Projecting their own desires onto the president. Something the right wing has a bit of experience with.

I think people projecting their racial desired is pretty familiar to Obama supporters.

2012-10-09 08:43:54 AM
I've met some people along the way,
Some of them split some of them stay,
Some of them walk some walk on by,
I've got a few friends I'll love till I die
From all of these people I try to learn,
Some of them shine some of them burn,
Some of them rise some of them fall,
For good or bad I've known them all

We live our life in our own way,
Never really listened to what they say,
The kind of faith that doesn't fade away
We are the true believers
We are the true believers

Well you can fight or you can run,
Hide under a rock till the war is won,
Play it safe and don't make a sound,
But not us we won't back down
True believers all the way,
You and I...

We live our life in our own way,
Never really listened to what they say,
The kind of faith that doesn't fade away
We are the true believers
We are the true believers
True believers

I didn't vote for Obama to produce a post-racial America. Maybe a nice bonus if he moves us in that direction, but it's not the reason people voted for him.

I love the term "post-racial" coming from Conservatives. I am not sure if they are making fun of it, thereby showing that they want to revert to segregation, or if they have their own idea of post-racial, which is to magically "unblack" the Negro race, and make them into White people with darker skin, which will, of course, instantly eliminate poverty and make all blacks Middle and Upper Class.

Their Presidential candidate belongs to a religion that didn't think blacks were human until less than 35 years ago so yeah, they might have some catching up to do when it comes to racial issues.

I think the one thing proven by the Presidency of Barack Obama and the Right Wing response to it, is the we are definitely not living in a post-racial America.

Actually, I voted for Obama because McCain went off the rails on Ossetia, attempting to defend folks who were engaged in ethnic cleansing. Palin was a symptom of a sick campaign, and one that was not just unfocused, it betrayed the ideals that the man himself had fought for for years in an effort to get the nomination in a field of reactionary idiots.

Romney will NEVER get my vote, since I lived in Mass while he was Governor, and I had to deal with the UMaine system while he was on the board there. I don't just dislike the man, I despise him, and pretty much everything he represents.

We would be so much closer to post-racialism if Barack had successfully passed his "40 Acres and a White Woman" initiative which gave each black man land and a white woman. However those Republican obstructionists in Congress voted it down.

When President Barack Obama and others on the left are not busy admonishing the rest of us to be "civil" in our discussions of political issues

This sounds like a personal issue from the author.....perhaps he hears this a lot because he's a douche bag. Seems like the kind of guy that interjects his hatred of Obama into conversations about baking cookies, petting puppies, and any tangent available.

I had Hoped his election signaled a potential step forward for race relations in this country. But then some angry conservatives Changed that message to "fire the uppity darky to keep America FREE!" and I realized I was going to have to cope with the fact that ignorant people stay ignorant forever.

I loved this tape they've been banding around showing Obama being racist because he's a little less uptight than usual (well, that and the speech identified ways that virtually everyone agrees the federal government failed blacks as part of it's overall message that the government is only part of the problem and that the black community needed to take responsibility for a lot of the issues it was facing back in the 1990's.) They say it sounds like a completely different person, how he sounds so angry and hateful and how he's talking ebonics and how this is the true Obama... and I just don't hear it. True, he sounds a lot different than he does when addressing the nation formally, but go back to some of his late night appearances or when he's been in some sort of intimate setting. Obama hasn't ever shyed away from slang or a more lively speech pattern, it's something we've seen before. The fact that this sort of lively speech is seen as "angry anti-white contempt" just blows my mind because I don't see how you get there from what he's saying, no matter how much you edit out the overall speech.

As a minority, I never believed that Obama's election meant a post-racial America. It is human nature to segregate ourselves into cliques, and as long as this proclivity is part of the human experience, there will always be racism. There will always be ignorant motherfarkers out there.

What Obama's election does signify, is that the last seminal color barrier has been broken. We have a black president. Just about a decade ago, the idea of a POTUS of color still seemed like a fairly distant reality. It's not the end of racism as we now it, but it does incontrovertibly prove that America is no longer a white Christian hegemony. We are a multicultural nation.

2012-10-09 12:47:22 PM
I'd guess believe that there are a handful of people who have done this. Accuse Farkers and Kos posters or whomever of race-baiting all you want but Obama's been quite wisely circumspect about playing to or on the (obviously still simmering) racial tensions and anxieties of America. Both in the 'white guilt' and 'the opposition to me is racially motivated' arenas. Would have been nice of course if he'd acted as some magical catalyst for moving in that direction but maybe we just weren't there yet. Net positive in the long run I hope but I think we're still waiting for an older generation to die off.

/True Conservatives truly are post-racial; to the point of being unable to even see "color."

NEWSFLASH - speakers often tailor their messages to their audience. More at 11.

Seriously, ain't that some bullshiat? Meanwhile Romney changes his entire platform depending on the audience, and that's perfectly fine.

I'm somewhat surprised that this hasn't even been brought up. It's not like his religion advocated stoning people for adultery three-thousand years ago. It was the late seventies when Mormon God decided that he was cool with black people. Romney was whatever the equivalent of a priest is in the Mormon hierarchy, so it stands to reason there was a point in time that he thought blacks were a cursed group of subhumans.

Can anyone tell me what Obama said that was slightly urban? If anything his style of speaking in these situations is folksy Midwestern white. The fact that Republicans see Obama's speech pattern in the video as "fark whitey!" doesn't seem to match what I'm hearing.

Anyone who thinks Obama was "speaking ghetto" got a clip that they think supports this view?

Obama will turn on the black preacher voice and cadence sometimes. Don't have a clip offhand, but he's done it in the past when addressing black audiences. "Speaking ghetto" is a little harsh, since it's not like he turns into Easy E on stage, but he does shift his voice, purposefully or not.
