: These days, the conservative echo chamber led by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh would paint Mister Rogers as a communist pedophile child molester who should stay out of politics for daring to defend PBS.
UberDave: FirstNationalBastard: These days, the conservative echo chamber led by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh would paint Mister Rogers as a communist pedophile child molester who should stay out of politics for daring to defend PBS.The interesting part is that you may be exaggerating with this but after what I heard them saying about Sesame Street lately, I honestly wouldn't put it past them.
Gwendolyn: The indoctrination thing because they talk about sharing is just insane.
Gulper Eel: it's not 1968 any more and there are countless more educational media options.
exick: Gwendolyn: The indoctrination thing because they talk about sharing is just insane. These same farkers don't see the irony of saying that while dragging their kids to church every Sunday to hear the wonderful children's story about Noah bringing two of every animal on the ark while their loving, merciful god drowned every god damned living thing on the planet, or all about how this same god wants them to do as he says not as he does, them to give him 10% of all their money, and to exclusively worship him or else they'll be tossed into a fiery pit to suffer for all of eternity.
nekom: And nearly each and every one of them exist for profit.
Trivia Jockey: And how many of them are created by people who care as much about not only the product but the audience as Fred Rogers did? Not too farking many. That man put his his entire life and his soul into making healthy children's programming.
nekom: Gulper Eel: it's not 1968 any more and there are countless more educational media options. And nearly each and every one of them exist for profit. Are you suggesting it's somehow better for children to watch what amounts to an animated commercial for a toy?
Gulper Eel: nekom: And nearly each and every one of them exist for profit.Seen the revenue numbers for Sesame Street and its affiliated products lately? Not that they are as ravenous about separating parents from their money as, say, Disney, but they do rather well compared to other children's educational ventures.
Gulper Eel: First of all, how many of us haven't seen this video ten thousand farking times?
MrBallou: Have you ever really watched the shows on Disney Playhouse? They are fantastically dumbed down. It's not educational at all. It's SO engaging that it's frightening, yet it only leads kids through scenarios and activities that seem aimed at a special-ed class or a brain-washing session. Your kid will get dumber every time he watches that stuff. At least PBS tries to educate and inform.
