So what is this GOP talking point about paying to use Big Bird in a campaign ad again?

You can clearly see that Big Bird doesn't appear anywhere in that image

The Count doesn't, ah, count as a Sesame Street character?

Sarcasm, my friend

Please GOP keep putting Mittens wanting to kill PBS in the news i'm sure it's not going to hurt the campaign at all.

Seriously, Obama and the Chicago crew have always been great organizers and painfully sharp and on point and they're just phoning it just a few weeks before the election. There's no more time for long game BS, endgame time to go in for the kill is NOW!

Have to agree. Anyone who hasn't decided by now can be swung by funny/snarky ads like this one. Downside, they can easily be swung back, since they have zero commitment.

Federal funds account for about 15% of their budget. Remember, they don't have commercials. Romney wants them to carry commercials. Seems dirty to me.

I see the talking points are out. Try to spread out your posts a bit more next time so it's not as obvious.

It's a legitimate question. Images are protected, trademarked property. It's like when a Republican candidate uses some lefty musician's song at a campaign rally and the ensuing hissy fit, only more serious.

Big Bird is big money. Care to answer the question?

The don't have to pay since Sesame Street is already owned by the government.

Let me explain the issue to you in priority sequence:

1) it is about the seriousness of tackling the debt and how Romney isn't serious
2) it is about PBS as an expensive non-commercial information sources to the general public
3) it is about early childhood development and how that helps education/socialization overall
4) it is about how Romney even looks disconnected when he tries to reference a popular cultural icon
5) Big Bird is purely a symbol of hope and joy, an icon that speaks to the past as well of the future and dirty Liberals love that shiat.

True. Trolling deserves ignoring. It won't happen again.

Trolling: An accusation often used to dismiss an opposing or inarguable viewpoint with which you disagree. When you reach into your intellectual quiver and and your hand goes straight to the bottom.

Let's recap, shall we?

Cletus: Did the Obama campaign have permission to use the trademarked image of Big Bird?
Some farker: Oh, the talking points are out, I see.
Helpful farker: It actually falls under copyright law and the owners are not required to protect the copyright.
Cletus: So, by staying silent they are granting permission, it seems. Seems dicey to use the image if they didn't have permission and the copyright owners chose to make it an issue.
Other farkers, in unison: Why wouldn't they allow it? Romney wants to de-feather and gut Big Bird?
Cletus: Well, Big Bird's owners declared themselves nonpartisan, plus their connection to PBS, which receives government funding, makes it seem unwise to jump into politics.
Some farkers: You sound tired.
Other farkers: You are a troll.
Cletus: Jeebus, why freak out over a question that is probably going to be raised all over the place soon. And it's a stupid issue that distracts from important stuff, don't you think?

There's your problem. You're assuming it's an issue. You're assuming it's dicey. They don't have to do shiat, and said not doing shiat is the best thing for them. No one else thinks this could be problematic for the makers of Sesame Street. That is where you're concern trolling. Speculating about a problem where no one else sees one, just to find some bad angle from it.

The point is they're not controlling the conversation. They have people talking about the shiatty debate and a stupid point from it that really comes across as whining. At this point in the game you should have one or two killer weaknesses identified in your opposition and be doing everything you can to just hammer at it. Think John Kerry flip flopper or Sarah Palin is dumb and dangerous type things. Like it or not, Romney is controlling the narrative because Obama is deciding to phone it in while people are currently able to vote early.

He is, apparently, part lark, part homing pigeon, part canary, and part golden condor. He is at least one-quarter emu, as his grandfather was an emu. The Swedish Chef refers to him as "gobbla gobbla humungo", and his Latin name is "bigus canarius".

I'm so tired of the microwave generation. Everything happens instantly. Everything always changes forever at the drop of a dime...until it changes back, and you all react to it violently. About a week ago, Obama was going to be King of Earth for the foreseeable future and his dismantling of Romney at the debate was going to be a fun day for Democrats. One percieved loss of a debate and everythings suddenly gone to shiat. How did Obama go from the cold, calculating mercinary whose campaign was run like a machine to a bumbling oaf who isn't controlling the message? Settle the fark down.

It's truly an amazing thing that we've lost our damn minds as a society so much that the prospect that Sesame Street might one day in the future have commercials is a bigger issue than the administration possibly covering up the rape and murder of a us ambassador.

The ads in the swing states cover those topics quite thoroughly (at least in Florida).

Romney released an ad calling Obama a liar about Romney's tax plan and cited a non-partisan study that proved that Romney's tax plan can work. The source of that "Non-Partisan" study was the American Enterprise Institute.

A few days later, the Obama campaign came out with an ad attacking this one and pointed out that the "non-Partisan" American Enterprise Institute is filled with stooges from the GOP and Bain Capital.

If they keep calling out Romney on his lies like that, Obama might be able to regain some ground that he lost last week to the debate.
