I get the feeling I've seen this video before. The "soldier surprises kid by showing up in person and making sure it's getting filmed" video gets posted about once a month or so.

Considering there are tens of thousands of troops still deployed in the Middle East, I suspect we will see more. And every one means someone else made it home. I'm good with that.

Why do they only surprise their families if there is a camera around?

2012-10-09 05:28:04 PM
These have become so common, I don't see how any family can actually be surprised anymore.

FTFA: "Sgt. Faile had returned home from South Korea, after completing his third tour of duty. He had previously served in Afghanistan and Kuwait."

Sounds like a POG to me. Was he crashing his pine desk into mud huts? The only thing he likely killed was time.

His tag said "DOD" CIVILIAN...so I'm guessing he was a hired contractor hired by the Department of Defense for whatever purpose he serves. Nice to see him come back though.

These "surprise reunion" videos make me uncomfortable. Wouldn't it be less stressful for the family if the soldier just told them via Skype that he's coming home earlier than expected, and then they reunited privately?

Not trolling. Merely an opinion that differs from yours. I find the hero-worship of people who are paid to rain death upon people who have done you and I no harm to be sickening. How about some hero-worship of teachers? Or people who work to alleviate poverty or disease? No. Apparently people who actively do good are not worthy of such attention.

The local teachers are too busy striking in intervals to give a shiat about hero-worship.

Teachers? Highly paid? GOOD! So they should be.
